Hi Linda,
Forgive my ignorance, but what is an intercessor as you use it here, what role do they fulfill?
Thanks and [shadow=red,left,300]Regards BC[/shadow]

An intercessor is one that intercedes on behalf of others.

An intercessor is one that intercedes on behalf of others. I thought that was Christ's role, that we could approach God the Son (or the Son of God if you wish) directly. Are we resurrecting the idea of high priests?

Are we resurrecting the idea of high priests? An intercessor is one who prays for others, not in place of their prayers, but with them. It is not a formal role, but there are believers who have a leading and equipping from God to especially pray in this way. Karl

The pastors there were all born-again believers in Jesus Christ.

No, an intercessor is not in the role of a priest or as Christ, who is THE mediator between God and man.
Newtwork Ministry Resource by Bruce Bugbee and Don Cousins says:
"Intercessors feel compelled to earnestly pray on behalf of someone or some cause.
They have a daily awareness of the spiritual battles beings waged an pray.
They are convinced God moves in direct rsponse to prayer. They pray in response to the leading of the Spirit, whether they understand it or not."

Hi Linda, I believe we are all asked of Jesus to be intercessors on behalf of others around us, That there is no specific role as intercessor apart from Jesus. Just my thoughts on it though.

Sheesh....there is mind boggling stuff to learn when a person starts looking at the various denominations. No wonder so many who post here just stay home.
I agree BC....I didn't know there was a person appointed to be such. Can you tell us more about this? Happy

Any direct proof that their prayersa worked? Remember the thousands who prayed to reduce crime in cities?

I agree with what Karl said about this. Yes, BC, all believers are called to pray. I think it was Paul who said to pray without ceasing and to pray in all kinds of situations.
It's not at all complicated, Happy. Some people simply have an almost insatiable desire to pray They would spend all day praying if they could. Most believers want to pray and even love to pray, but most of them do not spend hours and hours at it. Today's "catch phrase" for the person who would rather pray than just about anything else, is "intercessor".
I don't really clasify myself as an "intercessor" by today's Christianese. However, I do intercede for others, just as I'm sure all believers do.
Blessings, Linda

Maybe God convinced them?
I could write a book with direct proof of many, many prayers God has answered.
Do tell us about the thousands who prayed to reduce crime in cities.
Blessings, Linda

Ok thanks for that Linda, I understand now. Yes I know of one person who preyed most of the day every day for months. Then suddenely stopped preying and carried on with normal life. When asked why she stopped she said "I don't know" so why did you start? "I don't know, I just felt I should"
