Private Investigator, Cynthia Liles
My name is Cynthia Dykstra Liles. I am a private investigator, and I have specialized in child sex abuse and sex assault cases since approximately 2009. I have been involved in hundreds of cases involving institutions of trust, including public and private schools, Boy Scouts and other youth-serving organizations, and churches such as the Catholic, Mormon, and Assemblies of God churches.
I grew up in the Truth in Montana and quit going to meetings 30 years ago. I am not anti-Truth and never have been. I have many, many dear friends and family in the church.
In 2010, a case came across my desk involving a victim of a former Worker. I discussed with attorneys at the time that there may be no path forward for restitution as there was no formal institution to sue. Late last year, another attorney reached out regarding two victims of a former Worker. Again, we could think of no path forward against an institution, so we began pursuing other avenues against the perpetrator.
As we were working on those cases, I began to learn of more and more alleged perpetrators in the Truth. It was alarming, and I decided to start a confidential spreadsheet to present to the Overseers of each state to bring their attention to what looked like a potentially widespread problem. The two victims I was working with started reaching out to Overseers to discuss the child sex abuse allegations, but do not think their reports were welcome. They felt the overseers refused to accept the information. When the news of Dean Bruer dropped last week, I learned folks were coming forward on social media regarding their own stories of abuse. On March 24, 2023, I decided to set up a hotline (manned by me) so I could keep gathering information to present to the Overseers. Sadly, the hotline has rung night and day ever since.
My entire purpose has been to bring transparency to the potential problem of child sex abuse and sex assault in the Truth, as well as the possible mishandling of such by leadership. If you call the hotline, I will take your statement. I will vet the information and add the perpetrator’s name to the confidential list of alleged perpetrators. Victim names will not be shared with anyone without explicit permission. If your case is within the statute of limitations in the jurisdiction where the abuse occurred, I will assist you in moving forward with criminal charges.

The Mark Huddle issue is well known, but as was said, is not very incriminating. He "stepped back" as was stated, which is clearly appropriate in this situation. He didn't step down though.

Latest update verified. Dear WA, N ID, and AK friends and workers, Many of you would be aware that this week some allegations of inappropriate behavior against Mark Huddle have arisen and of course we are all very saddened to hear of this. However, in the interest of a thorough, appropriate response we very much want to make sure that any and all allegations that come forward are sensitively, fully and properly addressed. As a result of this recent development, Mark has already stepped down from the oversight of the work in WA, N ID and AK so these allegations can be addressed, We feel it is appropriate for Darryl, Wayne and Brian to work together as a team to guide the work there for the time being. If these three brothers need information from previous planning, they will be able to reach out to Mark. They are also welcomed to reach out to any of the surrounding overseers at any time they would consider it advantageous and helpful. We are suggesting this team of brothers guide things there until we are past this initial crisis and it becomes more apparent what should be done in the long term. Darryl is travelling back to Washington as we write, and three of us will be traveling to Washington on Monday to visit with these three brothers and to make any other important visits that may be helpful. The recent events have certainly brought sorrow and concern, but we do know that God has led His people through many tragedies and the kingdom has been strengthened in the end. We hope that all of you will work together with our three brothers as they and we all seek to work together with His leading and grace. As we pass through these difficult times, may we all keep centered on Jesus and not allow ourselves to become centered on any one problem, situation or person. Only with the Lord in the center can any of us do right and find the blessing of God that will more than match any storm that comes our way (Mark 6:36-41). God's great love for the souls of His people, His servants and the world is what gives us complete hope as we pass through this storm. Sincerely in His care and keeping, Dale S, Jim A, Merlin A, Mike H, Rob N, Scott R, Doyle S

Tru dat Verna ! Maybe some sister worker’s have been a victim or trying to help a female victim . But yes that is disgusting and distressing . Victims DON’T REPORT TO WORKERS ANYONE BUT THEM ! Because you may get the same line I got , just let it be it will be sorted out by God

In all fairness, at this point in time that is an unfounded allegation. Someone said that someone told them about this event. Second hand account? MH is doing the appropriate thing, IMO. Yes he is and it may turn out that he did cross a line. No 12 years old should be sitting in a worker’s lap ever. That opens the door for grooming for what is to come. I will not reveal details. But after this broke I am physically feeling like I did at age two. I have personally shared some of the correspondence coming to me via email. The concern and love and care is phenomenal. I am truly grateful and my heart goes out to victims and their families and friends, no one chooses these acts.

Dan , I am not upset with what you have said . I have no problem with you saying that . I was just giving a warning Because that is how it started for me . But no 12 year old should be sitting in a worker’s lap . That is banned in school and many other places .

It certainly is creepy and not something I would permit one second with my daughter and an unrelated man at 10 much less 12.

It certainly is creepy and not something I would permit one second with my daughter and an unrelated man at 10 much less 12. Unfortunately this type of behaviour was encouraged in former times as workers were regarded as aunts and uncles, even more so than trusted blood relatives. In most cases this was an innocent practice but for some it presented temptation and opportunity for those whose weaknesses lay in that direction.

It wasn't a practice in our part of the US, it was more of a west coast thing. Times have changed and it's important to keep up.

It was explained to me that since the workers were brothers and sisters "in Christ", then they were our ants and uncles. I had a younger brother who professed at 10. Shortly after he professed he told a neighbor playmate that he had a sister who was 91. The oldest worker in our area was 91 at the time. The neighbor kid thought he was crazy: "Your mother's only 25," he reminded my brother.

