Alabama Supreme Court Rules Frozen Embryos Are Children"The Alabama Supreme Court ruled Friday the state will consider frozen embryos as “children,” allowing three couples to sue for wrongful death after a hospital patient allegedly destroyed their embryos. Once the patient had allegedly removed the embryos from the freezer, the couples claimed, the “subzero temperatures burned the eloping patient’s hands, causing him or her to drop the cryopreserved embryonic human beings on the floor, where they began to slowly die,” the lawsuit stated." Utah is preparing to pass a law allowing itself to ignore federal laws when they conflict with their own state laws. This one is going to cause a lot of grief, I'm sure.

It seems TX is on that same track with the boarder conflicts. I don't know how they can get around Article VI, Clause 2 of the US constitution.
"This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding."

Of course, someone has promoted a very bad example in these times.

I can't see that ending well. What happens if a freezer fails and a whole lot of them 'die'. You'd have to take out insurance on these embryos to cover yourself I guess. I just don't understand anymore.

Hasn't Texas talked numerous times about seceding? Kind of like Quebec threatening to become their own sovereignty. TX would have to pay back all the federal dollar they ever received. This would be a very large figure perhaps in the billons.

This would be a very large figure perhaps in the billons. They would just claim bankruptcy ha! Quebec has to have the permission of Native tribes in Quebec to secede. Our premier is talking about seceding AB from Canada but it's not a thing because same permission is needed from our Native tribes and I doubt any of them would ever agree to it.

Many Americans would consider that a blessing.. I'd prefer to keep the 12.4% social security tax and invest it towards my own retirement.

You can be taxed on 85% of your SS check.

What's to say that the God everyone thinks exists isn't AI. It makes more sense than a being that creates heaven and hell and judges everyone when they die just for it's own amusement. It is fascinating to see just how AI could change everything. A bit scary too though!

It is fascinating to see just how AI could change everything. A bit scary too though! That could be the case, or we could be living in a simulation that someone ( a god to us) made. There is no way to know.

The word ‘artificial’ reflects an assumption our intelligence has been organic. Perhaps our planet was settled or influenced by civilizations that commandeered AI. Perhaps the Jew inwardly, pursuant to his ‘other’ worldly experience is one who has been summoned to witness and distinguish between the organic intelligence bidden him of the HS, and the enslaving proclivities manifestly resident in AI altered civilizations.

Today I put 2 cats in a carrier and took them in to be neutered. They came back sore and drowsy. Despite what I did to them, they are both sleeping in my lap right now. That's the greatest act of forgiveness I've ever experienced or witnessed in my life... We can learn a lot from animals

I am watching a series on Vikings. Loki (real person and later the name of a god) was sailing east from Norway. He took three ravens with him and released them. Guess what happened. Noah, anyone?

We just need Elon Musk to switch his support to Ukraine instead of acting as Putin's puppet.

We just need Elon Musk to switch his support to Ukraine instead of acting as Putin's puppet. I haven't followed his involvement with Ukraine very closely to have an informed opinion, however, Musk has made some amazing contributions to technology. All the ultra rich I know are concerned mostly about; #1- their self interest & #2 - staying out of jail. I find that morality isn't high on the billionaires priority list.
