I am really puzzled as to why this irrelevant exchange is going on in this thread. Can we get back to the topic. It's a message board. Stuff happens. Yes, it does. I'm still trying to figure out if I lost my horse or if I found a saddle. Alvin

more free than the girl who aspires to pick up Stu's laundry true, but it seems that it was a 'free choice' decision. is the point of the vid to call attention to 'dangerous cults' or to poke a little fun at the choices , when there aren't many choices to choose from?? ....surely it was taped in jest???

Next time post up a funny video, What. Never pain my son and me for a whole 8 1/2 minutes like that again I never made it that far myself. You are obviously a glutton for punishment. The clip's merits are more out of relevance to topic than its funniness. However, I hate to disappoint a man with a taste for humour, so in order to atone myself here is a clip featuring Hugh, not Stu. And so we go from stew to Stu to Hugh. (The clip gets funnier on repeated viewings.)

Made me remember the 6 way phone call during the days of party line telephones...I used to remember that whole ditty and never could tell it without dying laughing! "tudo, tudo, tudo!"

I've noticed that sometimes people don't "get" where this is going the first time around, although often they do. But all the same, I have watched this 10 times at least, and it cracks me up every time. It's not only funny, but also masterful comedy. Lee, as a man who obviously likes a good laugh, here's a few things to search out on youtube: "Autotune the news turtle fence", "Literal assassin's creed", "idiot abroad china".

I have concluded that this thread has reached the end of its shelf life. Thanks to all who contributed. As in every thread some contributions were more helpful than others but the question certainly got attention! It is now onwards with my research and almost time to start drawing conclusions. Thanks again and a very happy and blessed Christmas to you all.

Thanks again and a very happy and blessed Christmas to you all. Thanks Irvine. I believe people benefit profoundly from having an abundance of information and to be stubbornly reminded that the freedom to think is an inalienable freedom. As this assumption is implied in every earnest, academic effort, I trust yours will be no exception. Merry Christmas! ~~~ You have probably already been mailed or have otherwise acquired a substantial body of the concerns regarding the 2x2 sect in the form of books, pamphlets and Internet articles. If not, I would be happy to assist you.
I previously mentioned the tread title "IS THE 2X2 MOVEMENT A CULT" appeared on the TMB before and the content there might be useful in your research.
The question would be met with no less contention, but the scope could be contained by asking "IS THE 2X2 MOVEMENT A CHRISTIAN MOVEMENT?"

Thanks SharonW for your kind comments and Christmas wishes. As we approach Christmas we should be careful to seek the Giver and not just the gift. In his book, God and the Gospel,John Piper writes: All the saving events and all the saving blessings of the gospel are a means of getting obstacles out of the way so that we might know and enjoy God most fully. Propitiation, redemption, forgiveness, imputation, sanctification, liberation, healing, heaven – none of these is good news except for one reason: they bring us to God for our everlasting enjoyment of him. If we believe all these things have happened to us, but we do not embrace them for the sake of getting to God, they have not happened to us. Christ did not die to forgive sinners who go on treasuring anything above seeing and savouring God. And people who would be happy in heaven if Christ were not there, will not be there. The gospel is not a way to get people to heaven; it is a way to get people to God. It’s a way of overcoming every obstacle to everlasting joy in God. If we don’t want God above all things, we have not been converted by the gospel.

All of us can be guilty of taking ourselves too seriously, whether this is born of ignorance, pride, or unfaced-fears.

Egad. Heaven help us. The Impartial Reporter incarnate reviews the friends and workers. Hopefully Irvine Grey will disregard your advice completely but I'm not so sure. He has not been forthcoming with his personal views, so who knows. Jump and dodge whenever asked a direct question.

It's difficult to do without appearing blasphemous however. All the same I'm getting quite a funny picture from your suggestion.

Do religious & secular criteria for cult status agree...or is cult status usually determined by evangelicals against the so-called "orthodox Christian" litmus test?

Yes, I know your opinion of Irvine Grey...it became very evident on the first page of the thread...his use of the word "cult" sent you into orbit....which is particularly not like you to be so unreasonable.....I think the question stated on the name of this thread was simply a way of getting "opinions" as well as what others have experienced" I actually feel for IG for he has to sort through and find that which he's knowing he's looking for!

Sharon When folks ask where you have worshipped previously and the c word used by others and sometimes ourselves comes up it does seems to light a fire in some. Whats reaction is not so unusual. I sometimes have difficulty admitting to being duped for so long. Still love the friends but not the system that uses fear to keep folks obedient. Ken
