LDS, JW, and SDA all seem to have little money problems much like the CCC. Having an exclusive on salvation seems to help the donations.

And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves. And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them. IN THE TEMPLE IN THE TEMPLE Not in the living room of a house. Jesus was born IN A STABLE, IN A STABLE Not in a maternity ward at a hospital Does that mean the every christian child should be born in a stable?

Sure, Jesus went into the existing temple to teach, heal, etc......... But the early Christian churches had divine fellowship in the home. They did not build new temples/buildings for the purpose of divine worship, and then demand the members to pay off that debt.
Jesus went everywhere. He went on ships, to the plain, on the mount to the garden. Where did he go to pray most often, that we read in the Bible..........he went away from the multitude to a place of solitude; usually outside somewhere.
What/how did he command His disciples to go about it?

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Jesus did not command to go out 2x2 and meet in homes. He never did. NEVER EVER All things...... that's a tall order. Are you absolutly sure, beyond any shadow of a doubt. Remember not all things that Jesus commanded and taught are recorded. Whether it is in the Bible or not it was practiced. A church in the home was practiced but no mention of a command in writting. Doesn't mean to say that it is not the wish of God that His children that this be the practice. The same goes for the other.

So what's wrong with denominational churches managing their finances their way...and the 2x2 church handling finances their way. Is it wrong if different groups operate in different ways?

...or going further...is it WRONG to meet in homes, & halls, and conventions? Is it WRONG for there to be itinerant preachers going out two & two? I think that there can be "different strokes for different folks" without anybody being WRONG.
The only things that I find fault with is the 2x2 attitude of you must be one of us to be saved, and you must do just as we do in order to be saved. And, yes, their is the legalistic dress code that is completely unwarranted.

to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you Of all the commandments that Jesus spoke of, the ones that 2x2 teaching disregards the most likely are those in Matthew 22:37-38. Jesus actually said that these encompassed the entire scope of the demands of our heavenly father. Edgar Matt 22:37-40 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. [38] This is the first and great commandment. [39] And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. [40] On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

There is a program running on British TV at the moment called 'Priest Idol' (Pop Idol word play). It is the true and ongoing story of a British northern town which has just one church left with a congregation of seven people on a good Sunday. They advertised for a minister and the only brave taker is a young American pastor who had full attendance in America.
The trials and tribulations of this young man, up against breathtaking indifference when he tries to talk to the townspeople were touching. He wore himself out visiting bars, schools, marketplaces etc and on his very first Sunday morning, his parents over here to support him, he increased his congregation to ten (including the parents).
So he has decided to 'market' religion like a brand of anything commercial. In the face of scorn from the Anglican superiors and incredulous hostility from the band of elderly lady church wardens, this PR company visited the town, talked to the residents about what would bring them into church, and eventually have come up with the marketing name of 'Church Lite' ie not so hard to digest.
The church has been painted, furniture rearranged (it took a battle to get the font moved) a quiet area established with lighted pebbles and all things modern. He has taken singing lessons and even the advice of a standup comedian on how to interest people in what he is saying.
Somehow you want him to succeed, even as you wonder if he is doing the right thing. I cannot wait to see the next episode....................

No, of course I don't mind your asking. I looked at the title of this thread 'God's True Servants' and this was the thought in my head as I watched this program. So many servants doing so many different things which they are convinced are God's will. None can doubt their sincerity nor the effort which they put in and hence the relevance to the title of this thread. Personally, I am so glad God will be the judge of who is his true servant and not some here who are so aggressive and unkind to each other. Each thread seems to disintegrate into one liners trying to score or hurt the other, often the same people.
Pax vobiscum.

Marie
I think the Church is a Catholic one. Although the program makers have been quite deliberate in avoiding saying the name of a denomination, its RCC for sure. This does not make it any less valid, or any less interesting.
Clues: Cross figures strongly, crosses everywhere. Stations of the Cross round the church. Priest uniform. Chalice design. Surplus designs. Parish council arrangements. Boss's ring (Archdeacon or Archbishop?) Priestly celibacy. (not stated, but no wife apparent for all three).
That said, its a fascinating issue.

I think the church is high Anglican, but you are right, they are careful to avoid saying exactly what they are. It is very hard to differentiate between high Anglican and Catholic now that Latin has been removed from the latter.
