For those of you who live or have lived in the Northwest, I'd like to tell you about a very special couple who will be celebrating their 70th (yes that's right - 70th!) wedding anniversary this week.
Many of you who are/were in the Truth may have known Dan & Lilian Bafus. These are my in-laws, and they are a great example of commitment to marriage.
If anyone who knows them would like to send greetings, e-mail me at bevbafus@verizon.net and I will send you an address to do so.
However, I would like to tell this list about a slight problem.
When the family tried to have a small (very small) reception for them, Dan threw a fit, and said ABOdollELY NOT.
He said that "the workers don't want people to have parties, because in the Bible, when people had parties, people always died."
Now, I don't know if he is just remembering an ancient quote from yesteryear, and imperfectly at that, or quoting a worker from today.
Thoughts?
Thanks - Bev

OK, I'm new to this forum, and I didn't disable smileys or something... the quote from Dan should be "Absolutely not!"

very *friendly* person was substituted for a word that may have been a "naughty" one.
I'm guessing you misspelled it and wrote abS__UTely... with an L where that space is.
Secondly, this is ridiculous, as people celebrated weddings (with wine, no less) in the bible, homecomings, etc.
Just think, when the prodigal son came home, they killed a calf and had a huge feast... which is another word for party.
Where I'm from, people have "parties" all the time!

"Merriment and celebration man doth enjoy, yet the goffer lies content in its burrow !"
Gene Nelson (c.1998)
Makes you think, doesn't it ?
