My peace came from knowing I had no appointments, no place I HAD to be at a certain time, a day to myself. I watched both the moon and the sun rise, took in many wonderful sights, watched a regent bower bird, stunning colours, and was able to be thankful for life, for love and loved ones. God is good to me!!! PS the phone rang and changed a few things, but God us still good!! It's only early here, but my peace yesterday came from playing with my one year old grandson and loving his innocence. He's so cute, then he climbed on my knee, and curled right up into me for a cuddle. And I feel so blessed for what God has given me in my life.

Although probably not on the same level as many posting here, I get a sense of peace knowing that all of the events in the past, present, and future will follow the natural laws of the universe and are not dependent on the whims of a supernatural being. Knowing that I, and I alone, am responsible for the decisions I make and the actions I take without being concerned whether it conforms to a set of conflicting ancient rules does give peace.
There is also an odd peace in knowing a little about the motion of the earth, the moon, and the planets and having some understanding of the universe and the place that I and the other members on my species occupy. There is joy in looking at a rainbow with children and explaining how it all works and then demonstrating what was told with a drop of rain hanging on a leaf and seeing that 'eureka' moment as they grasp the simplicity.
There is also joy in watching children who know they have the right to attack an old man if he first sprays them with water and they feel free enough to drive him from the porch because he fears the excessive water will ruin his phone and make the papers in his wallet unreadable. 5 children can deliver a lot of water - especially after I ran out! And then they were cheeky enough to ask me to come back out on the porch because they had something to show me. But, of course, I would not need my sprayer. They were so pleased they had 'tricked" me!
The question is not what brings peace and joy but why?

Can relate to all the posts above that bring people peace. Good friends, grandchildren, a day off with no scheduled events. Learning about what makes this world work, learning period brings me peace. The more I understand about how things work the more in awe I am about my world and everything in it.

If he can bring rainbows to the earth that appear in the sky through the water and sun. Then he can also bring a spirit from heaven to earth through his son.

If you learned more about rainbows you could go big with the allegories. In each individual raindrop you see a single color even though each drop reflects all of the colors. To see the rainbow you need to have the sun behind you and look in the direction of your shadow at falling rain. Each rainbow is the work of millions of tiny droplets, all working towards the glory of... well you see what I mean!

I call it revelation, I'm not that clever I saw that whilst watering the garden and showed my children and grandchildren Just to get the kids on the right track, tell them about light and refraction! Today I watched two eagles soaring, truly a beautiful and wondrous sight. They used currents I cannot see nor determine, saw things I cannot and sensed things I cannot even comprehend. I am not graceful nor beautiful, however God has given me the ability to appreciate these things....what a gift!!

I had a quiet day at home, doing household chores. For background music I select favorite hymns on utube. Problem is slows me down, takes longer to do jobs. But it does bring peace.

Two living creatures taking advantage of thermal currents to soar - perhaps if I had said sailplane or fixed-wing glider instead of hang-glider you would see the comparison.

Even thought in both cases they are taking advantage of the same phenomena... can you explain why there is no comparison? Two living creatures taking advantage of thermal currents to soar - perhaps if I had said sailplane or fixed-wing glider instead of hang-glider you would see the comparison. There are some things that compare. You mentioned one, " in both cases they are taking advantage of the same phenomena". I'm not sure I care to list all the things that don't compare. There are many.

You are correct I am not into hang gliding. My experience with emergency services tells me that 'riding the thermals'....is NOT such a well understood event! I didn't say everyone understood thermals. You can see natural selection doing its thing (culling the herd) on those who fail to understand them and yet try to take advantage of them!

To be able to say "It is well with my soul", gives great peace. Remember our soul is ours alone, individual to each person. We are responsible to God, for it.

Eating and swallowing food is well understood but there frequent choking deaths. The role friction, momentum, reaction time, and the effects of alcohol on the brain is well understood but injury from traffic accidents due to inebriated drivers don't stop. The functionality of a firearm is well understood but many die from accidental shooting deaths. Understanding an event does not preclude injury.

Yes Redback, that is a very beautiful hymn and the story behind Horatio Spafford writing it is truly amazing......he reminds me of Job. I love it all and especially the part 'my sin not in part, but in whole, is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more'.....lot if peace and freedom there.
My peace today was going for an evening walk hand in hand with my husband, down a deserted country road with no sounds of busyness around us and billions of stars shining above us!

My peace today (well yesterday now) was sharing the evening with around 30 of my family on the beach, watching the sunset with my sister for her birthday. It was lovely!

Something of "Let There Be Peace" that I witnessed lately was not a quiet moment at all but a joyous celebration of the recognition of the right to love the person of your choosing.
It was the Gay Pride parade in Amsterdam of over 60 floats acknowledging that love does not have to consist of only those people whom others dictate we should love. My favorite float consisted of members of the various military.
Sometimes we feel that the progress of freedom inches a step forward then two back & takes forever to get any where, but with a strong pursuance of a sense of what is right by even a few people, I have seen advancement in equality for all people in my own lifetime.
That brings Peace.
