To my mind, blasphemy of the HOLY SPIRIT is denial of His divinity. Plain and simple. Cut and dried. That answers for me all the other biblical teachings regarding Him, His being purpose and existence.

blasphemy to me is the denial that the Holy Spirit ever existed in your life or ever existed at all...

Maybe you are thinking of Mark 3:29? There the word is blaspheme - to speak against or call evil - instead of profane - to make common or defile - was because they were calling god's holy spirit 'unclean' and I suppose variations on that would also qualify.

I chose this subject as I'd never heard anyone preach or interpret the subject. So please folks don't hold back just tell what it means to you or what you've heard it to mean. Of all does and don'ts related to biblical instructional this seems to be the most important but the most left out of biblical discussions, etc.

probably the lack of answers is because most don't even know what blasphemy of the Holy Spirit even means...you should also state what you think it means...

I'm afraid when I do that will be the real end. I'm wanting people to open up and share their thoughts and feelings on the subject. My reason is that many don't give it consideration and as it is the only unforgivable sin..don't you think we should know what it is?

What do YOU think profaning the Holy Spirit is? A trump card in an argument without the option of negotiation. Agree or else ...... cause I said so.

Well I guess Einstein is profaning the Holy Spirit himself. Being a celebrated and highly competent theoretical physicist doesn't make you an expert on the bible, or philosophy or even as was the case, a good husband.
This is why I won't have a Worker tell me how the universe works - it's not their area of competency.

As an unforgivable sin, and advised not to even pray for it, the explanation evaded me for some time. Then understanding what it meant to blaspheme the Holy Spirit, much much more came to me/entered my mind. If the Holy Spirit is the means whereby the Father and Son dwell within one, by denying the Holy Spirit's Divinity, a human being silences the voice of God to them forever because of remaining in that condition. No longer a mystery nor surprise to me...

"The more I study science the more i believe in God". Albert Einstein. I doubt Einstein would have ever said that. Various groups want to claim Einstein for themselves, just as they do the flag, our history etc.. Fact is Einstein was an atheist. But Newton was a Christian (sort of) Makes no difference. Says nothing about Christianity.
But in saying the bible is a myth puts Einstein on shaky ground. Not that he cared.

Profaning the holy spirit is a victimless crime (like blasphemy)

Are you sure? What if the holy spirit is the enduring source of our identity? Would you profane humankind? Is that victimless? What has been/what will be the source of our identity? Random acts of nature?

Random acts of nature? Profaning the Holy Spirit is not a victimless crime. According to the bible it is an unforgivable sin. So I think that makes the one who does the profaning the victim.

Your right Bert, Loads of people believe the rubbish on the internet, the myth about Einstein being a christian is one of them. By the way I passed through Murchison the other day and I was stunned to see Elvis out having coffee and cucumber sandwiches with Princess Dianna.

I started a thread once in this regard. Figured after hearing everyone's take on what they thought it meant, I'd have a clearer understanding. After quite a few pages of comments it was no clearer to me than before I had started to the thread. Do you know what it means?

Blandie mentioned Mark 3:29...Be sure to read verses 22-30. This what Jesus said was blaspheming the Holy Ghost. The point to remember er that in Johns gospel it says that Jesus had the Holy Spirit NOT by measure. So saying Jesus had Beelzebub they bblasphemed the Holy Spirit.
Please don't let this stop comments. This is a subject we really to set our hooks in and sadly in2x2s I never head it even mentioned as if they were afraid to do so. Nor have I heard other churches preach on it.
