It has to be the Victorian culture. In the middle 1990s, Dan Helenek was speaking in a convention at Yellow Springs OH about the need for little girls to wear dresses! Why? why can't they accept jeans as ladies' apparel? Why so archaic and unwilling to modernize! Sound like Old Order Ammish! Guys, get into the 21st century!

Hi6, Don't ya know that women are to be kept "bearfoot, pregnant and in the kitchen" and ready at a split second to welcome the workers into the home with open arms? Oh, yes, I almost forgot that the house is to be kept spotless even under the carpets. This training needs to happen starting at birth. Oh, yes, and don't let the world influenct them.

Back in the times of the Apostles those overbearing preachers were telling the women what to wear and how to do their hair. Those preachers were so out of touch with modern Roman-Grecian fashions! The ones who thought they were smart got right away from all that.

The only ones we hear complaining about this "problem" are those that left.
If they left why do they still complain?
I'll tell you: Its because they are hell bent on destroying the fellowship and those who stay in it. Their whole objective is to destroy the 2x2s and get all current adherents out of it.

Hate to burst your bubble but not all who left are hell bent on destroying anything.. at least I am not... I have a family member who is starting to question things and I told this family member that they are the only ones who can search their soul to see what is best for them... and whatever choice they make.. to either stay in meetings or leave is up to them.... I don't care what others wear... that is up to them.... Have a great day....

Prue, your comment about disciples and dress code is so absurd that it isn't even worth commenting. Prue, maybe you should research dress codes of New testament era and force this upon the friends. Why is the early 20th century dress code so sacred?
Specific clothing for specific occasions. Nothing more and nothing less. In Hawaii, I doubt dress is much of an issue. Warm climate and open minded people. But in the rural Midwest, WHEW! Legacy of old Nichol Jardine.

hi6 It is not the actual dress code - it is the symbol of moderation that is the issue, and what you are identifying with. What is your take on Paul's many admonitions about appearance?

The poster asks why "workers are hung up on clothing".
The question implies that all or most are, but in fact its a tiny minority.
This is like asking "Why are people redheads?"

a thought came to me after reading some of this----would the 2x2's accept Jesus as he hung with prostitutes and tax collectors and thieves----i wonder if they would even recognize Him! The Bible says that God looks at the heart---what are our hearts "dressed" like should be the main concern. Do our hearts wear compassion and love and grace? Just some thoughts .

"i wonder if they would even recognize Him!"
You seem to be implying that they would not recognise Jesus.
And yet Jesus is the centre of their efforts.
Its easy to call 2x2s non-Christian isn't it?

not just the 2x2's but many religious organizations that perhaps wouldn't recognize Him

When will you guys admit that religion is all about power.
People (workers,priests,pastors,mullahs etc.,) holding power over others. Telling them what to do, wear, say etc;
Who said he "was a prisoner of the Lord."
Thats what makes a mockery of the words, "the truth will set you free."

I don't get why pants are a no-no, but nothing is said about cleavage and thong underwear and tight, tight clothes. Now that is immodest!
