Thread regarding Dean Bruer, fmr overseer of Oregon, who died in a motel on June 21, 2022. Exposed abuser.This thread is for a collation of the more objective posts about Dean Bruer. It will be maintained by the admin team, who will copy reported info (rather than opinions) to this thread. Sadly, the threads on Dean Bruer elsewhere on TMB have degenerated as usual into arguments and slanging between the usual suspects, rendering it near impossible for those of us more interested in knowing what's been happening (rather than personal opinions of individuals). The below post of June 25, 2022, was at the start of the 'Death Notices' thread, informing of the death of Dean Bruer. It was appended to inform that the maid who entered the room at 10 am believed that Dean Bruer was sleeping in the chair. It was later in the day when the maid re-entered the room and discovered he was still slumped in the chair that she dialled 911. These two posts were deleted by the original poster on 24 March 2023. The information is repeated here for full transparency of the facts and the timeline. Its with a very heavy heart we deliver this news. The coroners office called Lori Grant this morning - her number was on a permission to drive letter in the car that Dean Bruer was driving. He stopped at a hotel at Gov Camp last night - apparently not feeling good?? When the maid entered the room this morning about 10 he was slumped over in a chair in his pajamas. The police came and it was confirmed he was gone. No evidence at all of foul play. He had medication for high blood pressure they say. They say his legs were swollen consistent with a cardiac issue. So quite apparent it was a fatal heart attack. We weren't able to get details until his sister called first. Josh and I are on the way to pick up his belongings and car. The older brothers know as of a few minutes ago. There will be more details forthcoming obviously - just did want to let you know. Corrected and full story to date posted above. (as one TMB member pointed out, be aware that inevitably there are still a lot of opinions quoted in this thread, e.g. post calling the friends and workers a 'cult')

Post below copied and pasted from source. This is regarding the urgent worker meetings in Oregon and Montana. As most of you know, Oregon overseer Dean Bruer was found dead of a heart attack in a motel room last June. The workers are now sharing that they found “incriminating evidence” that Dean frequented multiple hotels where he had sexual encounters with many people and raped “underage kids”. There have also been multiple sister workers come forward that he had sexually assaulted and/or harassed them. No other information was shared on the ages of the victims, how many there were, or if they all came from professing homes. The workers admitted to knowing about this for quite some time but didn’t specify exactly how long they have known. It was eluded that they discovered this information when going through Deans belongings, in which case they have probably known since last summer. This whole situation was conveyed in a letter written by Doyle Smith, however, people were not allowed to keep the letter; the workers had them read it in front of them and then hand it right back. The workers also admitted that they were sharing this now only because rumors have started and they want to get ahead of them, meaning that they are in damage control mode. Their main party line continues to be that Dean was just one man who had human faults and the workers continue to be “Gods ordained ministry”…if this situation makes you doubt meetings or the workers then it is just Satan trying to make his way into your heart. The workers are claiming to be sharing this out of “transparency” but are asking that people do not discuss this with others, won’t allow them to keep the letter, and won’t share additional information when questioned. This is incredibly disturbing, disgusting, and infuriating information and I’m sure there will be more to come out in the next days/weeks. I’ll continue to share what I learn and I hope to hear anything you learn as well. Hopefully by sharing what we know, we can destroy this veil of secrecy that is so prevalent in the 2x2 cult. |

As you travel along and look for some of the guides (lighthouses) at night, they have particular characteristics.
One may flash every 10 seconds, another every 14 or 20 or 30 seconds. So, you see a light in the darkness and you use your watch to time it.
There are little markings on the chart that indicate how often that light will flash, so even though they all so the same work, they do have identifying characteristics.
The lights of the Kingdom may all be doing the same thing but there are identifying characteristics.
I thought of the characteristics of a servant of God.
Even the children know some of the identifying marks of the ministry: selling all, going forward by faith, two together, sharing the Gospel, bring peace into homes.
A few years ago we met a religious man and were having a nice visit with him and he brought up Matthew 10, where Jesus sent the twelve apostles.
Often we like to bring up that chapter but he did!
Then he said, "Now I can begin to understand Matthew 10. Previously, I have never known anyone I could relate that chapter to, but I begin to understand it now..." His knowledge of Matthew, 10, and other underage children by the sounds of it. Bringing his piece into homes. Two together. Flashing people at regular intervals. And once again, people knew and were either too afraid of being bullied to come forward or swept it under the proverbial rug. Anyone who knew about any encounters with underage children is criminally liable. |

