Workers have withheld baptism for some until they conform and obey various 2x2 traditions and (unwritten) rules.
Were you refused baptism? Have you heard, or known of anyone wanting to be baptized being required to do certain things?
No rules? From a 2 page note titled "Baptism" - no author given:
"As a candidate for baptism, do you have your affections set on things above?
Are you faithful in reading and praying?
Are you free from every form of bitterness and unforgiveness?
Are you free from the bondage of ungodly and worldly practices, such as smoking, drinking, swearing, worldly entertainments, the unnecessary adornment of self with gold, silver, pearls. etc., make-up or apparel that attracts attention to self?
If single, are you purposed to not become unequally yoked with an unbeliever?
Do you believe in Jesus with all your heart?
Assured that He is able to lead you and to save you?"

Baptism is another important step for the Christians to take a deeper step into the will and way of God.
Many friends who took the step of baptism without understanding the meaning behind felt really bad that the workers did NOT explain to them what it meant.
Baptism means death to the old nature, bury our past, and raise to NEWNESS of life.
It takes only a few minutes to baptize but a lifetime to live out the meaning of baptism. We will fight our human natures, the world and the devil until our last breath.
So, it's good to KNOW and UNDERSTAND the POWER of Jesus cleansing blood to forgive our sins daily. When those who are baptized and partake the emblems every Sunday, it's remind the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.
The NEWNESS of life begins here on earth and it will continue after this earthly life is over.

They said I was too young. And, they were likely right about that. I was 10 years old.

My brother and I had taken the emblems in the Sunday morning meetings for 4 months before we knew anything about baptism. Then One day, the workers talked to us about the step of Baptism and we said OK, that is fine. We learning about the meaning of taken the step of Baptism later on...
These rules are added by the workers on certain area, or states ... I believe they get the CART before the HORSE! Baptize them and let the Holy Spirit makes the changes people from within, Like the Yeast in the dough and NOT by rules don't do this or don't do that! Outward changes last only a few years... But the changes by the Holy Spirit last for a life time.
God wants to change from within the hearts NOT by reading the ink/writing on a piece of paper. Let God give people the POWER from within to changes their bad habits, bad behaviors, and so on... People can't change over nights, it takes time, months and years but God has plenty of time to work with each of us. Some are slow learners, and others are fast learners, and the Holy Spirit is very patience in helping us to overcome whatever battles or struggles we face.
Truth Archive Baptism Handout - New South Wales, AustraliaBaptism is one of the great provisions planned by God, for the good of His people. It is included in the last command of Jesus, Matthew 28: 16-20 to be carried out "unto the end of the world." Baptism is not an optional step. It should not be looked upon as something to be put off until a more convenient season. It is one of the most important steps that we take in the way of salvation, one that requires very serious consideration. Baptism, as it is taught in the Scriptures, is not a form. It is not a matter of a person being immersed just because Jesus was, or because Jesus taught that we should be. Baptism is an act of burial. Romans 6:4, when we began following the Lord in His true way, it automatically separated us from our old manner of life and the things for which we were once living. Baptism is the act whereby that dead past is then buried behind us. The following verses list some of the things that the Lord's people are encouraged to die to, or to turn their backs upon: 1 Corinthians 11:14 -15, 2 Corinthians 7:1, Ephesians 4:22-32, 1 Timothy 2:8-10, Titus 2:11-14, 1 Peter 3:1-4, 1 John 2:15-17. Some of the above verses refer to ornaments. They speak of things that are superfluous as far as a child of God is concerned. The wedding ring is not considered an ornament. It is a symbol of a sacred vow and is worn as a reminder of that vow. Ornamental rings, however, are superfluous and among the ornaments that should be "put off." There is a reason for this. The end toward which the Lord has always labored is to make His people different. We are intended to be different in spirit, different in appearance, different in our manner of life. Exodus 33:16, this is what makes us a light in the world around us. Phillippians 2:15, if we're like the world, which is living in darkness, there would be no light. Our only hope of being a light is by being different. Baptism is also referred to as a planting, Romans 6:5. There is nothing very beautiful about a seed that is planted; the beauty is in the new life that comes forth. Likewise, there is nothing beautiful about our old manner of life, or its characteristics. But, when it is planted there is something very beautiful about the new life that comes forth. This thought is brought out so well in Galatians 2:20 and Colossians 2:12, 3:1-4. In 1 Corinthians 10:1-2, Paul used the Red Sea experience as a type of baptism. This presents the true order of baptism. God sent his two servants, Moses and Aaron, down to the people with the gospel of deliverance. Their response to that gospel brought them into touch with the Lamb, which was a type of Christ. It was this that saved them. Exodus 12:1-14, the next step was the Red Sea, which was their baptism. They passed through those waters, which closed in behind them, burying forever the things that had once held them in bondage. The authority to baptize was given to only one type of ministry. The ones to whom Jesus gave this authority in Matthew 28:16-20 were men who had been willing to follow Jesus in His way. This is very important. No minister can bring you into anything more than what he has. The wrong kind of preacher, even though he may baptize by immersion, can only bring a person into the church that he himself is a part of. On the other hand, when one is baptized by a minister who is in fellowship with Jesus, he shares with them that same pure fellowship that he is enjoying, 1 John 1:3.

