Banana republics have a similar history of competing laws. How's the banana growing at Mar-a-Lago We’re a Republic. We were set up with State’s rights fir a reason, mainly to keep the Federal Government from being to powerful. Conflicting rules from state to state are a much better way than an iron fisted Federal Government.

Conflicting rules from state to state are a much better way than an iron fisted Federal Government. Many democracies survive quite well without the system that the USA fathers dreamed up. Federal law does not need to be iron fisted. There are plenty of examples of iron fisted state law such as Texas interference in womans rights where a bunch of men have outlawed abortion.

Giving power to the people is fraught with danger. A form of Government that allows the Federal body to have the supreme power is a much better situation. Gun control was brought about by laws made by our Federal Government and it has been very successful. Same law applies in all states. Australia has a mixed system of government; it is a representative democracy and a constitutional monarchy . It is also a federation of states.

I’m sure Democracies work fine for some nations. But, we’re a Republic. It’s kind of hard to just switch over to another type of government. I’m happy with our Republic. Even though it’s a mess right now, I believe things may turn out okay.

Proper Gun control laws work. These figures prove that.
Countries with the Highest Rates of Firearm-Related Suicide (per 100k) in 2019 1. Greenland — 16.36 2. United States — 7.12 3. Uruguay — 4.74 4. San Marino — 4.08 5. Montenegro — 3.40 6. Argentina — 2.67 7. Finland — 2.66 8. Monaco — 2.64 9. France — 2.64 10.Venezuela — 2.50 In contrast to the U.S. and Latin America, gun deaths are extremely rare in countries like Japan, the United Kingdom, Norway, and Australia. These countries have implemented incentives or passed legislation to decrease the number of firearms in circulation. For example, in July 2021, Australia implemented a permanent gun amnesty program, in which unregistered firearms could be anonymously surrendered at police stations.

Suicide isn’t the same as gun violence IMO. I’m not sure why I’m even in this debate, because no one (not even the Federal Government) will ever be able to control guns. Gun rights is too embedded in the American mind.

I find it very surprising that any Christian, would not support the implementation of strict Gun control laws. One of God's commandments is, "Thou shalt not kill".

I am sure the figures I posted would be much the same for murders.

A lot of Christians are conscientious objectors for the reason of ñot bearing arms, so agree very surprising to read of Christian who do not support gun control. Wally, Dan and Rudy, who claim to be Christians are the biggest pro gun supports on here. Flies in the face of the consciousness objectors status of Christians. The figures on gun violence are there for all to see.

The government is aware of the stance of churches that teach its members not to bear arms. What Wally, Dan and I think on the issue shouldn’t affect others. It’s simply that we have a different outlook on the issue.

The government is aware of the stance of churches that teach its members not to bear arms, and is also aware that it’s a minority viewpoint of most Christians. But, the government generally respects their convictions. So, I don’t understand how my viewpoint ‘flies’ in anyone’s face (I’m not even sure what you mean by that) . What Wally, Dan and I think on the issue shouldn’t affect others. It’s simply that we have a different outlook on the issue.

That commandment is speaking of murder. Defending yourself, your neighbor, your family, your friend or a complete stranger is not murder. The rest of the Okd Testament explains all of that.

I have been very careful not to mutilate my draft card because this law is still on the books. " the destruction or mutilation of draft cards carries penalties included fines up to $10,000, and five years in prison." 50 U.S. Code § 3811 - Offenses and penalties

Workers and professing people have applied for CO status in many countries to refrain from going to war. Ive seen one such paper. Religious beliefs are a common reason for CO status.

Since the USA hasn’t had a draft since 1972 or ‘73 (I think but could be wrong), this means that anyone who’s served in the military for the past 50 years have done so voluntarily. There’s been no compulsion from the government.

But then Wally and I come from the same part of the country, are both Conservative, and both believe in the primitive church pattern. I guess you just don’t speak our jargon. 😆 But yes, I understood him.

But then, I've only got a masters degree so what would I know. Against Wally's lack of education, who can beat that? He's always correcting others typos but can't cope when others correct him.
