As a child I read Aesop's fables over and over again. I have not read them in several years, but I am often struck by the similarity between some of them and things that Jesus taught.

I think the simalarities between the Judeo-Christian story of how evil came into the world (a person partaking of the tree of knowledge) and the Greek myth "Pandora's Box" (in which a person opens a forbidden box) is very interesting. I think both of them are examples of man's attempts at explaining the origins & existence of evil in the world.
I do not believe that either of these tales ever literally happened. These fables...along with many others...share a common theme. Each of them are as metaphorically valid as the others.

The one I remember the most often is (one of two similar) about "The dog in the Manger". It is similar to Matthew 23:13. inatent

Dog in The Manger...hmmm...eludes my memory. Please tell me the story. Sorry Jason, I missed your question. There are two versions of this story, but they are similar. The dog was guarding the entrance to the manger and would not admit the sheep. The sheep wanted the hay in the manger which the dog had no interest in. He could not enjoy it himself, but neither would he permit those who could to do so. The more I read on this board, the more I think of that story! inatent
