No, just a practical businessman... And business waits for no man (or woman).
She annoyed everyone because they were all working double time to cover for her sorry lazy a$$, they've even called her and begged her to return to work. When I told them yesterday that I fired her, their response was, "Good, she was a worthless piece of crap". No one liked an irresponsible employee who became a burden on everyone she worked with.
When I text her that I hired someone to replace her and requested that she turn in her key, her responding text was, " Please don't fire me". My reply was, " You no longer work for me, your new boss is that Chicago Leprecon who's implemented Gestapo tactics to destroy small businesses across the state, so go brown nose that little socialist"... I suspect I ruined cocktail hour for her on Daytona Beach? Charming!
More like Vindictive ... The other shoe dropped, now all the stress and anxiety is on her back, or at least it will be when all the free government handouts come to a screeching halt. But I'm sure she'll find another job, and maybe she will have learned from this experience and be a better employee for someone else...

You're a real tough guy, huh? No, just a practical businessman... And business waits for no man (or woman).
I was wondering why "her fellow workers have been begging (you) to fire her" since she wasn't even there to annoy them in any way.
Then I realized that no doubt your "staff" are so sick & tired of hearing you belly-aching about her all day long and they were hoping that you would just shut the hell up if you just got it out of your system.
She annoyed everyone because they were all working double time to cover for her sorry lazy a$$, they've even called her and begged her to return to work. I suspect I ruined cocktail hour for her on Daytona Beach? After to listening to your rants, I don't believe even half of what you say!
I would bet that instead she probably jumped up & down with glee and said, "Thank god I don't have to go back & work for that …….!"
I know I would have!

State state state state state .... The State is ruining the state right now. Actually, -I agree Lee. It is true because a part of the State, -the executive branch of the State, -the leader in the White House, -did not do the job of the Presidency which the Preamble to the United States Constitution states is part of the duty of such a leader, to "promote the general welfare" of the people.
Instead Trump reneged on his duties as Head of State and caused each state within the State to go it alone, putting each state in competition with one another
Preamble:
“We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”.Yes, Trump neglected to promote the general welfare of the people. He is quick to take the credit for anything good that happens and quick to blame others when anything bad happens.

Well, its all true whether you believe it or not.. We are a close knit group with a family like work environment, so her total disregard and abandonment was disappointing to all of us who worked with her. It was totally unlike her because she had always been reliable and dedicated, but I personally think her husband who hits the sauce regularly influenced her irresponsible behavior. I had told her 10 days ago that I would be forced to replace her if she didn't return to work and she didn't even respond, so it shouldn't have come as any big surprise when I ultimately canned her.
And no offense, but I highly doubt you could have ever of worked for me because I rely on dependable people who work hard. I'm relatively certain that's a type of work environment you could not have handled very well, even when you were younger. You also can't seem to comprehend that business doesn't wait for people to work when they feel like it? I'm guessing you've only worked for big institutions and have never worked for a small service oriented business where its a necessity to hustle and compete for customers everyday. So your naïveté is understandable.
With my "help wanted" ads, I also listed a couple "Business 4-sale" ads and have a very interested potential Buyer. So all of this may come to an ultimate fruition shortly? I suspect that you'll be thrilled to know that I'll be in the same boat as the gal I fired (unemployed) . And better yet, if the sale goes through, ya'll won't need to hear anymore of my complaining . I'll find something else to gripe about

You say "no offence," -but it is an offense for you to assume that I could not work for you because I wouldn't be "dependable or work hard." You really have no idea what is my capacity for work nor where I have worked and under what circumstances.
I was a nurse all of my working years. I have worked every shift in nearly every department in my job.
I have worked in large and small hospitals, some well known and others not so much.
I worked in the oldest hospital in the US, Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia; Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, -you know, the one we keep hearing about in the news concerning the Coronavirus.'
I have worked in the University of Illinois Research Hospital in Chicago. There were many smaller hospitals, -a small Catholic hospital, -my own nursing school where I was in training, -at least 6-7 different hospitals.
So cut the crap about naïveté.
You "assume" a lot when you think that I "could not have handled the work environment very well." Don't talk to me about "dependable" and "work hard."
I know very well the stress that medical workers are going through with this virus right now.