Letter re: Dean Bruer March 20, 2023 Our Dear Friends It is with a very heavy heart we share the following difficult information, but we feel it is imperative that we do so. We trust you will understand and be in agreement We have come to the tragic conclusion that Dean Bruer had another side to his life that none of us, except victims, ever witnessed or suspected it has come to the surface in recent months and more so in recent weeks. that Dean was a sexual predator. We never respect or defend such totally inappropriate behavior among us. There is a very united consensus among us that the only thing to do is to be transparent with all of you for obvious reasons, though this is very difficult. We are very sorry for the hurt this will bring to the hearts of many. Thankfully, he is no longer in a position to hurt anyone. Some things have come to light from Dean's own records. Dean had his own Best Western Hotel preferred customer account and spent a considerable amount of time and money in motels. As we all know, when he died last June, it was in a motel in Government Camp, OR; a place that he frequented. The receipts often included "two guests. Victims have come forward, and there was very confirming and incriminating evidence found on his computer and phone. His actions include rape and abuse of underage victims. He totally abused his authority as an overseer in order to control, manipulate and threaten his victims. We are strongly recommending our staff look at the Ministry Safe Program and possibly other venues that help understand, recognize, and prevent such problems. Overwhelmingly, our greatest concern in all of this is the victims. known and unknown. We do hope and pray this message somehow reaches the ears of every unknown victim if there are more. We feel very anxious to assure them that we are anxious to do everything possible to be a support. We understand that people like this are dangerously equipped to twist what has happened in such a way that the victim feels it's their fault, and thereby the predator's criminal behavior is hidden from others. We assure you, there is no possibility anyone will lay blame, except at the feet of the ONE very wrong man who has caused your pain. We are sorry! We hope you will have courage to reach out to any of us, or anyone that you feel you can talk to. We understand your need for privacy as well as support working through this, and we all intend to respect that. None of us had any idea that such terrible things were happening until several woks after his death. There is no possible way that this would not have been immediately reported had we known. Some of us very much regret that we didn't somehow discover his actions and prevent more pain. We all feel betrayed naturally. We have come to the conclusion that the very dangerous thing about people like him is that they do what they do without conscience, thus it's much easier for them to pretend to be something that they aren't. We cannot live a lie when we love truth, and honestly live before God, respecting His approval as the scripture teaches us. We sang recently, "All through the storm I see they face beaming with love and with saving grace." Our desperate prayer for you all, especially anyone that has been hurt, is that God will show Himself very strong. In Mark 4, the disciples found themselves in the worst storm of their life which caused a lot of distress. But at the conclusion of the storm there was a greater appreciation than ever for the miracle capacity Jesus had to deliver perfect peace despite storms. Our hearts desperately ache for the disappointment and sense of betrayal this will bring to countless hearts and again especially for the pain inflicted to victims. Looks like the poop has hit the fan in the US with another scandal. After reading some gushing comments of the now instantly infamous Mr Bruer one cant help but notice the overwhelming characteristic that made Dean such a wonderful fellow, and that characteristic would be his religious form......kinda shows how religious form isn't worth a crumpet but that's was the dominant factor for his godlike status..... evaluating people on their religious performance is not a good idea and here we have another perfect example why....his religious performance didn't mean 💩 at the end of the day......all that matterers if you be a proper person, everything else is self endulgance. Sorry to drag you into this bob but I remember recently someone evaluating your life based on your lack of religous loyalty and beliefs......turns out it's not a reliable factor and you are mostly likely not the spawn of Satan, who knew......... You also can't tell me people didn't notice odd behaviour....... Feeling sad for the victims and the knock-on effect it most definitely has had on people around the victims.... |

The letter doesn't even sound like they've gone to the police! I sure wouldn't want to be the worker or friend in possession of that creeps laptop doing my own amateur detective operation....you'll find yourself preaching the gospel to a lot tougher crowd for the next 30 years I think the police are very much involved in this case. From what is stated in the letter it is obvious to me the workers are acting in the third party. They will have avoided mentioning the police, etc., to try and make the whole matter easier to take. The laptop and phone etc, will have been seized by the police. The tragedy of this case is of the highest magnitude and I am angry, very angry. Years ago I was the FIRST person on these boards to suggest the workers needed to introduce 'immediate' measures to protect minors and other vulnerable persons from being exposed to the type of behaviour mentioned above. This was at a time when such things were only starting to come out AND were quickly dismissed for various reasons. At that time my main focus was on the trust workers had built up by staying in the homes of unrelated people whom they had spiritual control over. A very powerful tool. At that time I was ridiculed for my suggestions. I cannot believe what I am reading, that an Overseer had his own Best Western Hotel preferred customer account and spent a considerable amount of time and money in motels!!! That's bad enough, considering the homeless ministry proclamations, but to be using such a place for his secret life of sex, forced and otherwise, is beyond contemplation. |

Thanks for posting the letter... Alarming to say the least! The letter was dated March 2023, but he died in June 2022? Sure took them awhile to acknowledge what had been happening. His Obituary was a nice write-up, so I guess the reality of his secret life didn't come about till later?

