Sorry Snow, But these people who quoted Jesus were eye-witnesses to the things he said and did. 2 Peter 1.16. For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. Either I believe Peter or I believe you? Perhaps this is an opportune moment to do a poll of board members on this issue? 1) I believe the Apostle Peter or 2) I believe board member Snow Read the Gospel of Mary Magdalene and then come back and tell me that Peter is more believable. And there is no proof that the gospels were written by eye witnesses either. In fact most biblical scholars now believe that none of the synoptic gospels were written until after the fall of Jerusalem and not by any of the apostles that have their names attributed to them. The Gospel of John is the only one that they feel was written by John, though some believe the most beloved apostle wasn't John, but was Mary Magdalene. Of course you can't even consider that. You have to believe the bible is inerrant. You're providing speculation, not answers. Even John tells us that they (the eye-witness disciples) beheld Jesus Glory as the only begotten son of God, who was full of grace and truth. But you won't believe that because it's in the Bible.

Why should I suspend logical thinking just because someone 2000 years ago thought people walked on water, gave birth being a virgin, and died, went to hell, opened up graves while the dead walked, then returned to life and walked among his apostles himself? None of these things ever happen in real life so I see no reason to believe they happened 2000 years ago either. You would think it would have been documented in other places by other outside sources if it was true that there were a bunch of dead people walking around Jerusalem. Don't you?

Eye witnesses to these events you ridicule, who lacked faith beforehand, later went out with renewed courage and faith because of what they had seen and heard, to share the good news, to the point they were prepared to suffer horrible deaths for their beliefs, so that people like you and me could hear the truth of the matter and escape the wrath of God. It is not because it is what the Bible says, it is because there were many eyewitnesses to these events who cared deeply about people like you and I and who very selflessly died to their own human desires in order to try and rescue us from the certainty of a lost eternity.

Well I don't happen to be all that impressed by a God that we have to escape the 'wrath' of. Also, I'm not too impressed by an all loving all powerful being that had to have someone die to save us from him. If he is so great, he would understand why people don't always do what they should and just forgive us. After all, he created us that way. Why should we be sent to hell for eternity because he created us to be sinners that need his salvation? Sounds like a set up to me. But then, for me, it's all just people wishful thinking, wanting to live forever in bliss. Forever is a long time and live is not something I would ever want to do forever. Christianity is just another religion from those times that believed that a blood sacrifice was what was needed to cure everything. I don't believe in sins that send you to hell or salvation that sends you to live with this entity in 'heaven'.

[/i] Yes, you obviously don't have any problem with a blood sacrifice. I do. I am 100% dependent upon that blood sacrifice. My hope relies upon it. Perhaps if you understood what it means, you might feel differently. Remember, the person who was the subject of that blood sacrifice, did it willingly. He submitted to it of his own free will for hopeless sinners like you and me, to give us eternal hope.[/quote]

mountain, do you approve of all the different cultures that have used blood sacrifice? I don't view myself as a 'hopeless sinner' and I feel sad that you view yourself in such a manner. If your god needs to give you salvation for your sins then why doesn't he just forgive you? Why all the drama of killing his only son in a blood sacrifice which is what primitive cultures did. How is your blood sacrifice any less primitive and any more beneficial to any of the ones this world has done? It's hard for me to believe that people in this day and age believe blood sacrifice is necessary. Truly.

They are not part of my belief system. It is with regret that that in your condition of unbelief that you do not see yourself as a hopeless sinner, for that is certainly the condition of those who remain in their unbelief. By regarding myself in such a vein, it is because I am entirely dependent upon the mercy of the one and only, true, righteous God, who is perfect and his standards are perfect. He created man in his image, a perfect image, following in his ways and dependent upon his holy word. That man fell away from the righteous and just ways of God, meant that our only hope for our imperfect selves is through the redemptive process that the just God mercifully provided. He did not have to do this. He could have cast us aside, but no, his love for this dying world was so great that he prescribed a path of redemption that required a perfect offering for our sins. Not only that he raised up a perfect human being, his only begotten Son to be his lamb offering. This is how much your loving God cares about you and your future destiny. He sent his one and only begotten human being son, who was perfect in every way, 100% obedient to his Father's will, to die a cruel death so that his shed blood would atone for the sins of those who would come to him and follow him in his way, his truth and his life. This is not something to be idly questioned or challenged, but something to be grasped and to be grasped hard. Allow a little thawing. Let the Snow turn to water. Snow suppresses life. Water feeds it. Let the blood of the Lamb wash away your sins.

But yours is such a fundamental and significant question: "If your god needs to give you salvation for your sins then why doesn't he just forgive you?"It's because of who the one and only true God - the creator God - is. His character. He is both perfectly just, and full of grace and mercy. He can't just wink and forgive you your sins, because that is not justice. As you suggest, it would suit you fine for that to be the case, but God could not be true to all his perfection if he did that. In short, he would be a god who ultimately failed to live up to the absolute highest standard of integrity that we as humans, believers and atheists alike, crave for. So at the cross, mercy and justice kiss. God is who he says he is, perfectly just yet by grace able to forgive yours and my sins. Completely. White as snow! Let's not discuss this further here, but on its own topic thread if you wish. Admin

