Several have mentioned a worker or two who liked to snoop around the house. I wonder if they were being nosey and thinking they were keeping watch over the things that enter into the kingdom? They assumed they had the right to investigate. We gave the workers WAY too much power. They had a key to our home!

They assumed they had the right to investigate. We gave the workers WAY too much power. They had a key to our home! There are probably lots of people who give keys to the workers. It's probably find 99.9% of the time but I think we all agree that there is occasionally a bad worker (or even one who is overzealous and thinks they are doing good when they cross the line). We give a key to our babysitter when we go on vacation so the cat and fish get fed. Am I giving her too much power?

We used to arrange things "just so" so if they messed with things we'd know... nothing sinister... more of an experiment in human behavior than anything else. Wifey's underwear and bra collection were targeted a couple of times as was our prescription medication, and our collection of... ahem... adult toys... they're in a locked box now

Definitely hide the meds! Workers do snoop. I won't name names but one sister worker we knew would talk about who was on anti-depressants etc. They really know a families secrets by going through the medicine cabinet. And if you think that they don't--ha! not only do they look--but they talk about what they see. Big gossipers--there is no confidentiality like in some religions.
They would also look for wine--tvs etc. We got in trouble once for reading People magazine!

So what if they snoop? They can only see and find what you have and do. God already knows.
If you are not ashamed of doing and having in front of God, what does it matter what man might know?

that is true---God already knew that the elders wife took Prozac.
But I am sure that it did not help her nerves any to have everyone talking about her "problems" behind her back once the workers told people about it.
There are things that are just not the workers business. Sure GOD knows but that does not mean that any man needs to know. And they should not take advantage--snoop to find out secrets--and then gossp and hurt people.

"watch over the things that enter into the kingdom" workers will lucky IF they enter into the kingdom - God does not accept liars, cheats, deceivers, molesters or gossips - read the 10 commandments.

This is a completely true story....
One time we had the workers staying in our home. The older worker was a large man. Anyway, after we had all gone up to sleep we heard something down in the kitchen so decided to go down and take a peak.
Anyway, we crept down the stair and peeked into the kitchen and there was the elder worker ransacking our refrigerator. He was going through everything. He even went through the cupboards with canned goods in it. Before you knew it he had himself a whole second dinner prepared and had a pepperoni stick hanging out his mouth to boot.
Can you believe the audacity of some workers. Going through your stuff.

That's part of their basic training.... When entering a friends house firstly, secure the food stores. Then hunt for the TV.

that is true---God already knew that the elders wife took Prozac. But I am sure that it did not help her nerves any to have everyone talking about her "problems" behind her back once the workers told people about it. There are things that are just not the workers business. Sure GOD knows but that does not mean that any man needs to know. And they should not take advantage--snoop to find out secrets--and then gossip and hurt people. This is good advice. While I realize that privacy is quickly becoming non existent and also believe firmly in living openly and honestly, a person still has to consider the ramifications of revealing some things, especially to workers. I have seen many people become victims of the inability of workers to respect privacy. The culture of the church is particularly important with regard to workers passing on certain information. Workers are given much more credibility and meaning when they speak than regular friends. So when workers talk about or intimate about problems someone else is having in the church, it gets a lot of attention and gets spread very quickly. It often ruins relationships between people in the church. Some workers are very canny about using this power. They will often give only half a story so that people will be led to a conclusion about someone, but will still be able to claim that they never did pass on the information. Some workers are so comfortable in their power to be believed that they will casually lie to protect themselves or what they perceive to protect the church and its reputation. I have seen this on many occasions. Not long ago I asked a worker a question to which I already knew the answer as it was part of an important discussion on a church action and I needed to know the worker's sincerity and honesty in the discussion. The answer was a blatant lie to protect something wrong that the church was doing. I could see then that this worker had no interest in doing what was right in that situation and I was wasting my time other than letting them know that someone was watching. What makes all this such a difficult issue to deal with is that the workers invariably think they are doing the right thing by spreading private stories to warn others or lying to protect the church. When the wrongness of this is pointed out, they are unrepentant as they see it as part of their pastoring duties. Openness in a church is only helpful when love dominates the church. A healthy church will use negative information about someone to reach out to them and help them. When it is used as a tool to put others down and condemn them for any reason, it makes sense to be careful about releasing personal information in such an unhealthy environment. "Be wise as serpents and harmless as doves."

Bear in mind that the relationship between the "Friends" and the "Workers" is consensual. There is no danger of having Workers invade your home; they only enter where they have been have been told they are welcome.
My parents would always say, "Come on in, and make yourself at home." So the Workers did just that.
If you tell the Workers not to play with your wife's lacy things, and leave the drugs and dildoes alone, I'm sure that they would comply. It's up to the homeowner to set the limits.

Dear imnx2: Are you ashamed of doing and having in front of God? If your answer is NO, please post all of your personal information (name, address, phone number, email address, workplace name, workplace address, workplace phone number, workplace email address, social security number, medical history, credit history, DMV records, current and past medication, all neurosis and anything else it doesn't matter if man might know.) Oh, and thanks for leading the way into a society where privacy has no value. Sincerely, a fellow open society advocate

quote - "Is that what you told that 12-year old boy you were chatting with last night?"
Now that was completely uncalled for.
First of all, he is 13, not 12 and his birthday is next friday. Second, he's really mature for his age. Third, our relationship was his idea. Fourth, we're just special friends, nothing more.

Maybe the workers "snoop" cause they have needs.
I was a kid back in the 80's and got an accidental upskirt shot of one of the sister workers as she was sitting down - NO PANTIES!
Maybe they're "snooping" to find something they need like underwear!!!

Please ignore our dear friend "bert unlogged" He is probably the same person who has the "adult toys" and needs to believe the Workers are a little like himself. Why would bert need adult toys when he's got 14 year old boys?

In the early 1980's ago we were in a distant meeting as visitors. The people of the home were not there, the workers had a key and opened the home for Sunday Am.
Somehow the conversation went to the people of the home, here we were as visitors, barely knowing any of the people. One of the workers was from our field.
They began talking about how these people locked their bedroom closet. They were speculating on what was locked in there.
As the years have passed, I've found myself thinking again and again wondering WHY the workers were in the people's bedroom, trying the closet door?
Why was such a subject spoken about-especially in front of visitors?
Years later and my own experiences with workers with loose tongues telling things that I thought were spoken in private, I understand why the closet was locked.

When I tell someone to make themselves at home, I'm giving them permission to go into the kitchen and help themselves to the food.
Or to go into the linen cabinet, or the medicine cabinet, and take as they need from it.
My bedroom, however, is off limits to all.

In all honesty,
when I invite someone into my home I do not care if they make themselves at home: get there own food, take a shower whenever, go find stuff in the linen closet, find medicine in the cupboard, play the board games from the game closet, etc.
What would bother me if they were snooping around my home for the soul intention of finding dirt with the soul purpose of defaming my character. I mean that is just plain rude.
But then again I have no reason to hide the TV. And the workers have even come over and watched it a couple times during big news events and such.
And I despise porn, alocholics, perversion... so there is no chance they would find any of that crap in my house even if they searched from low to high.