No it doesn’t sound like they did . However he traveled extensively for years . There could be victims in Canada and elsewhere . As I stated this is going to legal team . We will never know truly how many victims . It’s appalling that you just send a letter to those in his field They didn’t bury it quick enough………………If you are a victim in Canada please report to crime stoppers . You don’t have to give your name . So you can be anonymous if it’s in the best interest of your health and trauma !!!! 🤢🤢🤢 I am seeing red , my anger is at the top level . As I said when I first started here , that if I save one person then my job is done . |

this one seems pretty reliable. I think they're trying to just show the elders the letter and hope it goes away like always. It won't though. Not this time. The workers have this penchant for restricting what's written beyond their reach of control. Whatever they think they're accomplishing -- the way they do it is something like a little kid hiding his peas under the back of his plate, thinking his mother will believe he ate them. |

That letter was given to Elders only , they are subject to charges . They were told to rip it up ! But I got a copy just before they buried that as well FYI all workers in Calgary know about it now . Workers lists are awesome Whom ever sent that message to me , knew I would react legally ! What a disgusting , evil , vile worker . There is a female worker who sexually abused her companion’s . She got kicked out . Her parents died and left everything to her , which she turned over to the overseers and bam she was a worker again . Moved from Saskatchewan to Alberta . It’s not just the men . 5 sister workers left the work because of her . Then we have to add the female worker shared her rape story to me . I loved that lady so much . Dinner at a restaurant would turn into a 3 hour event . Plus I had a senior worker from USA but in Calgary whom turned to me for advice about her companion’s addiction not uncommon Yes I have lived an interesting life with the TRUTH hanging around in the background as I was in charge of my parents . I took them to meetings and conventions and gospel meetings for years . I would arrive in my transit clothes and people were upset . My job was to look after my parents and I didn’t care if they didn’t appreciate my transit pants or shorts in the summer or my tattoos and piercings . They knew my name but called me tattoo/pierced lady . I was actually told at one convention that I could not sit with my dad at elderly people’s table , he was at the table because of his Alzheimer’s and I feed him . I let my mom enjoy her friends , when that happened I walked away . However that was fun ………. But every single day I speak with the elderly people who have known me my entire life . They truly care and I truly love them , one is 94 years old . We message everyday , I love that lady so much . |

ObituaryDean Eldon Bruer was born March 17, 1955, in Fargo, North Dakota to Raymond and Florence (Omdal) Bruer. Dean passed away June 21, 2022. Throughout Dean’s school years, his family lived in Hopkins, Minnesota, where he learned to play the violin. Dean professed on September 9, 1966 and was baptized on September 6, 1970. After high school, Dean completed a two-year collegiate program receiving an Associate of Science degree in Landscape Architecture and certifications as a Civil Engineering Technician and Architectural Technician. In April 1975, Dean and his friend, Verlyn Syverson, traveled to Alaska, a longtime dream of Dean’s. As a result of problems with their van, instead of traveling all the way on the Alaska Highway, they took the ferry from Prince Rupert, Canada, to Juneau. They were unaware there was a convention in Juneau that week. As it was the last ferry before convention, at each stop more of the friends boarded, ultimately totaling 99 headed to convention. After deciding to attend convention, Dean and Verlyn washed dishes with someone who suggested they apply for jobs on the Alaska ferry system where they could work a week and then have a week off to explore Alaska. They helped with teardown at Juneau on Monday, applied with the ferry system on Tuesday, and Dean was working on his first ferry on Thursday. After about five months, Dean changed jobs and went to work as an Associate Civil Engineer. Dean and his friend, Mike Robertson, took a four-month trip from November of 1975 to February of 1976 and visited a number of locations around the Pacific Ocean. Hopefully they weren't dumb enough to destroy the electronics But so far this has all the hallmarks of a coverup. No mention of what organizations victims can contact for help. No mention of "contact Detective so and so if you have been a victim or have information" Just request of "come talk to US" (the workers) Emphasis on how he is no longer in a position to hurt anyone, so case closed! And a letter which claims to display transparency and wants to reach all the victims but is being shown eyes-only to select elders. Yep, just as I feared....half-assed coverup by God's anointed, chosen ones. As mandated reporters they are in some big trouble now. Note that the workers have also now deleted Dean's obituary in addition the the funeral livestream and guest book.   |

