I read (sadly) the following: Because of repeated sad unsocial behavior and 'terrorist' tactics and threats, I have decided that TMB needs someone much tougher at the helm. I am intending to hand over to a new administration within a few days. I believe the new administration will get TMB back onto even keel and thus it is in everybody's best interests.
How does this fit with your promise that you would never divulge poster's personal data on this site to anyone?

How does this fit with your promise that you would never divulge poster's personal data on this site to anyone? I do not understand your question. What does this have to do with a new TMB admin? The administrator has access to the personal details of the users. If a new administrator is chosen they too will have access to all of the personal details of the users. The current administrator has stated several times that he would not allow anyone else to have access to this data. If he turns the administrative keys over to another person they would have access to the data and it would be going against his promise.

Do you have any suggestions? Why, I can hardly think for myself let alone make suggestions. I think the administrator should be known, at least by their posting name. I have never had a problem with an administrator taking part in the discussion. It would be ideal if they could be a neutral corner with as small an ax to grind as possible. Do you have a list?

It's your idea. Build your own list.

Should we begin nominating candidates? Establish political parties? Have run off elections, then a final campaign and vote. Whaddaya say? Bitter Exes vs. Hardcore Truthers, then a Green Party comprised of the milder innies and exes. That way we get a three way run off vote.

Wouldn't it be wise for the new admin to be subject to the same "promise" before being promoted?

I think the administrator should be known, at least by their posting name. Are you referring to the new administrator, or our current administrator? When our current administrator took over, any concerns I had were set aside when Cherie gave her approval. Her reference was good enough for me. And as to posting their names, will you hold yourself to the same standard?

I don't think rat really meant their real world name, but their user ID on here. In truth, it would lend a lot more trust (or distrust) if we knew who was taking over the helm. Some might like to opt out prior to the take over, thus getting rid of all your personal info. Personally, I would like to know who is taking over. Maybe I'm getting paranoid in my old age, but I really don't trust some folks on here with my personal info.

I see this as a play on words because whoever takes the helm and makes this promise will eventually do the same when they leave.

How does this fit with your promise that you would never divulge poster's personal data on this site to anyone? Rational, thank you. It is a serious issue, and it weighs heavily. As ilylo said, what are the options? I am reading the suggestions here, and will not act hastily. I do feel TMB needs eventually opening up for unregistered posting, to keep its vibrant spirit. Again, how best to achieve it. admin

I would think that the actions of the new admin would be more important then knowing the name of the new admin. Think it all the way through. If you don't know who they are it will be difficult to judge their actions until it is too late.

Rational, why nitpick at Admin? Yes, I'm sure Admin intended to keep the promise in any way possible..but if he/she is to leave then either in the info MUST be passed on or TMB is to shut down. I think you would be overruled if that went to vote and you voted for the former, just so no one would have access to personal details. When the reins were passed the first time, no one asked anyone if it should happen or not...it simply happened and we had a "Hello, I'm the new Admin." What would be so different about it happening again. I'm fairly sure Admin didn't *anticipate* it being too big of a job to handle and that that would cause him/her to have to "break a promise" (I just don't see it that way...if you choose to, that's your decision). As you know, we can't always anticipate what's going to happen in our lives. I can promise you something today and fully intend to keep that promise, and something that happens tomorrow may prevent me from it. Oh well. You seem to have a ax to grind with Admin over this...that's why I'm directing this post to you. Take care, M.

Rational, why nitpick at Admin? I think it a rather important point to many posters. You may call it nitpicking if you wish. In argumentative writing this would be considered the fallacy of false choice. There are other options. You are continuing down the same illogical path. There are more than the options you have mentioned. Because it happened in the past does not mean it was the correct way nor does it mean we need to repeat it. I don't believe I have ever said any of this. I am just asking what the options are in light of his statement. This is a case of making promises you can't keep. It is a saying among Divines, that Hell is full of good Intentions, and Meanings. R. Whitlock; Observations on Manners of English
You seem to have a knack of leaping to the wrong conclusion based on faulty logic and your narrow perception of the situation. If it is OK with you, maybe we should explore some of the options you did not mention. Perhaps I will do that directly with the administrator so as not to upset people with my nit picking and ax grinding!

I vote we get to know who the next admin is. I agree, Rob. It would help end the speculation as to who they are and where they stand. If they are not administering with an even hand it will be clear to all. Perhaps Rob, you would be up for the job!

