Basically it's because they think they are "God's people". Its in Merlins opening statement. I haven't read all of it yet but Merlin is a person with a lot of power that is appropriateling some very ancient scripture for his own specific systems rituals and traditions. He is not aware of how dangerous he is. As long as the Merlin's of the system think they're special people it will be very hard for them to make any meaningful change because they are God's people right!... He knows he is dangerous and he wields that power He should not be an overseer or even a worker with his actions . Perhaps he might get a better idea , if he heard exactly what happens and what is done during CSA OR SA . But I highly doubt that . The farther they fall…………… but he has his own actions to respond too . The male worker’s were a little confused when I didn’t allow them to take my mom’s funeral service . 2 of them thought 4 sure it would be them no not when I am in charge of those decisions . I went with my mom’s wishes . She knew I would contact her fav female worker’s . They came immediately during the last days . I knew what her heart desired . If he doesn't relinquish his power easily that tells you all you need to know.... |

Curly might correct me if I am wrong, but the word (direct) from one of the victims of the "fat slob" was that his defense managed to persuade the justice system to only implement home detention, so his "meeting in the home" could be preserved, and he could attend. And it all only came to light when one of the victims made it known that she would not attend the meeting in his home, and gave the reason why. He should have done jail time, based on what she says. To me, this was a blight on the those who sprang to his defense. All the crocodile tears shed at his convention testimonies in the years prior have a very hollow ring, as do the loud amens, by those who thought he "had it" and was a paragon of virtue. I won't quote the whole post, but I'd like to thank you for posting that. A lot to take in that's for sure. Some of it made me happy, and other parts made me sick. It's obvious to me that brother workers aren't going to give any power to the sister workers anytime soon. They are only their to ask advice, do the 'nurturing', but the final decision will still be made by a man. However, that's religion for you. Especially when it's patriarchal. Not much more you can expect from the Christian mindset about gender roles. I hope that they do communicate with everyone. It's obvious that they are reluctant to share with everyone and would rather keep certain things just with the elders and 'trust them to know their people'. But that's just another way of not being open because it shouldn't be up to anyone what information to share and with whom when it comes to CSA. Why? Because no one can know who really needs to know. There may be someone they decide not to tell and they are the exact person that needs to know that this is happening to others not just them and give them the courage to speak out. |

Well, I personally feel validated, not triggered. Every time I post something quoting a historical worker, I get gaslit and mocked and told that nobody in the Truth believes that any more. This overseer quotes Jack Carrol more than scripture! How long has Jack been dead for? And OMG...these people come to a supposedly serious meeting about protecting women and children from abuse and end up talking about whether it is a sin to play sports on Sunday and the acceptability of Christmas treed and Easter eggs. Sounded just like the friends sitting at the feet of St. Eldon Tennis wood 40 years ago. That's what I found to be some of it that was sickening. I wasn't allowed to play competitive sports and I had to play without my parents knowing and that meant only in town games. I couldn't go out of town because then I would have to have parental permission and I couldn't get that. I have no idea what is so desperately wrong with kids in sports. It keeps them out of trouble, healthier and in better shape. The pros far outnumber the cons imo. And to still be worried about wearing pants!! Another part was when Merlin stated that women shouldn't dress to tempt men that were trying to 'die' to that sin. I was glad that one of the women in the group pointed out that the onus shouldn't be on the women, and men should learn how to control themselves. Another part which triggered me more than the appearances talk and sports talk, was how they referred to what Walter (?) did as not considered to be high on the 'crime' scale when it was a child that he abused. That really upset me. And he was not charged. Also, Harry Price was mentioned in this. Is he still alive? He was old when I was young. |

This unlocked Dean Bruer thread on the main TMB board is an important one. Inevitably, on TMB we have individuals and groups who strongly disagree about all manner of issues (especially how CSA/SA is all being dealt with) and are now fighting and arguing with each other.
These battles are important.
But they're not for this main (open) board.
To avoid the admin staff simply having to delete offending posts, we will transfer them to the closed (member-only) 'Jump On Board'. But sometimes if it's too hard or time-consuming, some posts in this category may simply be removed. This is to ensure TMB stays compliant with Proboards rules.

That is exactly what struck me. It starts out with CSA/SA and quickly moves to the weightier matters of pants, alcohol and pool tables. SO grateful that this is no longer my world. Life is way too short. I would suggest that the "friends' were probably maximising an opportunity to vent in a situation where they felt they could, something that had been denied them. But yes, it was strange how it overtook the weightier matter. Did I miss something, or was there no discussion about restitution, counseling or victim support?
I couldn't figure out if Jack Carroll being referred to was the long passed one, or another worker of the same name.
That was my problem too. Jack Price was in charge in Canada for a long time, so maybe they were referring to him? |

We are missing some context. Who set up the meeting? Who is Shaun? From what I’ve heard, the friends arranged the meeting and invited the workers. Obviously they are quite upset, considering Shaun apologized for their “harsh” letter. I can see where people have made comments in respect to the notes discussing the seriousness of CSA/SA to topics that seem more trivial, like pants. Which is totally a fair assessment. But I think folks on these boards and FB are missing context. In my experience this Dean Bruer thing is causing people to examine everything they’ve ever known. Maybe they could’ve had a separate meeting to bring that stuff up. Or maybe they could ask the trivial questions that they already know the answers too right then and there, while they had someone recording notes. For all we know these people have been called out for these trivial things they were asking about. Maybe this was an opportunity to say why do you care about women wearing pants, or people playing sports - but we’ve got pedos hanging around our kids at convention?! Whoever the fellow is with the pool table and car washing… this was probably a meeting he needed more than anyone. I hope he learnt something more than worker worship. Good point, thank you for that perspective. |

Punching him in the face at the gathering after my grandpa passed was the start of OUR FIGHT ! I am 💯 % certain he got his rocks off when he excommunicated me at 13 years and the offending 19 years old didn’t get sidelined . However my dad went looking for that 19 years old young man . I have said it before my dad loaded his gun and went looking for him . . Payback is a b-otch ! |

I'm not sure he ever said anything quotable, other than the first sermon he preached at Portage convention after he became overseer in MB. Sadly, he never did live up to that sermon! Still, back in the 1980's, he stood up for a young woman who ended up in abusive relationship in another country. That was not necessarily an easy thing for him to do, but he did it. He was ahead of his time in the handling of that situation, and relied heavily on the young sister workers for counsel. For that, he has my respect. |

If I had a tournament or competition on a Sunday or Wednesday one of my parents would be there . They encouraged my activities in sports because I would finally wear my ADHD OUT ! I remember being on the field at 6 AM for practice . All my resources were sports . They encouraged me . In grade 9 we had to go to the high school we would attend in grade 10 . To my surprise the coaches were vetting us . Proud to say I was at the top of their list . I went back to both schools at times in my life only to see my name still up there . Mom skipped special meetings on year because I had a gymnastics competition . Which I won 3rd place for Alberta . But heck yeah my mom was there . They had found the key to keeping me from beating myself up , instead I wanted to be the best at all sports I played . My parents just knew that was my outlet . One of them always attended no matter which day . It probably was one of the best times of my life . |
