Why do we (F&W) insist on following the words of Paul on things such as dress attire, hair, etc......however, the women do not keep silent in the church? I know his words in some situations were addressing issues of that day, but why do we pick and choose "which" of his words to follow if he is speaking for God?

The workers quote Acts 2:17 as a reason for women to preach:
Acts 2
17 ‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy
But prophesying isn't the same as preaching.

Yes apple, It is confusing to me. Paul specifically says that women are to keep silent. That is pretty darn clear.......no trying to decipher what is being said there.

It sounds like a contradiction, but Paul's own example was that he called Priscilla a fellow worker with him. You have to know something about Jewish behavior in synagogues to know why he would tell them to be quiet in church. Synagogue is men's business, and the women have historically and still are notorious for gossiping in synagogue to the annoyance/disturbance of the men's business. A Jewish rabbi I studied with told me that, and Paul obviously didn't want that happening in "Christian" services.

Who's this Paul person that such credence and importance should be given to him? Paul is largely responsible for making Jesus "the Christ".

Christ ? The anointed one? I would have thought it was the power of God that made him who he is. The holy spirit the power of the godhead. "Endued with power from on high" It was after this that Jesus performed the miracles. Many entered the kingdom.

Women in silence?
Might pay to check out all the women in scripture that were used by god. Instead of hanging off the words of Paul. Jesus loved women. He wasnt threatened by them.

Who said anything about women being used by God? This was about women being silent in church. Of course, some women seem to think they have to be talking all the time to fulfill their purpose, I guess.

The point is, Jesus wasn't the first one to perform those miracles. And as educated as Paul was supposed to be, he knew that was so. Ironically, Paul never read the 4 Christian gospels.

Paul was referring to women being silent in the synagoe. Its not different than him saying keep silent in the church. Paul and I would have clashed.

I don't think you read what I wrote carefully enough. Paul didn't want the women gossiping and visiting and disturbing the services. I also said that Paul had at one point a "woman" companion. You would probably like Paul more than Jesus.

Men do their share of talking and have to put women down when they talk? It's not really. It's a poke at women who, by their own admission, believe they can be excused for talking for the sake of talking, when and where they feel like it, and whether they're listening to the people they're talking to or not. I didn't have you in mind. In fact, I really don't know many women like that at all. Paul didn't like them doing that in church -- it was disruptive to the service.

Mary
Hes probably referring to a flipant comment I made a while back about women needing to speak 3000 words a day. As a result other daft comments were made about no thought to my statements and no substance. Lol I can live with that.

From Wiki: "Audiobooks are recommended to be 150–160 words per minute, which is the range that people comfortably hear and vocalize words." Which means that women typically speak at a rate of 300 to 320 words per minute. Multiply that by 18 hours (that includes that insufferable "pillow-talk") and you have women speaking at a rate of at least 324,000 words per day. Or 3,000 if she's sulking.
