Exactly what I thought to myself when I read this, no name. I know I met him and I think he was youngish??? Well, when I knew him anyway. Maybe about 20 years older now....but still young to have died? Thanks, nitro...a pic would be great. Might jog the memory. M.

I remember Troy fondly – Troy liked his coffee, and I remember during special meetings rounds one of the sister workers quietly advising my mom to make decaf as Troy was supposed to be cutting down on caffeine. My clearest memory that involves him is of hearing him speak at a meeting, and while sharing an anecdote he referred to a person central to the story as “that poor devil…”, a somewhat worldly colloquialism that made my mom giggle; she had her own struggles with worldly colloquialisms, and this unselfconscious slip of Troy’s (which probably went unnoticed by most people) endeared him to her all the more.

Sympathy to all Troy's friends and family, and to you particularly nitro!)

I recall have dinner with Troy after special mtg a few years ago. He was telling the time he went out fishing on a chartered boat with some other workers including sister workers. He was trying to reel in a big one when his pants fell straight down to his ankles. He said he couldn't let go of the pole for fear of losing the fish. He said he didn't know who was more embarrassed, he or the sister workers. We laughed so hard at the table we almost couldn't finish dinner. He was pretty down to earth.

Sent: Monday, April 21, 2008 3:12 PM Subject: Fw: Fw: Troy Craig service
> Troy Craig's Funeral Service (not verbatim) - April 12, 2008 > > 10:00 - Effie Convention Grounds > > Pallbearers: Don Smith, Kevin Nailleux, Marcus Bobb, Loren Quick, Warren > Taylor, Joel Reynolds, Eric White, Daniel Farris. > > Gilbert Reese - Read the obituary and prayed > > Congregation sang hymn 263: Thou Sweet, Beloved Will > > Robert Eberhardt: 2 Corn. 4:1 "Therefore, seeing we have this ministry, > as we have received mercy, we faint not; but have renounced the hidden > things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of > God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves > to every man's conscience in the sight of God." Paul holding forth the > New Testament ministry. This is a ministry of the spirit, not just of > the letter but of righteousness and of life. It is very glorious. We > appreciate what makes us all one today. It endears us to one another > because it brings life. Ex. 34:29-35 Paul was evidently thinking about > when Moses came up to Mount Zion and received the commandments. When he > came down, his face shone and Moses was not aware of it. This was the > glory of God, but the people saw it and were afraid, so he put a veil > over his face and then they couldn't see the glory. The glory of this > New Testament ministry is in the heart and not upon the face. 2 Corn. > 4:6 "For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath > shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of > God in the face of Jesus Christ." We understand that God called us not > to rules and regulations, but to life shown into our hearts. It abolishes > darkness and gives purpose and joy, and speaks to us and encourages us. > Paul spoke about this gospel that sometimes this life is hidden. This is > not because of God or His results but because of the blindness of > people's minds. The god of this world blinds the eyes, but the Spirit > dispels this darkness. We are thankful for the day Troy gave himself > for this ministry. We can't count the number of people who are thankful > for Troy . Troy was just an earthen vessel. The treasure, ministry, is > put into earthen vessels. When someone goes into the ministry, this > isn't changed, it is still only an earthen vessel, but it pours out > precious treasure. People don't worship the vessel but what is poured > out from the vessel. Neither is it man, the earthen vessel, who is the > object of worship, but God. The body fails and goes back to dust but God > is alive so the Ministry doesn't die - God hears the prayers and is able > to raise up younger ones. His ministry goes on. We have the privilege > to lay to rest the well worn body of a servant. Yet we have hope to be > raised up one day with Jesus. 2 Corn. 4:14 "Knowing that he which raised > up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us > with you." Hope not according to any feat of our own, but the God who > raises us up. We are glad to have a part in this ministry and we think > of all the good possibilities we can have in God. > > Congregation sang hymn 303: Close to Thee > > Leslie Olsen: We were just singing about the gate of life eternal. That > was my thought as we were coming down here when I didn't know what I > would say if I was asked to have a part in the service. Matt. 19:16 > Jesus was asked a question by a young man. Verse 16: 'And, behold, one > came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I > may have eternal life?' A good question for any of us to ask. Then > Jesus replied, 'Why callest me good? There is none good but one, that is > God: but if though wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.' Young > man asks, 'which?' We were hearing about the Old Testament ministry and > what it brought to the people. Jesus mentioned about half of those > commandments. Verse 20, young man said he had kept all these from his > youth up, what lack I yet? Jesus said to him again (Matt 19:21) 'If thou > wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and > thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come follow me.' He went away > sorrowful as he had great possessions. First Jesus mentioned to enter > into life, and then, if thou wouldst be perfect. Peter then spoke, > 'Behold we have forsaken all, and