I was thinking what was ever taught by the workers as it relates to this verse in Isaiah. I mean with so much affirmation of this in the New testament I don't ever recall a teaching to support Jesus Deity as prophesied in Isaiah. Is there any who can tell me what is taught on this subject in The F&W.
Isaiah 9:6 (King James Version) King James Version (KJV)
Public Domain A Public Domain Bible KJV at Zondervan Zondervan
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Colossians 1:15-17
15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

I can tell you what I was taught. It means that Jesus IS God. I know lots say that we F&W are not taught that, but I've never heard anything else.

StudyLearning,
I never heard the verses from Isaiah spoken on.
I did hear the verses from Colossians spoken on. It was explained to me, by an overseer, that Jesus was eternal from the beginning, in heaven with the Father. However, he gave up his deity when he came to earth. The scriptural support for this position? John 1.....in the beginning WAS the Word, and the Word WAS God, and the Word WAS with God; ie WAS equates to past tense. Of course, Jesus resumed his eternal position in the Godhead upon resurrection.

I have heard most of that refered to often, excluding "Unto us a child is born.."
It seems the workers have a confusing understanding of God,Jesus,Holy Spirit-I have workers speak as if the understood the concept of Jesus the Creator and Jesus the Savior(many of the hymns in the 'old' book made clear references to Him and his true status, but they were removed from the '87 remake) I have heard older workers speak of the blood saving us and young ones say that His life(on earth, prior to death and ressurection) is what saves. Rather confusing,eh?

Rather confusing,eh? Yes it is confusing. That is why I started the thread. I hear many say that God the Son is commonly taught. I have never ever heard a worker teach this. There are so many different thing taught as to Who Jesus is. Like many others I would like to see a clear statement of doctrine taught so that there is consistency and all will know. The first step.

I remember Everett Swanson in particular stating that Jesus came down from heaven he made himself lower than the angels so that he could be our example. That is what I remember from when I was about 13 or so.

Yes I was taught that Jesus left His home in heaven to become an example for us. And, I was taught that He died for us, so that we could have communion with God in a personal way. Now, we are required to live sanctified lives if we hope to enter heaven after we die the physical death. Today I believe our sanctified living occurs AFTER we receive the Spirit of God within us, who produces the fruit.
I was also taught that Jesus ascended into heaven after his resurrection.
So, I had to consider....if Jesus is divine, but is NOT God...then I must believe in two Gods....the Father and Jesus, the Son. I found that difficult to reconcile with scripture that clearly says there is only ONE God and no other, until I accepted that God is spirit.
I am human in contrast. My father is human, and I am his offspring. We are both human. Jesus' Father is God (spirit), and Jesus is God (spirit). They are both God (spirit) and likewise the Holy Spirit is God (spirit).
Blessings, Linda
