This is kind of an off-shoot of my post from the "saying grace" thread: I mentioned a family who forced their going-into-the-work son to say grace at every meal and lead all the Bible studies and basically take on the role of being a worker within the study. These folks studied the Wednesday night study all week. Every day they read the study over aloud amongst themselves; one person would read five verses, the next five, and so on, and they did this every day all week - I stayed there, and eventhough I was professing at the time I felt really awkward because not only were we all required to read but we also had to have something to say. I felt bad for their son because he was shy, and I guess maybe they thought making him preach to the rest of us would get him ready for being a worker. To me, such excessive, repetitive studying of the same chapter like that is a little kooky, and the whole forcing the son to preach is a whole other matter. What do you guys think?

Some of the professing people really are quacks. A professing girlfriend of mine dated a professing guy whose parents were real nuts, especially the dad. Once on a motorhome trip the dad got all the kids up in the middle of the night and made them pray out loud one at a time. He also made them have a little meeting in the ditch on the side of the road one afternoon. Cra-zy!

Of course we know there aren't any quacks OUTSIDE the fellowship, now don't we?

Yes, this type of study seems not only a bit redundant but rather extreme as well.
But in all fairness to these parents (and the father who stopped the motorhome to have a meeting by the side of the road), they were simply doing the very best they knew how. Obviously, these parents felt daily repetitive (!) bible studies were important for their children to be involved in. (Seems my mom would be all fired up after convention to have early morning bible studies with us kids but they'd always fizzle out after a few days. It must have been hard with an audience of teens who'd much rather have been sleeping! My dad didn't profess....)
My 2 kids are now in their early 20's and 'on their own'. Looking back, there are many things I wish I would have done differently but I was doing the best I knew how to do at that time.
That's all we can do.

Of course we know there aren't any quacks OUTSIDE the fellowship, now don't we? There are crazy people everywhere and being a part of the F&W has nothing to do with it. Some of the threads that are started here amaze me with the stupidity of the ones that start them. It is all about stir, stir, stir and I also think that some that are stiring go to meetings too.