This was a mark of respect where children could refer to 'Uncle Bob' rather than 'Bob' or Mr Williston, or even 'hey you!'

There is so much that we don't know as yet about the Bruer case, and we can only hope and pray that it is much more limited in its scope than has been initially portrayed, but the unknown elements in the case extend suspicions across the ministerial sphere. My understanding is that Bruer is unlikely to have been an isolated individual in all this. Only a detailed investigation, involving the appropriate authorities with their technical capabilities, will be able to determine the scope and also provide clarity and clearance from suspicion for the innocent. I don't know what stage we are at in this, but it will take time. Lots of time. And only time will tell.

sigh...
Dear elders and friends in WA, N ID, AK,
Since Monday we have been gathering information with regard to the allegations against Mark Huddle. During this discovery process, sexual abuse incidents from seven different women have been brought to our attention, three of which involved children under the age of 12. We also visited with Mark in person, with Steve Peirson present. At this time we are not aware of any victims that are currently minors, but we regret to say that five of the seven incidents involved minors when they occurred. All things considered, the allegations against Mark are credible and serious.
The emotional and spiritual harm upon these victims has had a lasting negative effect. Although some people may think these actions (i.e. sexual touching through clothing) were not serious, the reality is that they have a very harmful effect upon young children and are considered by law to be a grave crime.
After gathering information about the allegations and communicating with all accessible, affected individuals, we consulted with CSA (Child Sexual Abuse) professionals for their advice. We brothers agree with their conclusion that Mark should not continue in the work. Mark has readily agreed to receive therapeutic help.
Let’s support all victims by respectfully listening without blaming. We fully intend to support the needs of the victims in every way we can and encourage others to feel free to come forward and report concerns. As all of the victims mentioned above are now adults, we respect their wishes regarding whether or not to report these incidents to authorities. Protecting the privacy and confidentiality of victims is of utmost importance.
We will be communicating more about these and other situations which pose safety risks to the community. We are learning from these experiences and are committed to increased safety. In the near future we will send communication regarding specific CSA issues, mandated reporter training and other necessary changes going forward.
We all grieve with the reality of this troubling situation, yet we know that God is still on the throne and we find solace in Psalm 61:2, “When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” We very much feel the hand of God working in recent events, leading us to be forthright about these issues, in the same way the apostle Paul did in 1Corinthians 5. God will help all who look to Him and His Son to go forward spiritually stronger and healthier.
Your brothers, Dale Shultz, Merlin Affleck, Rob Newman, Scott Rauscher, Doyle Smith, Darryl Doland
Not sure this is being exactly handled right again...
damn it...

This was Aaron Farough’s excuse …………… Crown counsel Mark Crisp said Farough was in a position of authority as a minister. He quoted Farough previously saying, “If I didn’t have access to this phone, I wouldn’t have accessed child porn. If I hadn’t been in such private settings, I wouldn’t have distributed child porn.”
Defence attorney Owen James said Farough, who now lives in Lethbridge, informed his church of his wrongdoings when the allegations came forward. He was removed from the ministry but not from the fellowship. He has since had 19 sessions with a psychologist in Alberta that focused on his sexual issues. A psychiatric assessment suggests the celibate ministry contributed to his sexual issues, and Farough acknowledged that his online activities did not align with his values, but he could not stop when he was bored. He accessed child pornography because he was “curious,” he stated 🤢 blame it on the PHONES & Laptops . Oh wait maybe Dean got that same phone . Yes I am being a b-otch and sarcastic

Oh look another worker in Alaska up there with Dean & Mark ! October 3, 1989 Our dear Alaska Friends, We know that you would be somewhat bewildered over the change in Robert Ingram's status, and why such action was necessary. A few years ago, three of the young sisters who now labor in the Orient, mentioned that Robert had taken too many liberties with them, and they were crushed as a result. When they confronted Robert with this, he apologized, and said it would never happen again, because he had prayed like Jacob prayed that night, and kept on praying until God took away all desire from him, so that he would have no trouble from now on.

Our dear Alaska Friends, Truitt and Bob Ingram We know that you would be somewhat bewildered over the change in Robert Ingram's status, and why such action was necessary.
When Sydney Holt and Jack Price were at the Olympia convention this year, a number of the young sister workers came to them. A rumor had been passed around that Robert would be having responsibility over Washington. They were quite distressed over it. One of them said, "If Robert has responsibility over the State, I will either have to give up the work or go to another State, as I couldn't work under him." Several of them went into details to explain to Sydney and Jack just what they had previously been subjected to themselves, and of the embarrassment and heartache that had been caused.
We were also disappointed to hear that there is a division in the ministry caused by a few of the Alaska workers bringing into Washington the influence of the doctrine that Truitt has been teaching in Alaska. This type of division has previously been evident in other areas where Truitt has laboured. We had a long visit with Truitt in hope that he would see the damage that had been done. It has been decided that Truitt would go to Alberta with Willis Propp in hope that he could help him see where his doctrine has been in error.
The purpose of the meeting in Seattle was to see if something could be done to salvage the situation. We all felt that the only solution would be to bring in a new overseer for Alaska. One that everyone would have confidence in and would be inspired by His care. We hate to see situations like this arise in a kingdom as wonderful as the Kingdom of God, but there were problems in Bible days, and the Lord's people rose above it, and we have every reason to believe they will overcome this, and go on to enjoy a true hearty fellowship with God and with each other. I am sure if any of you wanted more details, either Sydney or Jack would be able to furnish them for you. Our prayers are with you and we wish the best for the future of Alaska.
Your brothers in Christ,
