2 J: – About INDEPENDENT. Define your terms. Is there something suspicious about the term independent concerning a CHURCH?
Thanks,
Christ is God, Jessi

Well this all seems pretty strange to me. Yes, as it does to many of us. Yes. Yes. Kansas, USA, Earth Go ahead, ask them "Was Jesus God?" Buzzzzzzz. Sorry, wrong answer. The correct answer is "Some do". Thanks for playing. Don't forget to pick up your consolation prize. Well, now you know. No, a bad joke is finding no slip of paper in your fortune cookie.

Jessi why do you say Christ is God, why don't you use His name and say Jesus is God? Why is this an issue with me. Because I noticed all those years in meetings that the workers avoided using the name Jesus unless they were referring to something he said but instead more often referred to him as The Son Of God.
Christ means the sent one or anointed one, and there were many who called themselves Christ.
Perhaps you can answer for me why you use the word Christ rather than Jesus?

Independent to me means that it is a group that is separate from mainstream churches. Someone not happy with the mainstream churches that are there. A break away from main stream churches if you like.

I don't know. I never thought about my usage of Jesus, Christ, Messiah, Christ of God, Yeshua. Adonai. I'm sure I have said Jesus Christ and Jesus in my posts, no? Jesus is God. God is three personalities in one Godhead, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. I SAY Jesus is God all the time. In fact, when I find another "Jesus is God" proof text, I put it in my JiG file for my mama. I have no problem saying Jesus is God. I DID break down and look on the Internet because I was curious to know what your definition might be -- I don't know what all your cryptic messages or questions are about. What's it all about? You think I'm Church of Christ or Christ something? I dunno. I am a Calvinist of the reformed Baptist Faith and I belong to an Independent Bible Church (Independent, meaning, NOT INDEPENDENT FROM THE BOBY OF CHRIST, BUT IN GOVERNMENT) and I believe Jesus is God. Jesus Christ is Lord over all, And He is Holy, Holy, Holy! Amen. But I AM CHRIST'S FOREVER! Jessi

PS - I think I use The Christ and Christ a lot because it means THE MESSIAH, THE SAVIOR also, and connects to OT to the NT for me in a lot of my proofs about whether or not Jesus is God. I started out reading the Bible the second time through with that question in my head. IS JESUS GOD? I didn't even get beyond Isaiah. I knew.
Is 9:6 Jesus is God, Jessi

A break away from main stream churches if you like. No. I would say that you are misinformed. There are many churches within denominations that are independent in government. My sources for teaching include many denominations. For instance, I listen to some great Presbyterian preachers. But I don't believe in sprinkle baptism. Does that make him not a Christian to me? No. Do you belong to a church? What is mainstream to you? Churches that preach Jesus Christ and Him crucified, or . . . ? I'm not sure. I can tell you this. I have learned that mainstream is NOT the measure for truth. "Everyone else is doing it" doesn't work for me. It's not Biblical. God's people are to be set apart for Him and Holy. There are many "mainstream" churches today who offer a lot of milk and no meat. All entertainment and no teaching. I say, EVERYTHING THAT GLITTERS IS NOT GOLD. Jesus is God, Jessi

Just an interesting note.....Jesus' real name is Yeshua. That's His Hebrew name...Yeshua was a Jew. The name we use, Jesus, is a translation of His real name Yeshua.
I often wonder why we don't use His real name, Yeshua. If it was me, I would prefer to be called by my name, rather than a translated name of another language.
Just thinking.... Linda

Hi Linda,
You are a person born into a particular country and under a particular language. Your parents named you in that language. I understand your point, "If it was me, I would prefer to be called by my name, rather than a translated name of another language." I, too, would probably feel funny if someone was using another language's version of my name.
But in the case of Jesus, is He not beyond the limitations of any one language? Why would He mind which linguistic version of Yeshua/Iesous/Jesus/etc is used? He surely knows when someone is talking to Him.
Just my thoughts.

Linda If youd like to see those names , there is a Jewish New Testament, David Stern editor. It replaces all of the Jewish forms for names and some terms. It s a great reading New testament, nice for personal reading. Karl

Yes, I definitely agree Rob. And thanks, Karl,. that would be interesting and pleasing to read. Is Jesus Greek for Yeshua? I wonder how you say Linda in Hebrew or Greek? Maybe you can't. ?? Blessings, Linda (Lupe - my family nickname

The Christ of God Luke 9:20 - This is my favorite. Peter said this to Jesus. It reminds me of the restorative power of Christ the Lord in my life. The Bible is full of imperfect people for whom God made merciful provision, not at all based on whether they deserved it, but simply because they were His.
The Names of Jesus may mean different things to different people, but there shouldn't be a restriction on what I call Him. I am calling out the Name. The way I look at it, He was called Christ and Messiah before He was called Jesus. So, it doesn't seem strange to me to call Him Christ.
The Lord’s Christ Luke 2:26 The Christ, the Son of the Blessed The Christ, the Savior of the World Christ the Lord Luke 2:11 The Lord Christ Col 3:24
Christ is my Lord and my God, (and Jesus is God),
Jessi
