KIEV (Reuters) - A man shouting that God would keep him safe was mauled to death by a lioness in Kiev zoo after he crept into the animal's enclosure, a zoo official said on Monday.
"The man shouted 'God will save me, if he exists', lowered himself by a rope into the enclosure, took his shoes off and went up to the lions," the official said.
"A lioness went straight for him, knocked him down and severed his carotid artery."

First, I was struck by the man's stupidity. Secondly, I thought that even had he not been attacked, the skeptical response would be "Well, the lions just ate or maybe they're used to humans and didn't feel threatened by him."
Hence,
Commonsense - 0; Irrationality - 1.

Not to devalue human life, or God, (note the small "g" used in the above.

Rob and Karl, You're both completely missing the point. The man's faith obviously just wasn't strong enough...

I disagree with the score. The man didn't use the tools...ie a brain...that God provided. I think the score is tied.
The lion didn't eat him, he just accidently "broke" him.

Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written:
"'He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'"
Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'
Matthew 4:5-7

Karl ;;} I think it was one animal eating another animal. The lion had not been told that man considered himselfto be above the other animals. Somehow I don't think the lion would have cared. Nor did she take to heart the passage about "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth."

Another point of view.......why do you suggest that God did not "save" this man? Perhaps God did save him. He is in a safe place. We are hardly in a position to make that judgment are we? God-1, Lion-1 Yay!! A tie!! How wonderful is that!!!

Oooooh! Synergism. I like that. But I think it was two creatures, one of which was following it's genetic programming, the other acting irrationally.

Rob and Karl, You're both completely missing the point. The man's faith obviously just wasn't strong enough... God looks at motives. God also does not look at our death the way we do. Dieing is part of being part of his creation. It is the way he planned it. If it is okay with him, it is okay with me. His will is perfect.
