Julius Burton Godwin, 85, of Amarillo died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007.
Private burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors.
Julius Burton "J.B." Godwin was born June 7, 1922, to Thomas Carl and Velma Edwards Godwin in Raleigh, N.C. As a young child, he moved with his family to Vernon. He graduated from Vernon High School. He married Betty Joycelyn Sparks in 1943 in Portland, Ore. He served in the 13th Air Force during World War II from 1939 to 1945 in the islands from Guadacanal to the Philippines. He was a radio control operator both airborne and on ground. He received 13 battle stars during his career. After his discharge, he moved to Lubbock and later Tulia, where he owned Tulia Auto Parts. In 1970, he moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., where he owned Peak Auto Supply. He moved to Clarendon upon retirement.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James Arlen Godwin; and a grandson, Kenneth Edward Bryan.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Godwin; two brothers, Kenneth B. Godwin of Amarillo and Truman D. Godwin of Abernathy; a sister, Doris Koshers of East Meadow, N.Y.; a son, Carl L. Godwin of Amarillo; a daughter, Joycelyn Moore and husband Larry of Happy; two grandsons, Todd Bryan and wife Dawn of Happy and Dennis L. Bryan and wife Stephanie of Happy; and five great-grandchildren, Seth, Maci, Kole, Kenna and Karson Bryan.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to the CareNet Crisis Pregnancy Center, 1001 23rd St., Canyon, TX 79015; or a favorite charity.
The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home chapel.