I honestly don't understand how anyone can think this was a viable solution. I'm not trying to be argumentative about this. I truly cannot see how a blood sacrifice is a requirement based on justice or perfection. I also don't understand why this blood sacrifice is any different than any other blood sacrifice. It was the norm in that day and age worldwide but we slowly began to realize just how barbaric such a practice was and ended it. So why would an all powerful and all loving god be restricted to something that we now view as barbaric? I truly do not understand that kind of thinking. Speaking of snow, we just had a good dump of it. One day it was +19 C and the next day at 4pm it started to snow and by 6 pm we had about a half a foot. By morning we had almost a foot of snow. Nothing unusual for where I live, so I don't know why it always catches us by surprise when it happens ha! I guess because we were so enjoying spring! However, this morning it's almost all gone again while yesterdays walk was through foot high snow drifts! We have a saying where we live. 6am fall arrives 10 am winter arrives 2pm summer arrives and 6pm fall arrives again. Blink and you miss it lol...

I don't think I'll understand it while I'm still alive. I think you could design an experiment right now. Randomly divide your friends or coworkers into a control group and test subjects. Figure out a mean comment that you could use to offend them all. For the control group, you could follow up by giving them a heartfelt apology. For the remainder, you can kill a cat or dog that closely matches one of your pets in front of them. Smear the blood around, burn it, maybe do some chanting. Then quantitatively measure your future social interactions as a measure of the forgiveness effectiveness. Party invites, Facebook follows and likes, invitations to go out for lunch, etc.

Party invites, Facebook follows and likes, invitations to go out for lunch, etc. LOL You're gonna get me in trouble if I start killing dogs and cats! Seriously though. I know for a fact that there is no need for blood to be shed so it is possible to forgive someone. I do it all the time. I don't kill anything and I apologize and ask for forgiveness and they just do it. They don't kill anything to save me from my sin or anything. Now if a human can forgive someone without requiring a blood sacrifice, why can't an all powerful all loving being forgive without a blood sacrifice. But as @wally points out, no one knows why forgiveness requires a blood sacrifice if it's a god forgiving in question. Maybe it's just a god thing? It will take death for me to understand it and everyone else I guess. For some reason in order to forgive if you're a god, blood must be shed because otherwise it just wouldn't be just. By just I guess I would have to guess what that means. I would guess it means it wouldn't be fair? I have no idea.

openingact34 . This ^ is a clever analogy. And it highlights how the passing of time has a strong influence on what people accept as reasonable beliefs, and what they would surely dismiss as madness if the same beliefs were enacted in the present day. Christianity ( and most other faith-based beliefs) has its origins in the distant past, and there seem to be multiple reasons why people who readily believe in extraordinary and unverifiable accounts in ancient texts, will be sceptical and demand more proof for scientific discoveries and beliefs whose origins can be identified. Is there something akin to a veil or mind-numbing effect emanating from ancient history which lulls the credulous into accepting that which they would turn away from in the present?

Joanna you might like this. The 3rd caller in was in a position pretty much like you explain here. He was asked if he thought that anything in the bible was evil because he was accusing someone else of saying that the bible was evil. So when he was asked if he thought slavery was wrong he responded 'yes'. Then he was read a couple of verses in Exodus that gives direction on how to treat a slave. It says that you may punish a slave in any way you wish and you will not be punished unless the slave dies from his punishment. It also states that the slaves are their property. At that point he started in on the usual 'tap dance' about the times being different etc. But just before that he had agreed that slavery was always wrong no matter when it happened. And, that's the sad part of it all. Because it's in the bible it can't be bad and he felt he had to make excuses for his God and it was so obvious that this was a man that likely would never own a slave never mind punish it. The cognitive dissonance is sad imo. Its a long call in so you may not wish to listen to it all. In all cases they were callers that said they had evidence, but when they were asked what their evidence was, they couldn't offer any that didn't have other possibilities. It was clear it was just the one they had chosen. Nothing wrong with that imo, but you should be honest with yourself and others and not call it evidence. www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhSyEFyvjKI&feature=youtu.be&fbclid=IwAR0b97dzt5ty3C2Nxfysje3T6lm7rkN-yPVQQLNhW6pIaqPH-1arsQyvunI

The Workers' list for Victoria 2018 has been released and is attached.
David Leitch (Head Worker) is listed at the bottom of the main list with the comment "Helping as needed".
Does anyone know what that means and why he is not in a field?
Janette Briggs who has been a senior worker in Victoria for many years is missing altogether from the list.
Last year she was shown on the list as "Visiting in the field" but is not on the list at all for 2018.
Janette Briggs spent time in the Mildura field last year (where David Leitch was preaching).
As I understand it David Leitch and Janette Briggs preached together in a mission in Mildura for some time last year.
Where is Janette Briggs now? If she was resting/caring for health it would be listed.
It seems she has left the work. Do any Victorians know why?
According to the list David L. is no longer the overseer... NO companion or field assigned to him, NOT too active in the work, a fill in wherever... How old is David L.?
Usually, they put the overseer name at the top with two workers in a field but he is not always with them. I have not seen an overseer name among the resting workers section.
Was David L. name at the top of the workers list last year?

It came to pass... true story. Building a house in Shepperton. I believe you... When you see an overseer name in the resting list, with no companion then there is something cooking in the back burner. I happy for both of them! May the Lord continue to bless them wherever they are. Bloom where you are planted. They will be a great encouragement to those in their meetings or people they come in contact with.