You had previously wrote that you could not work for me and I was agreeing. You don't understand small business, everyone I hire is essential and needed to show-up everyday. The woman I fired disappeared for 8 weeks and you think I was mean for letting her go? That's what I meant by you not comprehending how a small service oriented business functions. If you were a waitress and serviced 20 tables a night, and a co-worker didn't show-up, so you had to wait on 40 tables every night, then you might begin to understand what its like to do all your work and someone else's too? And keep in mind that I didn't cover for this worker for one night, but for 8 weeks! Few bosses would give an employee that much time to return to work, so while you believe it was mean for me not to go another 2 months without help, I believe I was more than patient. There comes a point when enough is enough.
Imagine as a nurse, if another nurse didn't show-up for duty and you had to hustle to do all your work and hers too... Tell me that after working 16 hours shifts for 2 months and covering for her that you wouldn't be relieved when they finally replaced her with a more reliable nurse?

Yes, I thought so.. There's comes a point when its a necessary to throw a few tables over in the temple (workplace) to emphasize a point. Patience goes a long way, but its futile when no change is in the cards. I waited and waited, but she didn't want the ice cream so she got the boot.

Wrongful Termination for Public Policy ReasonsAn employer cannot fire an employee for certain public policy reasons, such as refusing to commit an illegal act. That means if you're subject to a shelter-in-place order and cannot come to work, your employer can't fire you without risking a lawsuit. Most states that have issued stay at home orders distinguish between "essential" and "non-essential" work. If you believe your employer is wrongfully requesting you to come to work, your state COVID-19 webpage is a good place to start. New Jersey, for example, lists which businesses must close and which can remain open.

Something finally dawned on me that made me be more aware that quarantine orders are really not all that new. Otherwise Shakespear's Tragedy Romeo & Juliet, would not have had to end as it did.
Juliet's plan had been to fake her own death so that she wouldn't have to marry Paris. But Romeo wasn't aware of her plan.
Upon seeing Juliet "dead," he kills himself. Then Juliet awakens and sees Romeo had killed himself and she kills herself.
Does anyone remember why Romeo wasn't aware of her plan?

Well, I can't help what you choose to believe, if you don't think I was working long hours, that's fine. Business was down through most of April, but exploded the first of May
My assessment of the 2 employees was correct, I know them and you don't, so your argument that they were ambitious employees is based on zip. They've both been fired now, I replaced 2 people who wouldn't work with two that would, and its made a remarkable improvement.
No, just a practical businessman... And business waits for no man (or woman). A practical businessman would run a practical business waiting for man (or woman); they are the customer. If you're not waiting for the customer, what is the point of being in business? Is that being a practical businessman?
I think you misunderstood, I'm waiting on all our customers. It was a couple of my employees who refused to work. So what was practical was getting rid of the dead weight and replacing them with people who are now taking care of my customers.

I obviously don't see it as "bad behavior"... And I sign my employees paychecks, not the governor, so it was their choice. I'll admit that I seldom agree with government, especially when they're doing everything they can to put me out of business and destroy everything I've spent my entire life working for. My entrepreneurial spirit wasn't about to sit idly by and watch that happen, so I fought the law and I won. I also resent the state implying that what I do is nonessential, and I never agreed with a total shut-down from the onset, my right to work and survive surpassed dictatorial oppression.

The employee/employer relationship needs to be mutually beneficial as does the customer/business relationship.
Gotta agree with that of course. What's beneficial to each party occurs after services are rendered, but in the absence of that exchange, there's nothing mutually beneficial to either.

Many of these people on TMB do NOT understand what you and I are going through, Dan. Things are getting better for me and with my business. I got SBA loan and Payroll Protection. Thanks, God or I am roasted duck by now.

I won't lose anything that I don't want to sell, and I'll get a pretty penny for it. You claimed to be taking vengeance, and used Jesus in the temple as an example. So this employee you fired was defiling your little temple of a company. You apparently lost nothing but your pride, so you trash her. But I expect you're old enough not to tramp you feet over the whole embarrassment.
