The true gospel as preached and taught by Jesus, John the Baptist and their disciples, etc, contained two key elements, in this order: 1) A dire warning about the coming wrath of God that all mankind faces, and 2) A means to escape that wrath. All things follow on from there, even the two additional commandments of Jesus, to love God and to love one another, upon which all things are draped. They are part of item 2. What is the wrath of God?. How do you love God?.

How do you love God?. I can't give you the Hebraic understanding, but my Bible tells me that you know you love God when you do his will!

No, I don't think I am in a cult. AFter 48 years, I would definitely know if I was in a cult-I have never felt like I was in one.

What is the wrath of God?. How do you love God?. The wrath of God is a meaningless threat used by believers in God to warn you of the dire consequences of failing to obey God’s will. God’s will is that which the believers in God have decided it is based on their interpretation of the bible. Curiously the will of God and the will of the believer in God always seem to correlate. God’s will is extremely flexible in much the same way as God’s mind is. The flexibility of God’s mind is legendary being able to incorporate two distinctly opposing positions on a wide range of issues such as the appropriateness of drinking alcohol, having a television in your home or engaging in rompy pompy with someone of the same sex. You love God by adhering to the will of God which really means adhering to the will of those who believe in him and are prone to warning you of the wrath of God that is coming your way if you don’t. Loving God is part of a deal where humanity gives its love to God at his request and in exchange God ignores the plight of the sick, does nothing to prevent the abuse of the innocent, refuses to ease the suffering of the suffering and condemns most of humanity to eternal burning. There’s an old Arab proverb which says he who proposes the deal knows who comes out best from it. This is not a good deal. The great thing about abandoning belief in God and other Hebraic misunderstandings is that you no longer have to heed the dire warnings of the wrath of God which are flung at you. Consequently you no longer need a means to escape that wrath. It’s a bit like getting rid of your motorcycle after which you can safely ignore the guy trying to sell you a motorcycle insurance policy irrespective of his level of insistence. Matt10

If your god truly leads, your heart and mind know what's right and what's wrong. It's called acting out of love.

Matt10 That is your atheist's opinion about the Wrath of God... Here are what God the Bible about the Wrath of God and Christ to come upon the earth and unbelievers.
Revelation 6:12-17 I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood. And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place. And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, and said to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?"Joel 2:1-2 Blow the trumpet in Zion, And sound an alarm in My holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble; For the day of the LORD is coming, For it is at hand: A day of darkness and gloominess, A day of clouds and thick darkness, Like the morning clouds spread over the mountains. A people come, great and strong, The like of whom has never been; Nor will there ever be any such after them, Even for many successive generations. Matthew 24:29-30 'Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. Nahum 1:3 The LORD is slow to anger and great in power, And will not at all acquit the wicked. The LORD has His way In the whirlwind and in the storm, And the clouds are the dust of His feet. Zephaniah 1:14 The great day of the LORD is near; It is near and hastens quickly. The noise of the day of the LORD is bitter; There the mighty men shall cry out. Zephaniah 2:1-3 Gather yourselves together, yes, gather together, O undesirable nation, Before the decree is issued, Or the day passes like chaff, Before the LORD's fierce anger comes upon you, Before the day of the LORD's anger comes upon you! Seek the LORD, all you meek of the earth, Who have upheld His justice. Seek righteousness, seek humility. It may be that you will be hidden In the day of the LORD's anger. Haggai 2:6-7 “For thus says the LORD of hosts: ‘Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land; and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory," says the LORD of hosts. Malachi 3:2 'But who can endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner's fire And like launderers' soap.

That label is "Dry Canal" The meaning of which is you think you are full of the living waters but you are actual a dry canal. The great church father Tertullian was also called that after he started believing the lord was coming back soon after reading John.

Cult has become an inflammatory word in my opinion. I’m still thinking this through and an answer is a long time coming. This is what I often think- life is difficult - we all need our supports - some more than others. 2x2ism was too confining for me but for some people it is community- which I , I in fact, envy. The problem I have is when the control becomes abusive and this is a difficult line to define - but easily crossed when there is deception and secrecy. I came across this piece recently which I thought said it well. "Some days are like this, you wake with an ache in your chest that isn't even yours. You know that somewhere, great rivers of blood are being shed. Somewhere, mothers are weeping over children, bodies strewn like wildflowers. Somewhere, men and women eat a bowl of pain — A man tells his wife that he is leaving, A woman wakes in an empty bed or puts her hand to an empty place where a breast was. Somewhere, in the screeching of brakes there is a shattering, of glass, of lives. This earth is covered in a sea of suffering. If for a few moments we manage to forget do not begrudge us our wine, our prayer, our reaching out for a word, a touch, even from a stranger." (regina Sarah Ryan)

Does sound much like some here who believe the "lord is coming back soon.." It seems to me to be a bit of hubris to think that they are so much more important than past or future generartion

Because you are trying to compare children with adults.

Cults often use behavior modification on followers, such as thought stopping techniques and instilling an "us-versus-them" mindset.
The group or movement is held together by a shared commitment to a charismatic leader or ideology. It has a belief system that has the answers to all of life's questions and offers a special solution to be gained only by following the rules.

But I know the wine I make is deceitfully sweet and innocent and then it suddenly hits me with a whallop!
But then, I think I must a light weight because I need to cut most of my medicene tablets in half.