The Dean case will have no consequences for Dean. The problem for people now is that the case reveals just how much ONE PERSON can hide from SO MANY people for SO LONG. It implies that ANYTHING IMAGINABLE can be hidden by an awful lot of people in whom full TRUST of TRUTH has been established. |

From the private investigator that is responsible for having the workers hand over the computer to authorities. It was the disclosure of the letter to many exes that contacted family about the letter that finally got the head workers to turn over the laptop to the police. They couldn't hide it anymore from the friends because too many had received the letter. What I just posted is not on the Clackamas County website but is a recommendation from the Sheriffs office to get the contact information out to the friends and ex 2x2's because they don't have a list of all the members. This will make the information available to those who need it faster so those who might have information and/or are victims can have the numbers to call for help or give information. If you have any doubts I would suggest you get a hold of the Clackamas Sheriff's department using the numbers given to make sure it's a real case if you still have doubts that this is really happening. So, my own verifying adventure. I suggest everyone verify this on your own, it's the only right and rational thing to do instead of going by something spread on the internet. Contacted my 2 locals on this. 1 responded quite quickly and thoroughly the other is 2000 miles away. The Letter is legit. Who posted it to the internet is unknown. The Letter was meant for EVERYONE in Oregon but was sent to elders to read to their respective churches, no options on this. So, I was 1/2 right and 1/2 wrong. The Letter has been shared with multiple states how many is unclear and at least Canada, unknown if other countries are included. How every area is addressing it is unknown. WA/ID/AK all workers and elders know of it the laity do not, when I said there was there was no word there has been no word. That may change on Sunday Phone calls are starting to come in. They needed to get on Deans computer and cell to get Truth/2x2 info from it, they then discovered it. When, has not been shared. They told the Oregon Police as required nothing appears hidden. I have no info on if a cell phone was wiped and handed off. Nor as someone "heard" that elders refused to read the letter to their church. (Looked it up myself) There is NO LEGAL requirement to tell anyone other than the Police of abuse except for some states require telling the HEAD of the organization it happened under.(i'm not a lawyer look it up your damn self). Whether that's the over overseers or just that state the crime took place in overseer is not apparent. WA state, There is NO LEGAL requirement for a reporter to even tell a parent about them reporting to LE their child has reported abuse. The obvious reason is the parent(s) may be the abuser(s). It may be the same for other states or not. So, reporting to anyone else besides LE is a VERY MORAL obligation not a legal one. (i'm not a lawyer look it up your damn self). I could find nothing on whether the LE agency takes over and tells other agencies during the investigation or if the reporter must tell every agency other than just the state they are in. There is nothing I could find either that suggests one must report a report of a report of a report of a report that was reported to authorities etc etc...see what I am getting at? If you know different, then speak up. I have no idea whether other countries do the same or not. I would suspect they are similar in some ways and not in others. What we are witnessing is the result of celibacy..... Not necessarily, there are many celibate people who don't engage in sexual promiscuity, and there are married people who have been convicted of CSA. What we are witnessing is perversion. What I don't get is how a Worker could lure underage people to a motel room? Where were the parents? If the first victim had come forth, how many others could have been saved from such abuse?
If any preacher wants to spend some alone time with one of your kids, all kinds of warning lights should start flashing!

Hmm It seems that your verification investigation has only checked that the letter was truly written by the workers and not some bitter ex. But it could still be a fake and conspiracy executed by the current workers. Maybe they had an axe to grind against Dean. Or figure that a made up story will raise their own profile or cover up their own crimes. I think you need to push them relentlessly, make them publish actual evidence if they are going to make these claims publicly. |

Agreed ! We are playing the waiting game . Unfortunately the worker’s have lawyered up . People who are not guilty don’t usually lawyerup quickly . They don’t want any more information coming up . 50 years of that behavior is going to take time . Again if you are a VICTIM please speak if you can . I have provided a ID NUMBER FOR VICTIMS AND YOU CAN REMAIN ANONYMOUS . It is sad that people are terrified if they act . The trauma of a sexual assault stays with you forever . |

