What is a cult simple definition?
A small religious group that is not part of a larger and more accepted religion and that has beliefs regarded by many people as extreme or dangerous. : a situation in which people admire and care about something or someone very much or too much.

we don't have a central messiah like leader
we don't have condoned bizarre sexual practices
we don't live in compounds or bunkers
we don't amass firearms as a group
we aren't anti-gov't as a group
we don't have mandatory tithing
after 18 people are free to stay or go
etc...etc

not really... we don't have a central messiah like leader we don't have condoned bizarre sexual practices we don't live in compounds or bunkers we don't amass firearms as a group we aren't anti-gov't as a group we don't have mandatory tithing after 18 people are free to stay or go etc...etc But you do brainwash people. You ruin children's lives. Sexual abuse is common. Threats of excommunication are common. Secrecy is how things are run in the UK Members of cults always say they aren't in a cult. Lack of transparency about money and workers. Refusal the discuss or acknowledge the fact that the 2by2's was started by William Irvine. You change the rules without explanation. I know from listening to my parents. They worried themselves sick that they were giving enough. We went without so that the workers could have. And, yes, that is the worker's fault. They didn't give a crap what families suffered financially as long as they were well fed. I'm glad I got out also. I was kicked out and disowned by my parents for refusing to attend meetings after I turned 18. No love there, but when did the workers ever preach love? Sorry Wally, don't agree, more than 25 in Australia alone. Yet they will not join the National Redress Scheme set up by the Australian Government to compensate Victims.

Some names will never appear they are suppressed by a Court order. if more people would report to them they would be able to they do have contacts with people around the world. one only has to go to their site to see that. thats sounds like a problem for your system in australia maybe you should start a petition to change that aspect of reporting offenders.... |

Is the 2x2 movement a cult? Does it meet the criteria? Discuss.. It is important to remember that a cult just has more social stigma than a "mainstream" church. The cult is not necessarily more harmful. Just like a case of gonorrhea might have more stigma than a diagnosis of brain cancer, but brain cancer is far more deadly. Sometimes when I read about the situations people talk about I question how much is a result of the religion they were affiliated with or the fact that the family would be identified as a dysfunctional family no matter to which religious group they belonged. |

Common would be in relation to the population in general. How common is CSA in the general population? Since the majority of CSA is by a relative or close acquaintance considering membership in any organization to be a primary cause might be misleading. Even with all of the press and investigation into, for example, the abuse in the Catholic church, the abuse rate related to the church and its staff was well below the rate in the general population. I hate to admit it but I have to agree with @wally. Discussions without accurate facts and clear definitions have little value. Take the word 'cult'. The majority of the time it is used as a 'skunk' word that demonstrates how the person introducing the topic feels before any discussion starts. And there are a broad number of definitions that can be applied. The best religious definition I have seen: cult - a religion/organization I don't like. What people see as a cult shows as much about them as what organization looking at. Often people say they cannot define what a cult is but they know it when they see it. Oddly enough, the same is frequently said about pornography. |
