which verse in the Bible has created the most controversy Is this a trick question? Id say it was any verses that refer to One All Powerful Almighty Creative Being. Invisible. Supernatural oh yea the best bit...he wants to communicate with his creation. Me and you!

I really do not have a clue as to the most controversial verse, regretfully.
I do have a nominee for the most ignored verse, however. I nominate "Judge not, that ye be not judged."

It often amazes me to discover people quoting "judge not..." simply cannot finish the quote they seem so eager to promote..

“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

Lots of people judge with what they think is righteous judgment, doing that is NOT ignored. I agree with ynot.

My husband reckons it's genesis 1:1 in the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.
Because many believe in the big bang?

Yes, in the beginning because those words are in John 1:1 and Genesis 1. Because a lot of people don't believe in creation.
I would of however thought it would have been John 3:16 which is a favorite among Christians.

"Take up your cross and follow me"
What cross? What does "follow" mean? Did that apply back then only? What if you don't? How come many say we are saved if we believe? How does the "cross" reconcile with saved by grace? He bore the cross, why should we? The cross is a sign of weakness, no? Many have no knowledge of this cross, what then?

You demonstrated my point.
Yes, taking up the cross YOURSELF is a bone of contention to many.
It is in fact the Biggest Question we need to ask ourselves.

The Cross is all about grace Bert. Without the Cross there would be no forgiveness of sins which is God's grace to us. I'm surprised you didn't know that Bert. The Cross is a stumbling block and foolishness to some Bert. I think that should be, without the shedding of blood, there would be no forgivness of sins! Not the cross.

"Take up your cross and follow me"
How come many say we are saved if we believe? How does the "cross" reconcile with saved by grace? ? One would hope that these are merely rhetorical questions.

I think that should be, without the shedding of blood, there would be no forgivness of sins! Not the cross. The Cross was where Jesus shed His blood for remission of sins. The bread is His broken body and the wine His blood which we remember every time we have the emblems. Where else do you think He shed His blood if not on the Cross? As i said, it says in the bible, without the shedding of blood, there would be no forgivness of sins! Matthew 26 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. And once we partake in the drinking of the cup, we are partaking in the new testament which is Jesus' life, which he has poured out for us, giving up our lives for God, we are then taking up our cross and denying ourselves and following Jesus! Your not saved by just believing your saved by doing. It's not the hearers of the word, but the doers of the word. You can't just believe, you have to live it out!
