I am not really sure what to say either about your belief. Perhaps I could respectfully direct you to read some good science and then in a year or so get back to me and tell me whether you still believe in your god. If Science can bring me love, peace, joy contentment and hope...then by all means direct me. But you haven't given me a reason why I would want to give up something so meaningful and dear to me, for a scientific theory. I have been through tests way more searching than science and it has made me value more what I have. There are paths to love, peace, joy, contentment and hope that do not require the existence of a supernatural being.

Perhaps you could see a trick cyclist then and ask for help with your delusions. I find it interesting that you appear to almost resent the fact that people can have a faith and are 100% happy with what it brings into their lives. If people are content, why would you want to change things for them? Surely if you believe life finishes when you die, then all you would want for people is for them to live happy lives and contribute positively to society? Maybe you dont want people to have what you haven't got? Just curious. " contribute positively to society"One of the things that I observed in my own life when I was still in the 2x2's is about the "contribute positively to society."
There were so many things that I saw happening that needed to change society for the benefit of all people but I was hamstrung! when it came to trying to do something about it!
I didn't have the time! -Too busy going to "meetings"! -Too busy having to "study" the bible! I would have been called on the carpet for messing in "worldly affairs!"
Can you tell me what you are able to do that "contributes positively to society?" Also how do you find the time to do it?

Of course I am not offended, jetmech! Why should I be?
All I wonder is where did you receive your degree in child psychology, jetmech?
yeah right, like your average parent has a degree....whats required is a little common sense not a degree.... I didn't see this post by dmmichgood until just now 1/1/2019 and I just wanted to let you know dmmichgood I started out in college majoring in elementary education, and studied a little child psychology. Was even fortunate to go on a couple of related field trips and so on... it was all very interesting, then I changed my major to AVIATION MAINTENANCE & TECHNOLOGY. It's nothing really. It was all very interesting though; but, I never forgot my foster child roots and where I came from. Truly it's nothing.

That’s a peculiar position for a Christian to take given the huge amount of proselytisation the Christian churches undertake particularly among the developing nations. We saw recently the failed attempt by a Christian missionary to bring Christianity to the people of the Sentinelese islands. You ask why, if people are content, you would want to change things for them? Why indeed? Why can’t Christians just leave people alone? I was recently approached on a public street by two evangelical Christians who wanted to sell me their version of Jesus. They weren’t at all concerned that I was already 100% content without him. I told them I didn’t believe in their Jesus. They said that if I started to believe in their Jesus he would save me from eternal damnation. I told them I didn’t believe in eternal damnation or for that matter in Satan. So there was nothing for me to be saved from. They said if I started to believe in Jesus I would come to the realisation that hell was real and that only Jesus could offer me salvation. I thought this was the equivalent of telling me that there was a man in the attic with a baseball bat who, if I would care to go up there, would give me a good beating but that they would go up there with me and save me from it. Actually I think I’ll just stay where I am thanks and forego both the risk of a beating and your very kind offer to save me from it. Of course the objective of the non believer writing on a public board such as this is not to diminish people’s happiness. It is to highlight flaws in religious belief systems. Christians do this too of course. I recall the 2x2s regularly having a go at other churches particularly the Roman Catholic one. (Men who dress like mother and insist on being called father.) Other Christians here enjoy bashing the 2x2 belief system. I say to people that if you are uncomfortable having your beliefs challenged or find it difficult to defend your belief system then think carefully about promoting your beliefs on a public forum. If there are flaws in your belief system others will point them out. It has got nothing to do with resentment or, for that matter, grumpiness or loneliness as others here have (rather unkindly) suggested. Matt10

Want to really test your parents' 'tolerance' for their 'prodigal son'?? Want to find out what they really believe about you? Want to find out if they respect your beliefs or if they are just quietly biding their time? Become a devote Roman Catholic. There is nothing that these extreme Protestant sects/cults hate more than Roman Catholicism. If you declared yourself a Satanist, that would be less concerning for them. Your position as an atheist is in the 2x2's mind just a temporary position, due to your rebellious spirit and hard heart. Become a real Christian, and you will see sparks fly from your 2x2 parents and relatives.
And for the record, all the churches outside of catholic orthodoxy (Lutheran, Anglican, Roman) are field hospitals on the road to catholic orthodoxy.
Are you one of those christians who like to see division rather than unity? Christ loves unity. and the 2x2's show unity?

It is not the job of scientific findings make you feel at "peace, or loved, or content".
It CAN give you "hope" if you have disease that might be the death of you.
They already make your life much easier and you use their findings every day!
Seems you are wanting to pick & choose the scientific findings that benefit you but deny any other findings that might disturb you.