Recently Doyle Smith and Scott Rauscher shared some very unfortunate and difficult information with us. We feel it imperative that we share this information with you in an effort to be transparent. We want you to be aware of this situation in Oregon and Montana so that when it comes up in conversation you will know these facts that have come to light in recent days. I would have rather visited each of you in person but time does not allow. We stand with our brethren in these matters. Considering how serious and shocking these facts are, we should be aware that this may deeply affect some of our friends. It would be good if we can be ready with His help to answer and comfort our friends who are trying to understand how this could have happened, and to point them to the One who has the answers. We should also mention the following: • Programs such as the “California Child Abuse Mandated Reporter Training” will help us to understand, recognize, and prevent such problems. • I will send an email to the elders in your fields shortly. They may wish to visit with you. If it makes it easier, they may call me or one of the older brothers on our staff. • We need to be discrete so as not to hurt anyone involved or affected, while in no way allowing any inappropriate behavior to go unreported. • If you learn of any victims, it is important to do your utmost to keep their identities private for their personal protection. Doyle very helpfully concluded his letter with the following paragraph: We sang recently, "All through the storm I see thy face beaming with love and with saving grace." Our desperate prayer for you all, especially anyone that has been hurt, is that G. will show Himself very strong. In Mark 4, the disciples found themselves in the worst storm of their life which caused a lot of distress. But at the conclusion of the storm there was a greater appreciation than ever for the miracle capacity Jesus had to deliver perfect peace despite storms. Our hearts desperately ache for the disappointment and sense of betrayal this will bring to countless hearts and again especially for the pain inflicted to victims. We pray the miracle somehow, someway, someday, will be as great as it was in Mark 4 for all. Keep close to God dear friends. There is an immense capacity in the hand of God to help us. Thank you for all the prayers we know this will generate! |

Reply of Mark Huddle (Overseer of Washington state) to a friend Hi ****, I am very, very sorry about all of this... As far as I know, none of this was known until after Dean died last summer. When he died, none of the other OR workers had a copy of the new OR workers list Dean was working on, and that soon needed to come out. When Doyle was able to access his computer, he was very surprised to find that Dean had been looking at inappropriate material, all adults as far as we know at this point. Doyle didn’t know more until one sister came to him at Boring #2 about herself and Dean. She wasn’t ready for any communication to others at that point, and since Dean was dead, consideration was given to her. As far as I know, other things have only surfaced very recently. It’s Doyle that has initiated communication... and the web sites and internet have picked it up from him. As far as any of us know, all the issues took place in the MT & OR areas. This is why Doyle and Scott chose to contact all the workers and all the friends in those areas. Doyle’s plan was to try to contact with all the people there in person or maybe by phone. Since we don’t know of Dean having any of these issues in our area, we haven’t been as assertive with our communication... and he is dead. Little by little, though, more and more communication with friends is taking place. One doesn’t want to communicate too little, nor too much. The balance is very difficult to find. We want to be honest, but we don’t want to only focus on the negatives, especially in areas outside of our own. Jesus had the perfect balance of communicating about problems without causing loss of confidence in the kingdom. His focus though, was the positive. Some of what is on the internet is true. You have likely seen Doyle’s email. If this involves more than 6-8 people at this point, we are unaware of it... but that is still very sad. I’m not sure if the “message” from the police department is legitimate but we will likely know Monday. In the process of a few days, all the brothers on the West Coast, including our area, will be taking the “Ministry Safe” program or something similar to it. It’s some practical advice on being appropriate for ministers. A number of the sisters also want to take the program. This is the same program that most, if not all, of the Midwest and Eastern brothers in both the USA and Canada have taken. Moses took council from his father-in-law about learning to delegate. He was likely not professing, but it was good council, and he took it. I think this is a good idea for all of us in the ministry. When Jesus was crucified and had laid in the grave for 3 days there wasn’t a thing any doctor or man in any age could have done to even partially restore him, but God was able to give him life and power as great or greater than he had before. With God nothing is impossible. We do believe in the blood of Christ. Jesus believed enough in what his blood could accomplish that he made the great sacrifice to make it available. I wish Dean could have risen above this. The opportunity was there. Maybe something happened at the last that I don’t know about? All of us brothers need to walk farther from the fence. We need to consistently live a long way from the chasm. It can happen. It has to happen. The safe one to focus on is Jesus, not on any man, worker or saint or anyone else. For people that put their faith in the church, they have just had their foundation of life shaken. I can only imagine how they would feel betrayed, in so many ways, even financially knowing they had helped finance such behaviour. They would feel like they have been played. I really feel for you, and the others there Wally. Let's hope that the investigation flushes out any enablers, and the church provides support for the victims. |
