Our Dear Philippine Worker Staff, June 2018
We feel it important to inform the whole staff regarding the use of Social Media on the Internet.
Some of our fellow workers and brethren locally and from abroad have expressed their concern. This input has come from them over a period of time. Several times it has been very clearly requested in our local workers staff meetings that all on our staff would cease using Facebook and close their accounts immediately on this social media. We want to be in unity with our brethren around the world in our stand on matters such as this.
Now, we have been discussing this again and we feel we need to also express this message to our friends in each field here in the Philippines. We would like to ask each pair of workers in your field to kindly request that our friends discontinue usage of any kind of social media. This would include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, the Web sites True Friends, Filipino Friends, etc.. We are asking that from now on, each would limit their communication to e-mail for personal contact among friends when sending messages, pictures, etc. No longer posting their messages on social media Web sites which is sent all over the world, reaching our brethren in other nations.
We feel this will help our fellowship to be focused again on the simple truths of maintaining our relationship with God through prayer, reading the scripture, meditating, attending gospel meetings and fellowship meetings. We thank each of you in advance for your efforts to express this message to our friends in each field.
Your Brothers and Fellow Laborers in Christ,
Jim Girton, John Mastin, Bill Walker, Renante Fermin

Pity!!!. Oh how we like to keep the flock under control, they may get smarter than us. Not a good concept, not practised by main stream Churches.

Gotta start shutting it down somewhere and why not start with the more ‘agreeable’ ones first. Can’t have them seeing what the Westerners get up to can we! Best try and keep them in the controlled bubble. This WWW must be a real pain in the you know where for workers. It allows people to communicate worldwide. I guess if you were honest and truly followed Jesus then that kind of control wouldn’t be necessary... I mean, you could trust people to have an independent relationship with God if you were actually following His teachings...(as opposed to making up your own rules!)
No mention of TMB?

It is my understanding that the Filippino Friends group was created and administered by a man from the Philippines. Just yesterday it was announced that they were going to shut it down.
At the same time, a new group called True Friends - Globally, was introduced, and the admin making the announcement, Rey, encouraged the rest of the friends (those not in the Philippines?) to join that group if they wanted to.

Godsgrace, as you have said the WWW has become a PITA for the Workers. However they have brought it upon themselves, they were very quick to accept it many years ago. So convenient to communicate, transfer money, etc. This is why they did not ban it then, the way they banned TV. I think it is hilarious, it has come back to bite them on the bum. When will they ever learn!!!.

Will they be shutting fellowship meetings too? Social media is a form of fellowship. Unbelievable how insulated they want members to be.
What are they afraid of? The Truth coming out? Don't they trust that people can make their own choices and think for themselves? I remember the days when they preached about the evil internet. I've only heard of one sermon on the evils of childhood sexual abuse though.
Seems as if something is brewing in the Philippines. Cutting communication is the mark of a cult and control. A fellow labourer seems highly questionable.

Don't the Workers understand that their function is only to give spiritual guidance, and not interfere in the day to day activities of laity. That is how you get a happy, peaceful, harmonious congregation.

You are right Wally, spiritual matters are the realm of Workers. But stay away from material matters, leave that to people's common sense. After all if the spiritual teachings are correct, material things will take care of itself.

Someone needs to just tell those workers to go and get stuffed. It's none of their business. Withhold financial contributions until they rescind and apologise.

IMO, this new ruling is rather like closing the gate after the horse has already gone through it...

Someone needs to just tell those workers to go and get stuffed. It's none of their business. Withhold financial contributions until they rescind and apologise. And that is the reply satan would dearly love. Nope - that's introducing a false argument.
The workers have gone so far as to putting in writing an edict that is wrong, is not theirs to do. This is like the 1960's where they tried to ban "the wireless". They haven't just suggested that maybe limiting FB's usage, or avoiding it's pitfalls; no they are banning the Friends from being on it, telling them to shut down their accounts. This behaviour only has the affect of driving people away. Maybe, that's what Satan would love!
So what is the alternative, accept it and allow Phariseeism to grow?
Like the old days of Nathan MacCarthy and Men's walk-shorts ban, trying to discuss it will only get one labelled as an iconoclast, or heretic. I refused to accept this idiotic ruling of his, and discussed it with John Brasted at the time. In his words, "good on you, nothing wrong with shorts. Nathan seems to have issues with anything that show more skin than the wrist or ankle. Stupid fella, just ignore him." Of course, NM's sycophants accepted it, and self righteousness about men's clothing was born.
Tyranny must be disobeyed, because the alternative allows tyranny to succeed. I know people who have left the church because of this sort of interference, and while I do not say they were necessarily justified, I do not blame them either.
This is of course, assuming the whole FB and Social Media thing is in fact true.
And telling them to get stuffed, I don't mean literally, but simply refuse to go along with the ban. And with-holding support is a lever to use, when all else fails.

My understanding is that God would just open up another pipeline of money like manna from heaven to make up the difference. And you would lose the privilege of giving them your cash and laying up eternal treasure for yourself.

Is Review 005 behind this? Has he been complaining about these sites posting photos of conventions?

That seems to suggest that this directive did not really originate in the Philippines.... I noticed that review005 has gone dark a while ago. Did other workers disappear from social media in the past few months?

Dictators have always known one way to keep people uninformed about the truth of what is really happening is to keep them from communicating with one another.

In the past it was not talking a lot on the phone or getting together for anything other than meetings. picnics etc.

Did other workers disappear from social media in the past few months? This could be a "distractive argument" implying an overseas directive, and possibly be untrue. Who would know, but I suspect that it's a local thing. Review is probably lurking and licking his chops with what he sees, but by all accounts his presence and tone of writing on here was against the wishes of his fellow workers and overseer.Certainly a number of young workers here in NZ are on Facebook and communicate quite effectively with it, not only to the Friends, but also to Friends children who aren't in the church, and that has to be a good thing.

And they can't say they are following Jesus, because as far as I know he never had an iPhone. But then maybe that is good reason to ban iPhones. What next, credit cards, bank accounts, cars, flash houses. The list could be endless. They sure know how to get rid of their customers.

Either there is really a global crackdown underway, or these workers are trying to deceive their staff and the local followers by falsely implying that this is part of the new "standard of the kingdom" elsewhere.

I found it interesting that the note had concerns about correspondence from other countries. Me as well... I was under the impression that the "truth" being the same was one of the selling points... Why no communication then? What a bunch of ignoramuses.
