The way most boys dress for swimming. You mean when they wear budgie smugglers? I haven't seen too many teenage boys wearing only budgie smugglers. I doubt this is the way most boys dress for swimming.

I would agree ellie, I have never gathered statistics on this..... but I doubt I have seen someone wearing one in years. I swim frequently both in the sea and in the lakes up here in the mountains and everyone is well dressed including the naked people.

Hmmm....the available research indicates many negative trends.
- distorted perceptions and beliefs about relationships and sexuality - devaluation of marriage and child-rearing - increased aggression and trivialisation of criminal behaviour (eg rape) - Increased risk for sexual deviancy, experiencing negative intimate relationships and accepting rape myths
All of your list that you see as problems are problems only in the eye of the beholder. I have lived many years more than you.
Where you see problems, I see an increased awareness & progress in understanding and accepting what is a normal sexuality. - distorted perceptions and beliefs about relationships and sexuality
We have learned and accepted that sexuality is normal part of being human, nothing to be ashamed, can be discussed in the open and by doing so we better understood & increase the pleasure of being alive.
- devaluation of marriage and child-rearingActually, I see that marriage is NOT devalued. In the past people HAD to be married if they lived together whether it was a happy marriage or not. Now, they can inter into marriage with a better understanding of what marriage really means and actually value marriage MORE
As for child-rearing, I admire the kind, supportive way most young couples treat their children today. I'm not sure if perhaps with birth control they have more choices as to how many & when they want a family, rather than the way we had in my generation when we had to just let happen, happen! - i ncreased aggression and trivialisation of criminal behaviour (eg rape)
This is blatantly NOT true about rape! In my day, you couldn't talk about it, couldn't do anything about it, and just took whatever consquences that happened!
- Increased risk for sexual deviancy, experiencing negative intimate relationships and accepting rape myths
Same with his one! Not true! What sexual deviancies do you mean,-homosexuality? That isn't a deviancy! The deviancy part is only what is in your own mind!
As for "accepting rape myths" we are far less accepting such myths now!
As for all your research stats, I am sure all those same issues existed in my day but no one talked about them. No one talked about sex in general, let alone doing any research on the subject.

My original post was on the social impacts of pornography which is now available without restriction at the touch of a key to all ages, whether children or adults. Whilst I hold particular opinions on it I am interested in research on its impacts. I quoted particular research from one study which indicates a significant negative impact. I was not talking about birth control, homosexuality etc. I'm interested in a rational discussion on it. I'm not interested in being told that some "deviancy" is in my mind that I wasn't even writing about. Here might be a starting point.Another stepping stone.Interesting popular media article.Wikipedia with links to the original articles. She could claim to be omniscient. Would you believe her without some proof? Can you see where this might lead?

You may be older and wiser, as you intimate, but you can't read my mind unless you have supernatural powers. Agreed in full. There are many studies about the very effects of pornography, particularly on young males. Japan is a place where some of the most pronounced impacts have been manifest on a large scale. Some negative effects: 1) warped sense of what a normal sex act comprises of 2) inability to see the other partner as a person with equal sexual needs 3) extremely pre-mature sexual release 4) decrease in desire to pursue a human intimate relationship 5) decrease in overall fertility rates

That's a very wise prediction. The impact on fertility rates is sufficient enough to have it banned.

After reading so many of your posts, I can fairly well understand you as to where you are coming from.
I believe that many people are so hung up about sex that they see porn in many places where it doesn't exist.

Actually, if you took an "o" out of your online name it would read Dmichgod so you could cast your supernatural powers on all those who post on TMB! Agree that we should be able to talk sensibly about any aspect of human sexuality. I think when we were growing up that we were more confused after a sex education session at school than before it. No, can't take the other "o" out. That part stands for "good" but I don't think that you would guess why! Well, your generation were lucky to at least get valid sex ed. My generation had to do a lot of guessing.

Of course I can. It will lead to lots of blue writing :) I'll have a look at the articles although as you know I wouldn't use Wikipedia as a reference source due to its unreliability. I only included the wikipedia link because it contains a number of references to the original research.
