It doesn't matter which of the meanings Wally wants for the term, they're all derogatory terms invented to be used about the anything non-MAGA-approved. Wally did not give the terms, lefties did though...

If you really believe in human rights, there isn't dilution. If you believe that certain gender identities or sexual orientations deserve execution followed by eternal torture, well I can see that. And the anti-racists will 100% pass up on that advocate for character issues. So all of the charitable causes and movements on the planet should merge into one great big "human rights" movement? Would that be a bad thing though? We are all here together. When we have all these special groups we are actually doing the exact thing we are trying to eliminate. We label people by their 'groups'. Indigenous, gay, Asian, Jew, etc. Instead we should be focusing on treating all humans with respect. Instead we are still creating barriers with our labels. I know that we may not be there yet and we may still need these labels in order to address inequality. But I'm hoping there comes a day when all labels are gone and it's just us all making sure that everyone has equal opportunity to succeed. Everyone is not equal. They can't be treated as 'equal'. But they should all have equal opportunity to succeed. For some that means more help in order to have equal opportunity to succeed. I would like to see us evolve to the place where we don't begrudge more help for those who need it.

Woke is just a movement promoted by a minority of misguided activist who are intent on imposing their agenda on the majority. If you insist on remaining unwoke, odds are you still have some morals and prefer to adhere to old fashion values.
Most of the stuff that those who are 'unwoke' don't want are things that actually are supposed to help people. The 'woke' usually want to make like better for everyone not just certain groups. Are you opposed to that? Sometimes changes that help the many are things that change things for those who are used to having an advantage. Then when that advantage is challenged even a little, they complain not thinking about the fact that all the advantages they had were not there at all or minimally for the groups that are now being included. The terms Racism/Racist doesn't include minorities according to the "experts", the original meaning of woke wasn't about protecting white folk either. So no, it wasn't about everyone. Telling someone that they are racist because their white, is not helping anyone and is the epitome of the very thing that everyone is not supposed to do. Making everyone feel guilty now about something 53 to 160 years ago isn't justice. Nor is making people now, pay for what happen then to those that never were there or experienced it nor for people who actually never did that to anyone. To include quite a few too that were never involved in it or even had ancestors here then.

I don’t really want to get into it, mainly because I don’t have the time to get involved in too many threads in this site. I prefer the more religious threads. But, I’ll briefly answer: in the extreme Left city I work in; and with working for a large corporation that is Woke; someone like me cannot develop friendships with other employees….at least not true friendships, because you can’t honestly be yourself. You have to watch what you say. If you say the wrong thing you’ll be reported ;anonymously) to either the supervisor or HR. It happened to me once. They wouldn’t tell me who complained, when the incident happened or what I said. It was ridiculous. All I know is that it had to do with personal pronouns against one person who I hadn’t seen in months & who works for the corporation in another city. I’ve learned to just go to work & only associate with the one other 2x2 in the company. I’m polite, helpful, say good morning good bye but don’t confide anything with anyone & I keep conversation impersonal. I could go on but honestly don’t have the time or ambition to do so. The subject (Woke) is honestly ridiculous to me, & I’ll leave it at that. That must have been hard rudyw. Interestingly I got raked over the coals in a meeting recently for spouting what you would call “woke” views. Society is pretty sensitized at this point, on both sides. We’re all finding our way. All worthwhile transitions take time and a lot of figuring out what works and what doesn't. When groups have had extreme prejudice and they now want recognition for that they tend to go the other direction of extreme. That's normal and is understandable. But if we keep on recognizing where we want to go eventually the pendulum swings more to the center and the extremes are no longer there. Unfortunately it's not something that happens overnight and a lot of chaos is there until it finally becomes the norm. We humans resist change, even if it's for the better.

Making people feel guilty is not helpful, but knowing history is necessary so we don't continue to make mistakes. So I disagree with what DeSantis is trying to do, not teaching Black history. What do you suggest we do to address the fact that these groups still have an uphill battle to be seen like every white person out there? We know there are many who still see these groups as 'less than' and it spills into everyday consequences for them. How do you propose to go about reducing the prejudice so that they have equal opportunity to succeed?

No, I didn't say that should necessarily happen. But I'm not surprised to see groups with related causes and experiences to ally and help each other. For example, the Christian aligned police that are killing black people are assuredly targeting the LGBTQ community as well. A really good example of this being exposed was Pastor/Deputy Grayson Fritts being caught on tape preaching.

That's unfortunate because a lot of these minority groups face the same range of issues.

Yeah, neither you or I know exactly what this "black History" course is teaching to make all that informed of a decision. Slapping "black history" on anything doesn't make it black history or history. CRT and the 1619 project taught us that. Thats not history, its laced with propaganda. From the little I have gathered this is about or includes CRT and I would applaud anyone who rejected that. One site says the Florida education dept. reports historical inaccuracy and lack of educational value which would violate Florida Law. If things are changed, they are open to re-evaluating it. So it's not an outright ban. The site also mentions that this is a multi-year AP project that needs input, so in effect they have put something out there that may have indeed been inaccurate or pointless, quite similar to Ole Nancy's We have to vote for it to know what is in it method. Doing that means damage gets done, but they "promise to clean it up" later. Uphill battle? it's been 160 years. How much more "seen" do we need to get when a Black President was elected and then re-elected(even if he did little to help anyone)? So, the "less than's" don't think much of the "more than's" either. Th excuses are getting old... If after a 160 years there is still prejudice, it's not gonna go away ever. And the effort to control everyone and everyone's thought's will wreck things even further. The cure is worse than the curse as they say. You want to see some bad racism and prejudice? Travel the world a bit. America is nothing like most of the world on this. It's way better. Equal opportunity? No, people want Equal outcomes now. And after equal outcomes doesn't work who knows what will be tried...

