Denny Kinnan once advised a young friend to not join his local fire department....said the environment in the firehouse was not edifying for a child of God. Now the guy's all grown up and fire chief.

"I don't take Edgar's "passion" as being against a people, rather a system that can tend to be hypocritical. "
I take it against the people of the 2x2s. I pity them, but hes sure on a war ahgainst them.

The Friends look to the workers for guidance on many aspects of their lives, including the choice of one's occupation. Workers have particularly keen insights into these matters, and they can be very helpful in steering their flock clear of worldly dangers!!!

One year at convention, Tharold Sylvester spent an entire meeting on the "livelihoods" of "God's People". He recommended that the "friends" should have lowly jobs... and the one that he seemed particularly stuck on .... was being a Janitor!!!
I'm not saying that isn't a decent job.... if one is so inclined. But, to recommend all males in the "truth" to become one, seemed a bit ignorant. I wonder if the old brother workers even considered that some of the things they spoke on as "gospel", that most of the "friends" just let go in one ear and out the other? Even to a "hearty professing" person, this just sounded so stupid!!

Easier to go the other way: what is acceptable. The work. Health field. Farming or ranching. Alsmost anything and everything else can be suspect. Even farming can be suspect if the need should arise to work on the fields on Sunday. (although it is OK for cattle farmers to do what needs to be done) The Sunday stop on working in the fields makes "Jesus only is our message" a rather dishonest hymn for 2x2ers to sing!! Edgar, this is so far from what happens in this country, mind you with 30% of the F&W being farmers is supose it stands to reason. [shadow=red,left,300]Regards BC[/shadow]

It is especially appreciated if the earnings from your occupation can enable you to purchase a large home and provide extra vehicles for the use of the ministry.
