That seems a fairly good size gun to me!
Yes I know the scripture. It is a metaphor. Somewhere else it says to watch and to pray. I try to watch. When I need to I pray. Christians know they have an enemy of their soul. When we abide in the lord he does warn us of stuff. This scripture is a warning about what can happen therefore we need to watch. D I stuff up all the time but I am comforted by the holy spirit. If i am decieved about anything then I trust him to help me recognise that. He usually does too. Yes, I know what a metaphor means. A metaphor is a figure of speech that identifies something as being the same as some unrelated thing for rhetorical effect. So, the two are related.
I was answering the part of your post where you stated that, "I don't feel threatened at all." Yet in this post you do seem to feel threatened because of a belief that you have "enemy of the soul. " You seem to feel that you do need to be on the alert & "watch and to pray" and keep in touch with a "holy spirit" and if you don't, you could be deceived and be in danger of "eternal damnation."
This seems quite a load of feeling threatened and would cause quite a bit of angst.

Ratz For some reason when I click on quote it comes up with mine not yours...grr Maybe your phone is possessed. I can only go by whet you say. Probably just as well. In your post you seemed to imply that the threat of hell was more of a Catholic idea. You have to remember people like Jonathan Edwards and his sermon - Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God. It had 10 points, one of which was God may cast wicked men into hell at any given moment. These are some standard christian beliefs. More people will be going to hell, according to Jesus, so that might be a better focus. No, I am not trying to put words into your mouth. I am just saying that if you don't present the whole picture you are presenting a distorted view. It is like selling people on the great taste of sugar without telling them about the adverse health possibilities. I am not judging you. Just looking at what you claim wihout the rose colored glasses. Don't you believe that is true? That was another one of Edward's points - All that wicked men may do to save themselves from Hell's pains shall afford them nothing if they continue to reject Christ.People think Edwards is being harsh but he was just retelling what is in the bible. That will happen if you make unverifiable claims. The requirement is a product of your belief - not an actual requirement. For example, water is a requirement for life. This is the last post I am making, for a certain reason. I've been biting my tongue all night I'm dying to answer posts. Typical woman I can't shut up! But I have to say this before I stop posting Water is a requirement of life naturally. The spirit of the living God is a requirement of life spiritually! Jesus said I will give you fountains of living water! Which is the holy spirit. So both waters are a requirement of life! The spirit is also the breath of life! Without which we haven't been quickened in spirit. Which means to be brought to life in the knowledge of God in your heart through Christ! May God bless you rational, and I hope you see him one day. If not in your heart, then in a person of God! It's been so interesting talking to everyone here. I wish for all the best and blessings to you all. God bless Mary

Don't you allow us to post what we believe as you are allowed to post what you believe?
Surely if you have faith in what you believe, isn't it rather an obligation for you express it? Isn't ours an equal obligation to express what we believe?
Also an equal obligation for each of us to listen to one another?

DMG it's nothing like that, I've got no right to say whether people post or not. I don't feel like that at all. Everyone has a right to believe in what they feel is right. I care about all people, not just because they believe in the same way a me. God has shown me that he loves all, and if I love him, so will I. Regardless of what they believe in. I came here to find the people who believed like me, who came from the same background. I found this site by accident whilst googling about Edward Cooney! And I've learnt lots of things since being here. It's been so interesting! Even how different all our beliefs are! But one thing I have learned, everyone has a goodness and love in them, no matter what they believe in and even though people don't realise it that love is from God. He is the God of love. By the way talking about the God of love, I thought of you and snow when I read this today. Because you both said when you were younger it disturbed you when you read about the death of the people in the Old Testament. Isaiah 11 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. When he talks about the rod in the bible, it's not beating a child. It's to reprove with the mouth, and his people are his children not just literal children, we sometimes need to be put right so we don't stray, I know I do! And slaying the wicked is putting down evil in the heart of men with the Spirit of God from the mouth of a person of God, even from God to myself in my own heart when I go wrong, he wants my wickedness gone, and quickly! I wish you well

I am fairly sure that both snow and I have read Isaiah 11, I know I have, many times. The scripture that I read where "God" kills everyone, including even suckling children shows a god that I don't want to associated with.

D thats your opinion and thats fine. It just isnt mine. I dont feel angst. Ive been a believer most of my life. Loving god comforts me. Not the way you describe. As for the enemy satan Evil one. The majority of the time all is good. When you were a christian did you ever know that evil was your enemy? Did you feel the need to pray for your kids coming home from school etc.

Hey Maryhig, this quote comes to mind: “I don't share my thoughts because I think it will change the minds of people who think differently. I share my thoughts to show the people who already think like me that they're not alone.” I don't read posts of all who post here - I'm sure nobody does - but there are many whose posts I like to read and you are one of those!

I share my thoughts to show the people who already think like me that they're not alone.” Don't you think various posts make people look at life from a different place? If you want to read only posts that agree with your outlook you could just write notes to yourself I, for example, at times post not because I think people will suddenly do the right thing and renounce their belief in a deity or deities but so they will perhaps consider the fact that there are people who manage to survive without a belief in god. You might be surprised at what some people read.

You and I may have our own agendas in writing here, but I don't think that Maryhig does. I don't like it that someone like her doesn't feel like sticking around here. And no, I don't have to push my agenda in every thread and topic.

Alvin I agree with this sentiment, and maryhig, I also hope you reconsider the decision to curtail your participation on this board. The sentiment that snow expressed earlier about you and bubbles is so true, and such a welcome addition here. Funny, as I would read your posts, I would feel echoes of my childhood, and much of what I would attribute that was "good" to 2X2ism. Common roots, I guess?

I think anyone reading your posts must understand and see you as the loving individual you are. It comes across in all of your writing Maryhig. You are loving and you don't judge. You do state what you believe and that's certainly not offensive, and totally okay. We all do that here. I am sure some of what I say is offensive but I do try to do it with as much concern for feelings as I can. It is hard for me to post here because it brings back a lot of not so great memories. But I love the people and I would miss them, if I quit completely. I do take breaks now and then because I am dealing with lots in my life and sometimes I get to a place where I feel my posts are not helpful and could possibly do harm because of my state of mind. Are you sure you hurt someone? Have they actually told you that you have hurt them?

Matt 18 v 19,20 "Again truly I tell you that if two or you on earth agree about anything they ask for it will be done for them by my father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name there I am in the midst of them." If god cares about a sparrow falling from a tree then he cares about all my needs too. I pray for anything this way. Cars holidays health finance direction family friends animals. Anything. I stretch my faith whenever possible. Theres another verse...' you have not because you ask not'. I like declaring his goodness. I also like believing for the impossible. Theres just something inside my being that gets tickled with expectation. When there is a break through and the prayer is answered I am elated.

Really appreciate this...talking about our experiences is group therapy. It's wonderful. I get something out of posts from people with all kinds of beliefs because there always seems to be something in common, or something to learn from.
