Our kids can't do sports, but yet the workers go hunting. Isn't hunting and fishing a sport? well, now, I dunno. I went the other day an outdoor store. This is what I saw: you build a deer blind then feed the deer next to it all summer. You spray yourself down with female deer juice and buy a plastic deer dummy to set up next to the place you used to feed them. When they show up, you shoot them with a high-powered rifle. so, well, um... that doesn't sound like a sport to me... that sounds more like shooting the family pet. My husband tells me it's more complicated than that. But whatever. *grin* For the record... I don't have anything against hunting. Deer have very few natural predators left and if the population wasn't thinned out, they would over-increase and the deer would starve and/or eat all the bark off the trees. As long as the hunters are eating the meat they are killing, I don't have an issue with it. But, a sport? IMO, it's more of a way for men to bond or to relax or to just be men. I guess women hunt too so that sounds kinda sexist, but I think more men hunt than women. Maybe they need to get away from normal everyday life so they can chill for a bit and de-stress. Many (most?) 2x2 kids these days, at least the ones around here, are allowed to play sports. I don't ever think it's a good idea to over-extend your family time and resources, but for some kids sports are exactly what they need. I'm glad to see that man-made rule go by the wayside. I guess this is kinda a thread hijack. As for the original question, I agree with Selah: the focus should be on God. peace, freespirit

You can't even discuss grace in meeting, so how on earth does one think you can get away with speaking about WI?

free spirit,
I could just go "ditto" to most of everything you say...
Anyways: like you, I don't see shooting the Bambi's as any kind of "sport". And with all the accuracy and power of the guns they have today....I don't even see it as a skill--
Plus, to me, it simply another senseless form of the taking of innocent and harmless life, caused by the stupidity and cruelty of heartless, and foolish men!
Who won't be satisfied until they've completely destroyed all the beauty and good to be found in this wonderful world God gave us (so freely) to enjoy (and find pleasure and relaxation in).
Yep, this area is my pet peeve--and I would like to see what wildlife we haven't killed destroyed and depleted by such things as pollutions, over-fishing, and killing, etc, come to an end. However, guess that won't happen until the destroyer of all the good things of God is done away with...
Anyways: for the record: I have yet to hear a single person bring up WI's name and the full history given, with full admission to it that we had a founder just like all the other churches around today.
For many older folks (who have always believed otherwise) I suppose such an admission would be too disturbing. But--meanwhile--for those who do know about WI--hearing statements making us otherwise (continuous unbroken line: and the only ones established by Jesus himself) there is also a disturbing...of OUR peace...and the love that we have for truth.
(Poor workers....and poor believers...caught so inbetween). However, with time, I suppose it'll all work out...eventually...(sigh)...

as I c it:
A bumbersticker I saw recently:
Only When The Last Tree Has Died & The Last River Has Been Poisoned & The Last Fish Has Been Caught Will We Realize That We Cannot Eat Money -Cree Indian Prophecy
Personally, I was dismayed to see the change from regular trays and plates to those horrid Styrofoam ones at convention. The amount of trash we generate!!! It's deplorable.
If we can't use real plates, why not at least ones made of 100% recycled paper? Or even regular paper? Or recyclable ones? Why must we forever entomb our leftovers from convention in the earth?
And, besides that, I thought it was good for the kids to pitch in with the work that needed done and help with the dishes. What are we teaching our kids--to be wasteful, to not care about the land or future generations, that it is okay to be selfish, abusive and careless...all in the name of God?
This is one thing the German convention really had "right." I didn't feel like I was killing the environment by going there because they were so conscious about recycling and reusing things. They were being good stewards over the things God had given them to use.
And, again, for the record, I'm not about living too far one direction or the other. I want to live in balance.
But permanently embalming convention leftovers--at LEAST 12,000 non-biodegradable trays/plates and cheap plastic silverware per convention--just doesn't seem right to me. And then, there are the cups, paper towels, etc. Bags and bags of waste.
Is that REALLY what we want to use our spare land for? For trash dumps?
Genesis 2:15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
to keep it.... not to trash it!
Isaiah 5:8 Woe unto them that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no place, that they may be placed alone in the midst of the earth!
peace to all, freespirit

freespirit, I love the bumpersticker! So true...probably...in what it says.. Meanwhile, don't worry about them completely polluting the earth. I believe I read somewhere that they're now starting to dump a lot of garbage into outer space, instead...which, I'm sure, means that we don't have to worry about the effects of them polluting our environment anymore... Well, until it all comes crashing back down to planet Earth... Anyways, I love to read Genesis: and see around me, wherever I look--all the beauty, and the goodness of God, given in such abundance--unto man. And agree with you....they should quit trashing it! Now, I guess we'd better let this thread return to its original topic...But--sure good talking to you!

Burn the trash then it isn't filling the landfills.
BTW recycling doesn't prevent pollution, it just changes it's form - turn a newspaper into toilet paper - the byproduct is chemicals that go into the environment. Recycling is robbing Peter to pay Paul. Take a closer look at the propaganda you get fed. Not everything is as it appears.

