If a media reporter interviewed F&Ws after a gospel meeting with the question:
What brings you to these meetings?
What would [or would have] your response be[en]?

Fear of "losing out"

When I was active in the f&w fellowship, I would have said that these meetings are conducted in the same way they were at the time of Christ, that the ministry has continued since then and has not changed. I would have said, "I am drawn to this particular group because it is the ONLY one who does it the right way, the way Jesus did it, making it the truth."
My answer would have been all about the "meetings", and how the method of them, compared to all the other churches, is the truth.
Today, if I were interviewed coming out of an evangelistic meeting that I attend now (could be sponsored by one denomination or corporately by several) , my answer would be quite different.
I would say, "Jesus is alive and it's such a joy to meet with others who worship Him. I am drawn to evangelistic meetings, because I LOVE to hear the story of how Jesus sets us free from the bondage of sin into His marvelous grace; how He sets us free from the work of our own labor into His own righteousness; how He loves and accepts us with a limitless and enduring love. He is the same yesterday, today and forever, because He is the truth."
Any reference to the group sponsoring the meetings would likely be mentioned ONLY if someone asked, and/or ONLY to rejoice that Jesus is LORD of all involved.
The emphasis would be on Jesus, not the ministry or the method.
Blessings, Linda

1 - To support the workers. 2 - There is always something fresh. 3 - There is sometimes something new.

"something fresh...something new" AT A 2 x 2 MEETING? ? Now there IS an oxymoron IF I ever heard one. The so-called "bread" is old and stale. IF you've been to one convention you've in essence been to them all. Check out the "gems" from years past that you have in your notes. You will find LOTS of repeats. I clearly see in Greg's message there IS no mention of going to meeting to worship God and study His Holy Word. You see that the WORKERS top the list of reasons. How pathetic (but true) is that?

If I were picketing the gospel meeting, I would say, "I'm here for obvious reasons."
I would never actually BE IN the meeting because I wouldn't want to subject myself to false teaching. I would be somewhere ELSE where I could worship God and study His Holy Word, as GuestS said.
I'm a sinner, Jessi

I would have said we have to be here because adherents who miss meetings lose their stature and are less highly regarded by the workers and top tier members.
Of course, if I was actually in it I would never dare be that honest, so would probably say that God worked on my heart to lead me to be there.

I would say I got tired of speaking in tongues, chanting, swooning, dummy healings, yelling preachers, people who dress as if going out for a stroll, witnessing fake sincerity, watching people fawn over evangelists or priests who selectively quote scripture, dishing out my money for something Jesus said must be given freely, hearing what this year's new doctrine is or news about the world and trying to swallow how Jesus saves us from the bondage of sin so we can still continue in it.

How many folks would regularly attend gospel meetings if the post-meeting-chit-chat was forbidden?
