What I realize is that "saying" has been repeated so many times & used to condemn & control so many people that it is causes me pain to see those people STILL being hurt by it!
THAT is what I realize! What you don't seem to realize that your expression of "hurt" is telling the truth you are hiding from. Because you see/feel hurt by those words says you are not as disbelieving in the Bible as you so like to claim. If you really disbelieved the Bible those words can wouldn't even be seen by you much less the rancor you have with them. Again words from long ago are still living today as in the words spoken by God to Moses. It isn't you they've turned away from, but me they've turned away from. You totally misunderstood what I said and even if I repeat it I doubt that you will see it any different because you don't want to see it differently
I did not say that I was "hurt" by those words
I am NOT the one "hurt" by those words.
It is other people who live their whole lives chained to a phrase and are controlled by and fearful that if they ignore it they will it that they go to some terrible place when they die.
I am not "hiding" from anything. I can see right through the reasons why those words are used. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What one really should consider are the methods used to obtain "evidence" at the time of the NT, -word of mouth, -supernatural visions etc.
But perhaps even more important is the process they used to interpret THAT evidence.
In NT biblical days the system of analyzing & interpreting things was so totally unlike the way we do today that we can't just accept without question anything said at that time.
In those days of the bible the whole world determined the " truth" of something using different criteria than we do today!
example: there were beliefs of OTHER people "raising from the dead, -no JUST Jesus! That same criteria continued until the 18th century when we entered the Age of Enlightenment also called the Age of Reason.
That is when a set of criteria begin to be developed that could be used universally in all situations where one was seeking to know the truth of a matter.

That shouldn't be possible if what you believe is based on verifiable fact. I think one reason why atheists are considered a threat when they talk about facts vs faith is that there is nothing tangible for theists to point to. That's got to be hard and one reason why a strong faith is seen as such a virtue by theists. Shouldn't be a situation in a normal exchange between people However again the barrage that is a fierce rapid exchange from one side, isn't a normal pattern of communication. Thus it becomes a kind of brainwashing. True there are people who can't be hypnotized, brainwashed, or affected when subjected to the barrage. But there are oversensitive are easily affected. I think that Snow is right.
I believe that is why theists "feel" as if it is a "barrage" at them because they ARE unable to show any tangible for their view.
They see it as an attack on THEM when it is really not.
But it certainly hasn't anything to do with "brainwashing."

The preaching of the cross is only a comfort to those who believe. If you were diagnosed with Hansen’s disease would you turn to prayer or get treatment with antibiotics? If I had an ancient text that claimed by rubbing the silver droppings of a unicorn on infected areas would provide a cure would you try it? No info have I given should make you come up with this post. Why not?
It was really on target.

It is foolishness no matter to whom it is being preached. It is the same line of thinking that makes people come up with things like: "There are no atheists in fox holes." as if people will suddenly turn to god because they are in a tough situation. It is as foolish as trying to convince you to start using silver unicorn droppings as a cure because you read about it in some ancient text. Frankly, I was surprised that you posted it. It speaks directly against trying to spread the gospel. It reminds me (again) of the following: Eskimo: 'If I did not know about God and sin, would I go to hell?' Priest: 'No, not if you did not know.' Eskimo: 'Then why did you tell me?'

John 6:28. The Apostles asked Jesus ..."what shall we do that we might work the works of God." Jesus answered them, "This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent." The gospel is to be preached even though some people think it's foolishness. Why? It will come to us on the Great Judgment Day and for some it won't be a good thing. BTW, flywheels do break. I just found out to the tune of nearly $700.00! After having spent $2200.00 to repair the damage done by the timing chain which happened because some careless worker didn't put the washers on the timing chains rods! But that's life in the fast lane. Expensive! 😱
