I think, perhaps, you misunderstood what I wrote. ...whether intentionally or unintentionally. M.

Nice try to what? I think you did misunderstand, intentionally, as I never said anything about drinking, smoking or cussing to GET to heaven. but you know what they say about battles of wits with unarmed people...so here I stop, and have failed in my quest to be nicer here today. Ah well. Better luck to me tomorrow! M.

hymn 363 Adam Hutchison (1873-1925) Scot. Adam went into the work in 1902. He laboured in England and Australia, and pioneered the work in India and Burma.
He must have been one of the first workers?

Why don't you go back and read it again...and work on the comprehension angle this time...not just the meaning of words. M. I went back hours ago, btw, and read it again just to make sure. While I could have worded it better, the meaning is still clear.

I'm only going to give my opinion..not necessarily that of anyone raised in the 2x2 religion, what they believe or whathaveyou..just..mine. I do believe we are saved by grace and ALSO by following the example Jesus set for us. I don't believe we are automatically saved and we can just do as we wish and will remain that way, no. When I raised this question before, someone basically said if you love God you will not be doing those things anyway...not true, at least all the time. I do love God...no one can argue that to me. I LOVE GOD, period. That said, I am VERY far from perfect, do things I am ashamed of at times, and am very, VERY far from Jesus' perfect example. So...not always true. Good works...volunteering, being a good person, etc etc..will not get you into the kingdom of Heaven, no. But, IMO, nor will doing anything you want to do (smoking, drinking, cussing, ignoring the example of Jesus entirely.) We must set our face like flint to go on all the way.....flint..meaning, hard/unyielding. This, to me, means we must not soften to our own wants and desires, but set our "faces" (meaning our hearts, our desires, etc) in determination to keep on doing God's will and not our own. It is hymn number 363 in my hymn book, but no author is given. M. wtbwg, I think that we are saved solely by His grace--that work of salvation done by Jesus is perfect and finished and complete. But I think that we live by grace too. We don't have to face life alone. God wants to call us into blessing--to guide us and keep us and heal us. IMO, this matter of walking with God is not about stuff we give up, but about stuff we gain--it's not a matter of works (ie doing things for God) but about what God can do for us--way down deep on the inside. This is one of the reasons I think that the bible says things about God judging the heart. There may be two people doing exactly the same thing--both good outward things: say, making a meal for their family--and one has been inspired by the grace of God to show more love, the other is burdened down because they think they "have" to do it. Many times only God knows the difference. Maybe if we follow those two around for a long time--years--then we will come to see the difference. Or maybe we won't. I think one of the things that we sometimes get mixed up on, or at least I was for a really long time maybe other people aren't at all, is that even though God's Will should supersede our own, our will and God's are not at direct polar ends all the time. God WANTS us to be happy. He WANTS to give us blessing. He WANTS to help us. He WANTS to show us better choices so we can have more joy. We want to line up with what He wants for us, but we don't have to be afraid of what He wants for us. The things He wants for us are good things--full of blessing. When we're sitting at the cross roads of choices--say our job or who to marry or who to hang out with or even smaller things like how can I manage to make it through today without freaking out--we can go to Him and just trust. "Thou sweet beloved Will of God" is one of my favorite hymns. One of the reasons that I speak out so much against the wacko rules so much is often they do not contain the very nature of God, which is love. There is no love in sending your children to school wearing something that makes people laugh at them. No love at all. It hurts people. There is no love to tell people they cannot take part in meeting just because they got remarried. No love to yank people aside and give them a talking to because they aren't wearing the costume. I don't believe that any of the workers went into the work to hurt people... and yet I've seen it happen many times--maybe it is because they started worrying about the outside of people instead of ministering to hearts. I dunno. I don't know why workers act the way they do. I don't even know why I act the way I do sometimes. ;D Probably because we're all human and (as Alanis says) nobody's got it all figured out just yet. It's 5am. I'm not sure if I can think straight this time of day so I hope some of this makes sense. Just random thoughts. peace to all, freespirit

mjr - Yes Fanny Crosby must have been a super person. And as usual, on another website so of the people think she was a meeting person but not so. Plus she wrote over 9000 hymns. I have a book on her. Quite a lady.