Actually, Rational..your post would have made a lot more sense if you had just mentioned all of these other options instead of alluding to them. I have admitted to being wrong plenty of times on this board, and I'm not opposed to doing so again...but why so mysterious? I'm sure Admin didn't have bad intent at the get go....but you surely are taking exception to the "tone" of my post. Well, I took exception to the tone of yours toward Admin. Oh well! I do expect we'll all get over it. M. And ps...go ahead and use sarcasm in your last line there above...but I have seen you "take up" with Admin over seemingly minor things (though this may not be to many people, I agree) in the past...thus, the ax grinding remark. I call things like I see them, just as most people do *without much hesitation* on this board. Many assumptions have been made about me here, for instance, which I know not to be true. Fine that you have "called me out" on my apparent false assumptions of you then as I have done with others...because you know better, right? That didn't seem to change the mind of those I challenged about my own personality either, though, so good luck... M. PS...as far as making promises I couldn't keep in my example above...if that were the case, no one would EVER make promises...and yet many do all the time...we can't forsee the future as I'm sure you know...so we CAN fully intend to do something and have things interfere to make us unable to do so. I can promise, for instance, that I will never leave a certain job (yes, I know it's a stupid example)..that I will retire from there and not go elswhere to work. If I lose a limb and I am unable to work there anymore, I don't see that as breaking a promise...I would see that as unable to keep the promise....which I see differently from breaking it. Oh forget it. I'm tired. g'night! M.

Actually, Rational..your post would have made a lot more sense if you had just mentioned all of these other options instead of alluding to them. That might indeed be the case. Truthfully? I didn't have the time to fully articulate some of the alternatives right now. Actually, I didn't notice any tone and just responded to the words. And I tried to just ask a simple question of if there was a transfer plan that would allow him to stand by his promise. He has said there is not a plan and I will be glad to help him in that way if I can. You might. I like to hold a grudge for as long as possible. Sometimes things on the surface seem to be minor but there are under lying things that make them less than minor. Do you think the addition of moderators helped the situation here? Did you ever see the movie Only the Lonely with John Candy and Ally Sheedy? Maureen O'Hara's character also called things as she saw them. By me? Well, I did try to explain. Looks like I might have failed! Are you grouping yourself with those in the Closed Mind Club (CMC)?

fwiw i don't think rational has an 'axe to grind'. he presents his side of the issue with clarity and levelheadness -spiced with a touch of sarcastic humor. i got a chuckle out of the suggestions for people that shushy is ready to vote. too bad we couldn't roll up all 5 of these people into 1 person. gem

Ok, Rational. Perhaps I overreacted. It happens with me. Even though you may feel free to hold your grudge, I'm sorry I questioned your motives and I'm over it. To answer your questions, yes, I do think the mods were a good addition. You did'nt, correct? I think they helped a lot when Admin couldn't be here and the board was getting spammed...but that's just me. I know many will say "was it really a big deal that couldn't wait until Admin could take care of it?" etc...well, to be honest...to me it was! It was more about keeping people in check than it was me having to read it or not. (I also get SO tired of the argument "you don't have to read it if you don't want to"...and I've probably even said it before...LOL! How do we know we don't want to read it until we read it! D'oh!!) Certain posters seem to think they can ruin the board by doing this that or the other...spamming being one. I found it quite pleasant to see that taken down a peg and everything being deleted about as fast as it could be posted. Again, that's just me. No. I never saw the movie you are referring to, so I miss the insinuation. However, I'm not lonely in any way, if that's what it was. I got your drift, however, I did say (or at least referred to) that most people on this board "call it like they see it," imo. I'm just one of many. You do it all the time. So...should I reference you back to your own insinuation now? I'm not sure if you have ever made an assumptions about me. Do you post under other names or as anonymous where you may have perhaps done so? Only you can answer that, not me. Thanks for answering as to why you were being so "mysterious." Yes, time is always an issue as most of us don't live here. No, I don't have a closed mind. Good point. Anyway, I truthfully saw this as black and white...either Admin stays or the information must be passed along to someone new. I truly didn't (and don't) see any other options. If you say there are some, I will look forward to reading them when you have time. I assume if you say there are some, there are....but I just can't see them right now. I am one of those that am not so concerned about whatever information might get passed along. For those who are, I hope Admin uses one of your ideas. M.

Is she groping herself? What in the world has that to do with the topic?
I'll take on the admin job. Since I get on here infrequently and post less, the party crashers would love it. Anyone who wants to see the tmb turn into a storehouse for CIA snooping, vote for the village idiot. We are watching you.