You may take the bambies any way you want...
I have hit so many of them I quit counting... and it makes me tremble with rage when I think of the money they have cost me in repair bills.
I am only thankful that my insurance company can not cancel me because of these kinds of accidents as long as I pay my bill.

I think burning paper is a great idea. In fact, if we were all sitting around the bonfire in the evening singing songs, I would think it was way cool. If we could do some drumming and dancing, I'd really like it. ;D But somehow I think that this isn't going to happen in my lifetime. LOL! I'm not crazy about the idea of landfilling paper, but all the same, it does compost and goes back to dirt. But that's not what the convention is doing. They buy Styrofoam. Landfill it. More Styrofoam. Landfill it. More Styrofoam. 12,000 plates worth. It's wasteful. Anyhow, yes, you are right recycling does take energy --but less energy than making something new. For paper it's about 50% less to use paper to make paper rather than new tree pulp. I've heard up to 80% but I'm a little leery of that number. Here are some stats from this site: members.aol.com/ramola15/funfacts.html#paperEach ton (2000 pounds) of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill space, 4000 kilowatts of energy, and 7000 gallons of water. I personally would love to see America a little less dependent on foreign oil. But that's just me. That doesn't really fit into this conversation. Or any of my other "buy American" ideas. Reusing IMO is the best option. I liked the old trays that we used for years and years. And those plastic forks aren't exactly fun to eat with either. I hate that stuff; it doesn't feel good in your fingers. For the record, I'm not really that into environmental stuff. Trash is just one of my pet peeves because we've become a throw away society. How do we teach our kids to keep their marriages when we can't even teach them to be responsible with a eating dish? I'll shut up now. My life is far from being green--I mean basically I use canvas bags to pick up my cheap, plastic, lead-painted crap from China--so it's rather easy to pick ME apart. This is just one area that we could maybe probably come up a little higher in IMO. But, I suppose, given that the workers are feeling up little girls, I guess we have bigger fish to fry at the moment. And M, I was just joshin' and making a commentary--just being my usual irreverent self. I don't have any issues with responsible hunting (as long as the meat is being eaten and the deer aren't killed out of season). The deer don't really have many natural preditors any more and if the population wasn't thinned out, they would starve over the winter and eat the bark off the trees. peace, freespirit

2 chicken little, Haven't you noticed??? This whole planet is one big recycling place.... Round and round it all goes...never disappearing, but just changing its form... And one of those days...according to Revelation, even the stars are going to fall out of the sky...(with it....maybe... ?...) And when that happens, this chicken little will be making more like a duck...duck...Ducccck!!!!

wanttobewithgod,,
Deja vu!!! How very strange! Just the other day I happened to overhear Mama Bear telling Baby Bear exactly the same thing!
"Honeybear, there's nothing malicious about it...Just try a wee taste of the hunter...God gave us a year round license to eat them & the meat is so yummy! Besides, if we don't free their spirit they'll just cut down all the trees, and move in beside us...and next thing you know...there'll go our neighborhood!"
Now, I've heard chocolate worms taste mighty good! Why not eat them (before they eat you...)! Now THAT even I'd approve of...cause..it's just some good old justice!

wanttobewithgod, It's okay. No one has made me dictator of the world ...yet...so every body can do whatever they want (with their bodies) and time... But the day they DO...then...it'll be "goodbye guns": and the animals turn to feast! (And just my small way of helping mankind to learn to pray to God with true sincerity....) My halo is just shining so brightly....makes me wonder if we're having a full moon tonight! (I hope I haven't really hurt your feelings M. I was just having some fun with you. Hunters have the right to hunt: and I have the right to hope they don't get anything! So let not our differing feelings on this subject disturb the peace and good-feelings between us).

Of course not, as I c it. As I said, it's just more that I grew up with it and my family still does it than my own feelings on the subject. I would just as soon they miss too, to be honest. But..shhhh. M. PS..on the other hand though, I also believe in the circle of life..and that God made animals for that very purpose...but..I know what you mean. M.

I know (sigh) M. It's the reality of life--since Eden. And since God first shed the blood of the first innocent animal in order to clothe Adam and Eve after they sinned. And I won't tell your daddy what you said. (What you have written in private will stay just between you and me! Mum's the word!)

It's okay, wannabe,( sheeesh!!) Judging from the other thread (which is all about you)--YOU don't even know who YOU really are! But (fortunately) there are some who appear to be trying to help you....lol!!! And WI (judging from the letter of his, now re-posted here once again on the internet) didn't seem to know who he was either! (Apparently he thought he was one of the prophets referred to in Revelation). So if you don't know who I am, that's okay with me...(I think I still know, maybe ???who I might be...)

I can't recall having ever being in a meeting when "grace" was not mentioned. I will listen more intently in future, just in case. Should I encounter such a meeting I will post the details on the TMB
