I don't think TV is looked down at as much as it used to be.
We have had TV for years and we have a huge DVD collection.
My husband has several science fiction television shows on DVD and a couple of years ago, the young brother worker in our part started borrowing them to watch on his laptop. I don't know if his companion knew or not.
I know this is a regional thing but I'm here to say that in some regions TV is no different than anything else you waste time on.

I heard the late Dr. Adrian Rogers say that TV is like inviting people that you wouldn't dare associate with into your home (paraphrased). And I agree with him, although I enjoy a bit of telly once in a while. That being said, I also realize that what I watch is often not beneficial spiritually. I also am VERY aware that TV is full of immorality. Even the shows that I like have elements of that in them. Paul instructed us to "Abstain from all appearance of evil." (1Th 5:22) Even if you are only watching the news or weather, the occasional commercial comes on that shows scantily clad women seducing men, etc. Don't get me wrong--I am not judging anyone for watching, because I too, am a partaker. Just be careful.

Somehow if you are in an area of Eastern North America under the rule of Charles Steffen, Taylor Wood, or Barry Barkley, the TV is seen as an idol. More than just a time waster. It is seen as something that shouldn't be in a professing home UNLESS the home is a divided home.
