Many thanks howitis for all your hard, front-line work and to all the other firies for the same. Very tough job in very tough conditions - admire the spirit of volunteerism. Best wishes to you and your family for a blessed Christmas and hopefully some rain/cooler weather comes as well! Thanks Ross, both us and families are safe at present, hearts go out to those who have lost much, rain forecast for some parts of the state which is great. Dry storms could be a problem in some areas though. Cooler weather probably saved us for now, seems it might warm up again next week, here's hoping we can get enough containment lines in that will hold whilst it's cool. Thanks to all for your well wishes, may you all enjoy the festive season in love, peace and safety xxx

For those interested, from today's news: About 100 homes have been lost in bushfires across New South Wales since Friday, the state's Rural Fire Service says. At least 20 structures are believed to have been destroyed in the small village of Balmoral in the Southern Highlands, a location devastated by the Green Wattle Creek fire. The RFS said at least 829 NSW homes had been lost so far this bushfire season. Bless your heart! This is sure tough for the volunteers. Please do be safe! Thank you so much, we are trying xx

Today we lost another colleague when a truck rolled, 2 more were injured in that accident as well, other injuries in other areas too. Loving thoughts to all families and friends involved, may they find strength to carry on. Thanks to the many who have offered kind words xx

Such dangerous work, do not know how Firies cope day after day. At the moment it seems to be relentless with temperatures in the 40's and strong winds. Weather forecast does not look good for next fortnight. Must be taking its toll on you Howitis, we salute you and your mates.

I saw a picture of some firies giving a poor little koala a drink of water out of their water bottle! It made me feel like crying! I feel so bad for the wildlife who’ve been lost or injured. This is horrible on man and beast both!

It sounds and looks bad, and getting worse in some areas. I recall seeing that 900 homes have been lost so far. Stay safe and take care.

Any news on Mallacoota and the Bega/Batemans Bay area please. Especially the beach areas like Pretty, Depot and Pebbly.

Batemans Bay in big trouble at the moment, people have been told to leave their homes, and go to the beach. The live pictures on TV are frightening.
We just hope that Howitis is OK.

Thankyou Redback. It does not look good at all. I used to holiday quite a bit in mallacoota, also Depot Beach. I see Queenbeyan and Braidwood may also be in the firing line. The fire has no knowledge whether a town is historic or not. It just keeps going.

Just terrible for the people involved. Hope they are ok through the night. We are so concerned for all.

Just terrible for the people involved. Hope they are ok through the night. We are so concerned for all. For weeks our skies have been quite hazy. I think it has also affected our weather here with a much cooler December and loads more rain. Mt Cook Village had over a metre one week at the beginning of December. The particulate in the air may be cooling the atmosphere but that is just an uneducated guess. Stay safe my AUS friends and look after yourselves and your whanau.

4000 Aussies stranded on beach after wildfires drove them there. This is horrible! Didn’t seem like our recent California wildfires was that bad!

Said Prime Minister planned to evacuate them by water! I would think that’s the only way! Bless their heart! I hope Howitis is okay! They’ve got to be sooo tired. I hope the firefighters from other countries are there ASAP!

I heard a rumour from a home owner at Mallacoota that a substantial number of properties are gone. But they are on the beach and only guessing at what the town is like. Fingers crossed for them. Here in Aotearoa the sky is very murky with smoke and we are 2000km away.

The problem is that the roads in and out of Mallacoota are all closed. The only way out is by sea.
It was a lovely Village, my Mum and Dad used to go there for a couple of weeks each year fishing. Dad reckoned it was the best place to catch Southern Salmon. Great fish to eat.

I am picking that the wildlife loss in the area will be huge. The bird life there was fabulous. But too many eastern browns for my liking. Then the road from Genoa westwards is closed as well. I hear as far west as Lakes Entrance.

I would think the eastern browns would have headed for the beach also.