Well my thoughts are if you can have history about just about any other group being taught and not black history then I have to ask why. Like you, I don't know what they done to revise that black history, and hopefully it's actually true history. The truth of black history isn't pretty. Even today the history that is ongoing isn't pretty. But just because it's not pretty doesn't mean it's not important so things can change even more. I still think that equal opportunity is the right way to go. Sometimes that means more help for the groups that are farther behind in that way. When we still have powerful white nationalists out there making that harder, we know that more needs to be done. Not an easy balance to strike. That's why I would like it to be more about 'all' who need a bit of help, to become more able to have equal opportunity.

Having been a social studies teacher myself, my philosophy was that the subject matter should allow every student to get a full understanding of their own standing in our society, and develop their sense of worth and ability to exercise their rights in the greater society, regardless of their background or ethnicity. I was quite pleased when a judge complimented one of my special education students on his understanding of how to conduct and defend himself in court. He mother told me that he told the judge: "I learned that in my government class." Ironically, a few of my student-fans were avid militia and white supremacist family members. It was a very fun job.

The workers always discouraged friendships with worldlings. Honestly, I’ve never had the intention of befriending most co-workers. I have nothing in common with the majority of them. It’s just a shame that Corporate allows them to express/display their viewpoints & silences anyone who espouses any viewpoint other than Woke. And in actuality it’s Jesus who tells us to not be friends with the world. The Workers just remind us of his commands.

I’m quite satisfied with life (in general). I’m just learning to not be so naive with people, especially when they have an agenda. It’s best to be polite & cooperative with work tasks, but also to not be an open book with people, because many won’t like how the book reads.

Supervisors are always included in emails& are present at all meetings. So, my offense had to have been relayed to the offended person by gossip.

Well, I went to my supervisor a week after & told them I thought the whole thing was unfair, simply because I couldn’t defend myself, not being told what i said, etc. I told them that if & when they call me in I had to know what I said, when I said it etc., or I wouldn’t put unwitnessed it. It was then (only after I actually defended myself) that I was told ‘An injustice had been done’, & they traced it down to a third person who repeated something I’d said which had been taken out of context. I doubt they would have told me any of this if I hadn’t gone back in to discuss it with them. I’m really not avoiding anyone. I truly don’t feel it would be wise to confide too much with anyone at work though. I see them throwing each other under the bus all of the time. I hear them gossiping about one another often. If they’re doing this among so-called friends, can you imagine what they say about me? Like I said, I don’t really dislike too many people (maybe one or two at work!) But, there’s no reason for me to chum up to anyone here. What am I going to do? Go to the bars with them after work? Go to a movie night with them? Play video games with them? I’d rather do my job, then go home to my family.

I’d rather do my job, then go home to my family. You are so much like me, Rudy. I mind my own business and expect you to mind yours. If I’m accused of something, I do my best to back it up to the source. Otherwise keep your mouth shut. I didn’t hang out with anybody I work with even when I was single. I’m lucky enough to work alone these days. I have the whole office to myself. I do stop in and visit with the secretary from time to time to catch up on what goes on in the borough where I work. I only work 4 to 5 hours a week.

Like I said, I don’t really dislike too many people (maybe one or two at work!) It’s important to be friendly; but being friendly & being friends are two different things. It’s funny; there are people I work with whoI like them (even people who are morally the polar opposite of me). But, it’s a simple fact that if I were to quit tomorrow, I’d probably never hear from them again (or they from me). So, why worry about befriending people I work with? On the other hand, there are friends from years ago, who I go months or years without seeing or speaking with, and when we finally do meet up again, or call out of the blue, it’s as if it was just yesterday that we last spoke. The difference between coworkers (not all coworkers, but those we don’t relate to) & old friends we don’t speak to regularly is this: common values & a common worldview. I’ve noticed that some on this board think I’m self-righteous for this way of thinking. But, this sort of behavior is NOT just done by friends (2x2s). At my work, the Woke crowd regularly go out after work, have ‘movie night,’ smoke dope together (and other things), throw Halloween parties, etc. & never invite people of other persuasions; not just me & the other 2x2 in our company, but anyone else who professes faith in Christ. I’ve invited some of the Woke to my house for Thanksgiving (because they have no family locally & would be alone) or simply for dinner, & they have never once taken me up on the offer. So, this talk that 2x2s are reclusive & self-righteous & exclusive is BS as far as I’m concerned. The Woke are just as exclusive when it comes to socializing. To each his own. Be friendly, but don’t think it’s necessary to be everyone’s friend.
