Xna ~ What you shared reminded me of a blog I just read on the same matter. However, simply because something cannot be physically measured in ounces as part of the body weight, doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't exists? Until somebody can actually prove otherwise, I believe I will hold on to my belief in a soul and spirit inside this human temple of a mine called the body.

faune WHOO. ... Danger ... Reading Greta's blog is hardcore feminist atheism. ;-) They have been looking for evidence of a soul for a long time. I think PBS did a special on Duncan MacDougall which first took a stab at it from a scientific approach. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duncan_MacDougall_(doctor)Xna ~ No kidding! Hard core feminist definitely describes that gal. However, she's colorful, I have to admit. It's funny that you should mention Duncan MacDougall, since I just read a rebuttal of his article about the soul weighing in at 21 grams at two different links. I can even remember a movie entitled, "21 Grams" in the past around this concept. I guess anybody who puts his work out there is bound to get diced by the critics in his own field? But, it's an interesting study, I must admit, although it appears to be still in the early stages of discovery when MacDougall conducted his experiment. Snopes.com really tells the story behind it, too. I'm a science and history buff myself. I love the Science and History Channels and TED on Netflix. The series on Through the Wormhole was phenomenal and very well done. Have you ever seen any of those documentaries yourself? Morgan Freedom narrates the show.

Here's another article I found on the subject of the soul that takes a different approach scientifically called biocentrism. The excerpt belows sums up well some of the opinions within the scientific community regarding the soul; however, have they missed something in the transition?

Xna ~ Reading this article about entanglements of atoms reminded me of a verse from Hebrews 4:12. I like the Amplified Version of that verse, because it makes much clearer how the soul and spirit are joined together and describes the power of the Word of God at the close of this life to divide asunder between soul and spirit.

DMG ~ Yes, you missed the link earlier that Xna originally responded to and I quoted. Here it is again for your review. Also, Xna made the statement first about her being a hardcore feminist atheist ~ not me, I simply agreed with him after reading her article.
Here's Xna's response below. The original post will follow.

Here is how your brain & mind works. So far science hasn't found a spirt or soul. The opposite is more probable. -------- It seems everything vibrates energy. * yes when the temps are above absolute zero it seems so. Diamonds are 3 dimensional. • yes Energy is multidimensional I presume. * yes, it can act in 3 dimensions Xna. Lol @gaps are filled with what? * knowledge The opposite is more probable * more knowledge leads to more questions. which leaves more gaps, which leads to more knowledge, and so on. Or Mystery (gaps) are filled with dogma - full stop end of story. - God did it, no more questions - it's settled. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Rational ~ I believe she traveled a lot in the past, so perhaps she'll make an appearance again somewhere in the world? She had a colorful personality on line, which brought her back to mind. Hopefully, she'll return some day and brighten our Board again with her lively conversations?

Science won't try to deal in invisible things! The soul is the breath of life within every person. The spirit is as Jesus explained. There is no physical substance, but is like the wind that listeth here to there and back again. No one can tell us where that wind actually went or came...so is a spirit. God is a spirit and thus our spirit would seek to be incommunion with Him because he is a spirit, etc...something of that kind, eh?

Here's that Bible verse you quoted from John 3:8 with the different translations and other references from the Biblehub.com site. I also liked this verse found in reference to the same from Ecclesiastes 11:5.

Science won't try to deal in invisible things! Really? Gravity? Magnetic fields? As things go, not the most visible. So when a person stops breathing their soul is gone? No more? And if they recover - new soul? That was probably a great analogy in biblical times but tracking the wind is not much of a mystery these days. But not much progress has been made finding the soul/spirit.

Ecclesiastes 11:5As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in a mother's womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things. This needs to be updated. So now there is the path of the wind and pregnancy/fetal development that are well understood. Looks like the bible says that if the wind and pregnancy can be understood so can the work of god.

Rational ~ That sounds reasonable, unless we are talking about the work of God within the souls of man, which still is a mystery? From last report, scientists are still working on disapproving the existence of the soul/spirit within man and have not got it down pat yet?

Can you provide a reference to scientists who are working to disprove the existence of the soul/spirit?

I was thinking more along the lines of words having creative power. I see words like an artist must think of a paint brush; just tools used to shape ideas. Words are fat brushes, they rely on interpretation by the reader which must choose the meaning often from context. BTW: "set" has 464 definitions. Little words seem more powerful than big ones. We can speak positive words into a situation combined with faith it can bring change. Yes little words like love, stop, start, give, all have powerful consequences naturally and spiritually.
