Violence No, but a love tap to get their attention when verbal correction fails is good. Not every child needs it, but when all else fails, they generally respond to physical correction. "For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth." (Proverbs 3:12, Hebrews 12:6) Its good that your kids grew-up to be good people despite your unwillingness to correct them, but what if they hadn't? When I was young, I once saw another kid take a swing at a teacher, and another time heard my friend tell his mother to go F herself... The reason I could never imagine ever doing something like that is because my Dad would have knocked me on my butt. Its the same reason I'd never loot or firebomb a store, my parents did not spare the rod and spoil the child.
OK, Dan!
Let's get something straight right now to start with!
Just where are you getting your claim of my "unwillingness to correct" my children ?" Sorry, but you seemed to indicate that you didn't spank your kids, so I presumed they went uncorrected.
As to your claim that "when all else fails, they generally respond to physical correction," -just means the parent who is older and should be more knowledgeable than the child is the "one that failed" to find a better way of teaching the child. Doesn't sound like you've ever had to deal with an unruly child. I agree that its best to verbally correct them, but what do you do when they tell you to F-off and then slap you upside the head? I agree that sending a kid to their room might be a more civilized punishment, but what do you do when you say "Go to your room" and they say "No"?
Being a good role model is by far the best way to teach a child and my husband was a very good role model for our sons. You were lucky to have had good kids who responded and learned, but not everyone has that same luxury.
Was YOUR Dad? Sure

It's the age old mistake of mistaking punishment for correction.

I was another that got the crap thrashed out of him as a child. Don't blame me for that, it certainly wasn't my decision to absolutely flay me with a leather belt on occasions, that was the decision of my 2x2 father. We were also whipped with a cane at High School, (maximum 6 times in one go) enough to leave clear bruises for over a week. And wether it was right or wrong, it certainly helped to install some hardwiring for life. I am friends with members of a local 1% biker gang. One of them confided to me recently "biker gangs wouldn't exist if little boys got hugs instead of beatings" Exactly. Very insightful.

Ok, -let's take it from the beginning, -once more! One issue is that you seem to presume a lot.
Such as presuming that since I "didn't spank my children that you presumed they went uncorrected. Like your presuming I never had to deal with an unruly child.
Maybe it was myself who I wasn't clear enough about what I meant when I said:
"Actually, I know that from experience because I was in that same position myself once.\ I knew that spanking was absolutely NOT the way the I had wanted to raise my son!"
I WAS SPANKING MY SON! -but that was not how I wanted to raise my son by spanking him! He seemed to be always getting into trouble at school!
Is that clear now?
But because I did not want to spank my dear little son, I looked for and found a much more loving, caring way to deal with the situation of "correcting" his behavior but it actually took the form of my being willing to change MY OWN behavior.
There was an incident at school that I will always remember when I suddenly realized - Hey! wow! -what I had been learning from those workshops was actually working! No more spankings ever!

lady puts gas in plastic Bag -at least she double bagged it!
I do hope she made it home without a leak in that sack!
I did something crazy myself yesterday.
Poured some gas that was left over from the winter into juice jar then used it "assist" in burning dead weed piles. Works. But I wouldn't advise it to an amateur!

Glad you are OK. I've singed some hair doing the same. Two common mistakes with handling gas; Filling up a hot small engine like a lawn mower. Hot muffler can ignite the gas. Filling a plastic gas can and NOT putting it on the ground. A static electric spark can ignite the can.

One certainly needs to respect gasoline! -it doesn't take much gas to just sort of explodes into flame!
So if you are burning something you need a long distance from between you & the material. That means a long stick, -never with just a small kitchen match!

how to become a rich BLM co-founder by Patrisse Khan-Cullors:
1. help start a black organization that doesn't help black people. 2. call all white people racists and tell them you are oppressed to get them to donate 90 million to your organization. 3. spend 3.2 million(4 homes)of it on yourself instead of other black people. 4. call them racists if they call you out on it.
