Mary Hes probably referring to a flipant comment I made a while back about women needing to speak 3000 words a day. As a result other daft comments were made about no thought to my statements and no substance. Lol I can live with that. 3000, is there a man that can count that high?

"Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law."
I was taught that the reason Paul made such a statement was because certain women in a certain community were being argumentative and questioning what was being taught. If there were any questions or discussions to be made, they belonged in the home. Also, a wife was under a husband's rule and authority and any questions were to be put to him. I can only imagine there was a lot of questions considering the teachings of Paul were not the teachings of the Jewish faith and would therefore cause a lot of upset and disagreement.

Here is how the Georgia overseer explains it...he mentions how the passage refers to their husbands...and then he asks "how about single women" could they speak"? He mentions that no church would have all married women as there would be widows and single unmarried women. He believes it was directed at some specific married women who were discussing with the church certain things they should have been discussing at home.

We were told in a Gospel mtg a couple of weeks ago that women could speak and share in the mtgs, but that decisions in the 'church of which Christ is the head' were for men to make, women should have no part in that...

And the world wonders why so many men think it's their God given right to dominate women.

Why wold the world wonder about this? It is a right actually given by god. How can a non existent being hand out rights? I was not clear. It is a right given by the god described in the bible. If you believe in that god and the bible you have god given rights. Ask any king!

Who's this Paul person that such credence and importance should be given to him? i take it your being sarcastic here..but i'll play... Paul is one of Christ great success stories he was an enemy of the church and Christ converted him into a follower... Then Paul reciprocated by making Jesus the Christ.

Women in silence? Might pay to check out all the women in scripture that were used by god. Instead of hanging off the words of Paul. Jesus loved women. He wasnt threatened by them. Who said anything about women being used by God? This was about women being silent in church. Of course, some women seem to think they have to be talking all the time to fulfill their purpose, I guess.

Well now, doesn't that sound so familiar! Which also explains why the group is in such a mess, the women have no say?