How tangible is this interest you talk about? Surely the creation of the universe, creation of animals and plant life, cells, anatomy, etc., is much more complex than just the toss of the dice, or playing cards. Surely you realize that the only people who believe this is held by creationists as false arguments against evolution. If you fail to understand the facts of a situation is is easy to believe false claims being made.

Where and how I worship is irrelevant in this discussion. I am talking about God in my life -not about a particular denomination. I dont really understand where you are coming from . I can contribute in any way I see fit. Go to work, pay taxes, help others, work for charity, visit the elderly, coach a sport, join a club...you need any more? Why were you hamstrung? So going to church and reading your bible etc left you no time for positive contribution to society? Well if that was the case people that are committed to sport, those that work overtime or have a long commute to work must be off the list too. A pretty lame excuse.

Matt10 Yes Matt 10 I agree that there us nothing more annoying than being preached at when you have no interest in the subject. If people ask me about my faith I tell them but otherwise not. I certainly dont feel uncomfortable having my beliefs challenged, my original post was a reply to statement that was totally incorrect from my perspective. I was just pointing that out.Interesting discussion though.

I have been through tests way more searching than science and it has made me value more what I have. In essence, jani, -you have just given the reason why so people would rather deny reality and keep on believing something. It is because their beliefs are based on how good it makes them feel, -"love, peace, joy, contentment and hope."
Understandable, -but as a non-believer, - I came to the place where I realized that it was just an emotional reason that I was believing something that was really UNBELIEVABLE!
I had to face the fact it was just a facade. Sure it hurt for awhile to get rid of it.
Just like having surgery to get rid of my "appendix" -a left over appendage from humankind's earlier ages but was of no use what-so-ever today.
In fact that appendix which has no use for us today can actually kill us!
The journey out can be painful, -like a lot of journeys, -but well worth the effort. My husband makes me feel good too but as that's just an emotion I guess I should get rid if him. Apparently it will be painful but worth the effort!

I have said for some time that if atheists want to have theists become atheists then they need to have something as comforting to offer. I am an atheist and while it's the only road for me, I fully understand that other's need the comfort and security that religions bring to some people. I do believe we have only one life and I do think it's important to be happy in it. The only time I advocate that people leave their God belief system is if they are having lots of problems with cognitive dissonance. Then maybe it's time to let go of those beliefs that require faith. I am a believer that people need to do whatever it takes to lead a happy peaceful life. If belief in a god, doesn't matter which one, is what does that for them, then by all means do that. For me I failed at faith. I needed something more concrete, something that I could have proof of. When it happened to me that I realized there was no evidence of a God, it was very scary at first. I'd grown up to believe in an afterlife and all sorts of things and it was quite a transition to let all that go. But it's the best thing I ever did for myself. So if belief in a god is the best thing you can do for your self, then by all means, do that. But please, don't view us that no longer believe as immoral or the enemy. We aren't. We are simply people that no longer believe there is a god of any kind.

Quick everyone take up your sword and protect your children, your wife, your home, your city. The believer says oh no, I'll have none of that, God's will be done! I think it works both ways. Believers want us atheists to become believers but we wouldn't be happy as believers. We've already done that and it wasn't for us. Atheists want theists to base their understanding on something more reality based, but theists aren't happy doing that. If the two groups could let the other group do what makes them happy and quit trying to tell each other what they should make them happy, we'd all be better off. But some religions actually have proselytizing built right into their religion. It's mandatory to convert others to their version of God. That's when we run into trouble. Let those who will take up the sword do so and let the theists that just want to pray about it do that. In the end it really doesn't matter what our beliefs were in life just so long they were beliefs that let you be true to yourself. There is no point in living life unhappy trying to be what someone else wants you to be. One thing that does make me sad though is when theists believe they are sinners. That makes me sad. But I should always remember that if that belief actually makes them happy, who am I to tell them to not believe that. I know it doesn't work for me but it obviously is working for them. So be it.

This minister said it was too late for that man ... he died a couple or so days after that.

Matt10 I TELL you guys the truth in a NUTshell, according to God's words, the Creator of ALL things. If you want to believe there is NO God, that is your choice and you will live with your choice for eternity. Don't say we didn't warn you.

If you want to believe there is NO God, that is your choice and you will live with your choice for eternity. Don't say we didn't warn you. Belief is NOT a choice. Try this. 1. Think of a food that you really don't like 2. Now "intentionally choose to believe" you like this food 3. Taste the food again. Did it work?

Are you one of those christians who like to see division rather than unity? Christ loves unity. and the 2x2's show unity?Yes I know of spiritual unity amongst my brethren.

"It is far better to grasp the universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring."
- Carl Sagan This is an accommodation to deism, the impersonal view of god, as opposed to the personal view of Christians, who after the sinful projection of common men, thoroughly proceeded to profane it. II Peter 2:2 Pick your poison.
