I found it quite amazing really. The video starts with the history of that particular church, then moves into some of its difficulties and how they were resolved. A HUGE undertaking...but truth is worth it all.
If anyone watches this, be sure to watch it all, so you get the whole story.
Blessings,
Linda
Here are some thoughts I wrote down when watching it...
I think everyone should see this film...
Call them former member gems if you like - HAHA!
Restored the gospel
Reduced Jesus to more of a messenger
The gospel wasn’t about Jesus, but rather about the message Jesus was preaching
Those who pressed regarding control and authority issues were excommunicated.
You don’t hear the truth from any other place.
If a church is wrong about the nature of God, then they are wrong about many many other things.
Jesus has to be God, because it would be wrong to worship him then.
A checklist mentality in following the law.
The checklist didn’t matter.
Our personal relationship with Christ is not mandated or dictated by our performance, how much we do or how often we do it.
His Grace covers it all, all our sins in the past and all our sins in the future.
If Grace is not completely unconditional, then none of us has any hope whatsoever.
The Gospel says all bets are off, trust me, I’ve redeemed you.
Grace is given unconditionally in spite of our sins.
This whole pile of legalism, because of this or that, making us the true church all collapsed in an instant.
Is your church a new covenant church?
The Holy Spirit is a person who desires to live in us.
When people come to church, they don’t need to believe with a burden of guilt. The gospel removes such burdens.
Taught that ‘we’ are the authentic and obedient true Christians and all other Christians are disobedient, making their churches false.