We had a retired couple that cane to mtgs. She professed but he didn't, but he came most every time she did. One special MTG time he told older sister worker he was joining with them. That was early spring. Then September came and conv. He went esp to be baptized. But when Sat afternoon came, the baptism for Sun am was cancelled. Reason said was not enough to be baptized. There were two or three known then. But later found out because this man had not quit smoking yet is why they cancelled the baptism. The other two would be picked up the next week at another conv. This nearly caused the man to quit professing. But he held on and the next summer the workers took him to the river and baptized him.

In 1973, the workers at Fermanagh convention would not baptise my female cousin because there was a rumour that she had been wearing jeans (pants). At the same convention, I was baptised. At that time was I atheist. Their poor judgement in these matters reinforced my belief that they were not infallible and divinely inspired.
Background: I was 13 years old, had been sexually abused by a male worker a few months before the convention, and my mum believed that it would have been better that I'd never been born if I didn't profess.

ejkee,Understand the cruel criminal element of antinomians, can criminally abuse you today and preach the Preacher only sect message to you tomorrow. God at least would understand the scar of suffering you will bear all through your life. The Holy Spirit is real hold onto Him.. Love Ex-victim of 2x2x2s Preachers. Your mum's reaction is typical, how could you ever speak or think such thoughts of God's supposed Servants, they would throw at you that is why we stayed quite about our traumas.Well 2x got jail in this State in recent years. I requested baptism and was asked to wait because I wasn't ready. They were right.

Parallels between baptism and crucifixion as found in the Gospel of John. These stories are meant to line up an are meant to make you think what the message of the Gospel is: these are not memories!
John Jesus John cries with a loud voice Jesus cries with a loud voice An allusion is made to Elijah An allusion is made to Elijah The heavens are torn The temple curtain is torn Holy spirit descends upon Jesus Holy spirit departs from Jesus God calls Jesus his son The centurion calls Jesus God’s son

I thank the Lord today for being denied baptism by the workers, although at the time it was a very traumatic thing for me. I was told the morning of my baptism that it wasn’t going to happen because I had too much makeup in my cupboard (which they had seen while staying at my home) and I skied too much. By denying me baptism, my parents eyes were opened and we left the church, or as I now know it as, the cult. Most of our family still remains in it. I was baptized 2 years ago by my amazing pastor and with a real passion for Jesus... this time knowing that I will never be sin-less, and that’s not the point! I was baptized as an outward symbol of my dedication to Jesus (who saved me through grace!!).

I was refused baptism by an Aussie worker in our area, because I didn’t conform to his ideals for dress, hair and because I played sport.
I was not going to conform to man made rules, so sat it out till the following year. The senior worker referred to the worker who refused to let me be baptised as an “idiot”, and told me that I had done the right thing by not succumbing to bullying tactics.

The sister workers around here love cross country skiing. Another brother worker around here works out regularly to fitness videos on his laptop.

Looks like I should have left out the reasons for why they denied me baptism. The point is, baptism isn’t for those that “have it all together”, because truthfully, none of us have it all together (PSA-that includes the workers 😉). Before getting baptized by my pastor, I was having a convo with my pastors wife and asked the question, “how do I know I’m ready to be baptized?” She said, “do you have a relationship with Jesus Christ? Do you trust him as your savior- the one who died for your sins?”, to which I replied, “yes, of course”. It’s as simple as that guys. It’s not what I do or don’t do.
Here’s another way to put it. On a scale of 1-10 how certain are you that you would go to heaven if you died today? If your answer is anywhere from a 5-10, why are you that certain? You know how I would answer? 10. Absolutely. Positively. 10. Jesus died for me, and is sitting at the right hand of God waiting for me to join him. He saved me through GRACE. There are not enough “good” things I could do to get to heaven, because at the end of the day, I’m a sinner. But I can live with hope, knowing that in Him, I am free. My chains are broken. I hope this makes sense and can shed some light on the whole baptism thing. Love to all of you, no matter what you believe ❤️

i specifically said to the worker that was doing the baptism for me that i didn't understand baptism completely especially why it had to be a second step instead of just being born again and being baptised at the same time but since Jesus did it i felt the need to do it too at the age of 42ish in 2007....they said okay and baptised me...this was after being rejected in 1992ish for baptism because of my sleeping around...i am thankful that they kept me from baptism the first time as i wasn't really living the right kind of life for it....I.E Mat 3:8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:

I LOVE that Jesus accepted me as I was. That was a life changing experience. The changes my walk with the Lord put me through were truly profound within me. I was very disappointed in being denied a 2x2 baptism. I really wasn't interested in proving anything to the workers. I still smoked cigarettes...I was too stinky for the "workers", but not my savior...

Anyone here baptized as a 2x2 and then re-baptized in a different church? I'd love to hear about this...am wondering if it's something I should do.