followed thee: what shall we have > therefore?' And Jesus said, 'Verily I say unto you that ye which have > followed me in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the > throne of his glory, ye also shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye > also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel > .' Quite a promise! Matt 19:29. Then Jesus said 'And everyone that > hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or > wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake shall receive an > hundredfold and shall inherit ever lasting life'. There are lots of > memories I have about Troy , having had 2 full years with him and > neighbors numerous times. Fifty eight years ago I first met Mr. Troy > Craig. But now we speak of better things. I noticed he was a few months > from making 80 years. Moses mentioned that God promised strength for > fourscore years. As a result of leaving all Troy received the promise of > everlasting life. He had met the afore mentioned conditions and was able > to come to the close of a fruitful life. He could have named a100 homes. > The word inherit is the important word here. We don't earn everlasting > life, but we inherit it. We may not be worthy of this inheritance but > through Jesus' sacrifice and our willingness we can inherit. Paul's last > words and testimony in 2 Timothy 4:6, 'I am ready to be offered, and the > time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have > finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up > for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge > shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also > that love his appearing'. These are words of victory. We are reminded > of the benefits that go with this ministry and I'd like to be able to say > Amen to these words one day. > > Gilbert Reese: You don't need to turn to a different chapter than what > we have been hearing from. I have also been looking at 2 Timothy 3. We > have just been hearing the words of a servant of God and today we are > laying away a servant of God. In this chapter (vs. 11), Paul was > remembering some experiences of Acts 13 & 14 which are before the time > that Timothy (Acts 16) responded. During this span of time, we read of a > servant of God being run out of a place and then stoned out of a place. > 'Fully known' Timothy would of known some of what he could face also > (persecutions) yet was still willing to go forth. In the letters to > Timothy, doctrine is spoken of ten times and three times; sound doctrine. > (It is also mentioned that the devil has a doctrine.) The emphasis is > upon the good doctrine. Sound doctrine - when something is sound it is > reliable, sure, safe, and (here) all eternity isn't going to erase this > sound doctrine. Neither man nor gods can say aught against it because it > comes from God. Jesus never claimed that what He spoke was of self, but > of His Father. Sound doctrine, speech, word - Paul speaking of it. > Manner of life and the scripture that the young man was asking of. Over > 59 years ago, Troy was willing for it and he went into this ministry. > All the promises have been and all eternity won't erase it. Men or > devils can't change or erase what he's done. Perhaps we don't think of > our future as often as we should, but all Troy did is sealed now. It is > safe in God's glory. I count it an honor to be with the kin when he drew > his last breath. In 1950 I stood beside a sister worker as she drew her > last breath. She was the first one that I had seen. She was in our home > part in 1920 or 21 and was instrumental in bringing the gospel to my > family. I, my companion, and two sister workers were with her when she > drew her last breath. It was so peaceful and quiet. Last Wednesday I > saw it again. Paul mentioned some about the mysteries. Death is a > mystery, and we see them breathe less and less - we didn't see him leave > 'He's gone' - didn't see him leave. Paul mentioned about purpose. Even > in suffering Paul kept same purpose; he kept going until he wasn't > allowed to go any more. Faith - demonstration of faith. 'You know my > faith'. The care given to Troy was almost beyond description - everyday > care. Troy asked the family to read Hebrews 11 and this happened more > than once. All human people that had done things that others hadn't done > before. What name is mentioned most in this chapter? God's name. God > stands behind His people. Greatest picture is the Son of God himself. > Jesus left what we are trying to attain to and He took upon himself what > we are trying to leave behind. Unselfishness of Jesus, leaves us a > perfect example. The Psalmist said, 'there is but one step between me > and death.' Looking into the face of one who has taken this step - Paul > said '.henceforth.laid up for me a crown of righteousness...not me > only...all them ...love His appearing.' (2 Timothy 4:8). That's a lot > of people. Troy covered a lot of states holding out this sound doctrine > - 12 states - and he left his tracks in this world and went on to better > things. We covet this life and testimony, and hope. > > Workers stood and sang - # 403 > Craig Cemetery > #412 - Congregational singing > Clarence Mounce prayed. > > Workers present: > > Gilbert Reese, Clarence Mounce, Eric White, Homer Bollinger, Leslie > Olsen, Robert Eberhardt, Joel Reynolds, Warren Taylor, Daniel Farris, Don > Smith, Loren Quick, Marcus Bobb, Kevin Nailleux. > > Louise Martin, Julie Harthorn, Connie Surratt, Marilyn Stafford, Esther > Schraw, Laura Andrews, Rebecca Carroll, Glenda Pickering, LaNell Malray, > Bernice Faber, Emmy Nelson.

Gem Central Louisiana and he could turn on the Cajun talk if you pressed him Thank you so much for the funeral notes. Means a lot to me.
