Exactly that's why I advised my kids to take out a loan when they were old enough and then just pay it off to establish a credit rating. Otherwise you just don't have one. However if you have a credit card wouldn't that establish a credit rating if you paid it off all the time? It should. But I've discovered that sometimes if you don't use the card for a period of time, it lapses. It happened for me with a furniture company. I don't know about Visa and Mastercard with that. I just keep cards that work well for me. About every couple of weeks I get a notice in the mail that another credit card company is offering me a credit card. I'm sure I could ruin myself rapidly if I didn't routinely just tear them up. I think they scan credit recording companies to find people who pay their bills reliably. Isn't that the truth. Or the bank where you have a card is upping your credit limit.

I don't have to pay interest charges because I use it and pay every bill as I receive it just to keep it viable. It could come in handy if I ran into an emergency and needed some time to pay it off. Also, it's hard to travel anywhere anymore without a credit card.

** At first my wife just work there, and a book keeper, accounting. I didn't want have anything to do with it for 16 years. They spent more money than what have and got into debts and my wife was using her own credit cards to buy things for the store but her older sister is the owner. Her older sister was terminated by the company, my wife owned too much credit debts. The gas company knew what is going on and let my wife became the new owner. Well, I had to sell my home, quit my job so I can get all of my stocks shares money out and put into the business to pay a lot of her credit cards debts. Looking back, it was the will of God because I love people and care for their souls and the gas station is a perfect place to share the good news with my customers and they enjoy it. People are facing all kinds of challenges in life and I just offer them hope, peace and New home to go to. I show them the location of heaven, their new and temporary home. You are not understanding what I am saying, Nathan. I didn't want a running commentary of your private affairs but good on you for having the business. What I am referring to is, you wrote: "Well, I had to sell my home, quit my job," etc. You say it is your house, not our house. Like I said, in a marriage the house belongs to both husband and wife. You keep calling it your house. Why do you not say our house? Again, I doubt you owned it before you got married as you were in the work before you got married so shouldn't it be yours and your wife not just yours? ** It's our home together... I was speaking as the first person my home but under both of ours names. Her older brother sold the house to both of us! NOT just to me.

That struck a cord. I'm always in trouble for saying MY bedroom. The hubby says he sleeps there too. I never thought of how it came across. When we bought our vehicles a few years ago, we got loans for both of them. We had no debt, so we had no credit rating. (You work hard to pay your bills and that's how you get rewarded?) So, both vehicles were in the hubby's name. I got upset about that and recently paid the vehicles off and had my vehicle put in my name. Made me feel better. I don't know why, but it did. The house is OURS. That I know. Ironically, one doesn't have a "credit rating" if one doesn't establish a credit record. I guess part of your credit rating is a record of how reliable you are at managing your debt. Makes some sense, I guess, with borrowers like chronic bankruptcers working the economy. Exactly. We have a friend with a catering business who goes bankrupt at every opportunity. How he gets anyone to extend him credit is beyond me.

I have one that I use on line and I like to keep it at a low credit amount and they keep trying to give me more credit and I don't want it on that card.

They rarely traveled, but when they did, they paid cash at hotels and didn’t make reservations. Those were, as we now say, the olden days. Till recently, the hubby and I always used bank cards. You can’t spend more than your bank balance. We’ve had our card info stolen a few times. Credit cards are safer in that they often don’t charge if your info is stolen.

** We don't own the Company's property, that is 5 millions dollars. If there is a leak underground gas tanks, it will cost over 1 millions to for the property owner to fix it. We are franchise owners and we can sell or quit anytime. That sister and her husband/Lawyer were appointed as franchise owners but they were too greedy. They were to take care the brothers and sisters, they didn't. They got into lots of debts, they had credit cards business under my wife name and a few of the brothers. I didn't know any of it when I found out it was too late. I had to bail my wife out, quit my job, sold the house, use my stocks money for the business 12 years ago. Bad move! It is beginning to sound like a family with intriguing financial operating systems. This is the same family that produced a puppet South Vietnamese president who ended up being deservedly shot dead because of his despotic ways.

I hear there are differences in how people pay for stuff in the USA. In NZ people pay for their purchases with an EFTPOS card, or swipe their phone. I have not used or seen a cheque for years. Last year I bought a new car and even that was paid for by EFTPOS. Some older people still trot off to the bank to get cash out to pay for crust of bread and soul and it does not hurt to have a stash of cash in case of power outages. But even that may not be necessary as I have seen supermarkets close their doors if they cannot keep the place lit.

Businesses shut down because cash registers don’t work. No access to groceries, gas, hospitals, banking, internet. It’s coming.

I would presume that there are systems in place to stop that happening for any length of time. Businessss have to make a dollar to stay afloat. Banks are kept happy by having money flowing through accounts. Recently an anti vaxxer in NZ who tried to take out the national electrical grid was charged with sabotage and given three years free board and food for his troubles.

I have a travel visa so I pay for everything with it, pay off the balance every month and then take free vacations. It works really well if you like to travel.

I found it awesome one day when I was in McDonald's and this immigrant teen from Zambia was waiting on me. My bill came to $4.25, so I gave him a $5 bill and a quarter. And he promptly replied, "Yes, a dollar weight less than three quarters." I told him I was impressed.
