Does a nose function exactly like a fake mask (you know, the kinds everyone is wearing)? No, it does not. Yes, you can eliminate infection on some level by isolating the human from his environment. But who wants to live like that? No one. Developing the immune system SOCIALLY is how we are intended to live. You want to live like a demon, without real relationship to anyone else, spiritually and physically? I didn’t think so. #1. Face masks are not "fake" masks!
Although even they cannot keep out ALL of any droplets that might carry the virus into your nose they do add one more barrier!
#2. Lee, what you are talking about when you say that "developing the immune system SOCIALLY is how we are intended to live," would just means allowing the virus to go gung-ho until it infects and kills off enough people to reach herd immunity !
#3. Of course people don't like to be isolated from others, of course we don't want to live like that!! But does that need to happen for the rest of our life?
NO! Only until we can reach herd immunity with vaccines!
Now apparently YOU Lee don't mind if herd immunity is reached by letting the virus run it's course as they have done in the past killing way more people than this one has so far, -but I do not see that as the moral stand to take when we now can limit that number of illnesses & deaths by the use of vaccines.
Just as we have limited the number of deaths by the use of "insulin" for diabetes!

Right curly.
I think that that the real reason Dan doesn't get it is simply because Dan seldom seems concerned about the rest of humankind.
This view that he & others have about "individual choice" & "freedom" is just a cover for them to do whatever they want without any concern about how their actions affect their fellowmen.
Although many of these people profess to be "Christians," -they seem to forget the commandment of Jesus on how to treat one's neighbor.
PS: Would they would be happy living in a world where there was no restraints on whatever they wanted to do, -in other words where there were no laws at all? En français on les appelle “gros bébés”. C'est la vie.

No it wasn't and that is not how the law works... Not how the law works? you have to be joking? A women has lost her life because of sheer ignorance and you worry about the law? What about her? There seems to be a great lack of empathy in the American society these day where having a loaded gun is more important than a persons life. She lost her life from negligence and recklessness. The ignorance was the on the part of the child(no fault of theirs). Its not the child's fault its the parents fault. Life is about choices and consequences be careful how you choose it might affect others...

#2. Lee, -what you are really talking about when you say that "developing the immune system SOCIALLY is how we are intended to live," -just means allowing the virus to proceed gung-ho until it infects and kills off enough people that herd immunity is reached! Vaccines help create that herd immunity BEFORE the virus can infect and kill off such a large number of people.
#3. Of course "No one" wants to live isolated from other people! But isn't forever and if people care at all about those other people, -they will discipline themselves and sacrifice a little of what you "want" in the present for the future of everyone else!
#4. What is wrong with science developing a vaccines that has already done a lot toward controlling diseases that have plagued humankind?
Where do think you would be Lee, -if science had not developed insulin to help you control your diabetes?

Just as we have limited the number of deaths by the use of "insulin" for diabetes! It took at least 50 million people to die from the 1918 Virus before herd immunity was established. The USA had a population of 100 million at the time and 675000 died. It has three times the population now. Lee can look forward to around two million people in the USA dying from this one before herd immunity is established, if people follow the recomendations of the rabid right.

Looking on the bright side, half of the population wasn't killed. Why not use your God-given brain to minimise the change of killing those who you socialise with?

*chance *minimize *socialize I understand both minimise and minimize, socialise and socialize are acceptable spelling. Depends what part of the world one lives in. They come up as incorrect by this forums spell checker. Do you not see the little red line under them?

You still don't get it. Vaccination, mask wearing, social distancing is to protect your fellow man, not just you.
What I get is that despite being vaccinated with a 95% efficacy vaccine, you 2 still insist that everyone else wear mask, hide from society, restrict travel, and stop living a normal life. Demanding that your neighbors adhere to restrictions and forgo any resemblance of a normal life just to ease your fears and paranoia is a violation of the commandment. Protect yourself and stop trying to force your neighbor to do it. What's selfish is to impose your desires onto others, especially when it denies them the freedom to make their own choices.

It's probably advisable for you to not visit your grandchildren, if you have any. Children can't get vaccinated yet, and I'm not sure you'd be so proud of yourself if you pass it on to one of them. You do know that the virus is still as deadly as when it began, don't you? But you do have something to be thankful about. You still have the freedom to drive on the left hand side of the road if you decide to -- as long as you're into death defying risk taking.

Wearing seatbelts saves lives. Not walking in the fast lane saves lives. I bet you agree with those. Why are you ok with wearing seatbelts, sticking to the speed limit and driving on the correct side of the road but wearing a mask is such a biggy? I suspect it is your political idealogy that is making a fool of you.

If I had the flu, I wouldn't visit anyone, likewise with covid, that's just common sense. I don't have the freedom to drive on the left hand side of the road, its against the law.
To me, wearing a seat belt is a safety precaution required by law. But wearing a mask when you've been vaccinated is equivalent to wearing a seat belt in a parked car, totally unnecessary.

If you clawed your way out of your echo chamber of misinformation you'd realise that people with Covid are infectious before they know they have it. You'd also know that wearing a mask is largely about protecting others, and vaccinated people can still transmit the virus. You trust the judgement of the authorities who tell you to wear seat belts and which side of the road to drive on, but you don't trust the judgement of those responsible for the nation's health?

Thanks to people like Dan who lacked the discipline to beat the virus overseas, we now have a lockdown in New Zealand.
Most people will comply, without all the cry-baby whining about "attacks on our freedom".

Unfortunately there’s no point. Dan’s perspective represents that of a significant percentage of the population which is stalling the progress of eradication/efficient control of the virus. They cannot see that it is at least partially due to their obstinance that more people are dying and the virus is mutating into a more virulent form - the very reason why we need to keep wearing masks etc. And it really pisses me off. Personally I am grateful for the advances of science that reduce death and heartache - but evidently I am gullible/drinking kool aid. Arghhh!
