Correction!!
That was supposed to be Redbud Canyon, located in Guthrie, OK.
Some of the older Brothers and Sisters reside there.
Recent residents:
Helen Bellamy, James Walden, Ellen Welch, Alma Cherry, Letha Mae Greenlee, Opal Martin, Glenna Mae Terry, Berlin Raymond.
If your travels take you in that vicinity, you know they would like a visit to pass the time......

Is it only for retired workers or can retired elders or friends get a place? Just wondered whether or not it was exclusive? Ted Rozemer caused quite a stir a the Sydney Convention in the 1ate 1990's when he was a visiting worker. I can't remember exactly where he worked in South America but he told us at Convention that: - he didn't want us to visit there as he was trying to protect his "green patch" - didn't want bad influences - not to send photos, particularly wedding photos as our weddings were too worldly - that he would be selective on who he gave contacts to as he didn't want anyone writing to the friends there. As you would expect, this caused quite a bit of negative feedback which was passed onto local workers who approached Clyde Mackay, Head worker of NSW. Reportedly Clyde M told Ted to "tone it down" (my words...). Ted did tone it down when he spoke the next time. The sad part about it is that no-one would be able to remember anything else that Ted R said or anything from that convention because we were all classified as worldly. Ted apparently had magical qualities that could see into our hearts without having ever met 99.9% of us. That's interesting. Isn't that what CD said a worker from VN said at convention when he was here in Canada last. If you're coming to VN dress appropriately because we don't want any bad influences in my little corner of the world, to paraphrase.

I know one of the ladies - she was not a worker AFAIK - wife, mother, grandmother, although her brother is pictured also (Leslie Olsen, worker) - and she had a sister who was a worker (Corinne Olsen). It was nice to see Doyle Copeland in that photo too.

Actually there have been an occasional friend at Redbud Canyon....presently I don't think there is any....though there may be a friend or two that works there and helps any of the residents with personal care, etc I know when one or two of the retired workers got to where they really couldn't d much for themselves that one of the friends would move in there to help these poor souls. You may have noticed IH's oldest sister Ruth Hobbs is there....bless her heart she lost an eye and she hasn't seemed to get used to it and makes her life miserable! Of couse she's way up in her 80's I believe if she isn't in her 90's I've lost track of her birthdays. There are 5 brothers and 8 sisters presently there. I think the brothers are all physically able to get themselves out of bed and dressed, though I'm not certain about Leslie Olson's mind...he has been failing for a number of years.....

I think the brothers are all physically able to get themselves out of bed and dressed, though I'm not certain about Leslie Olson's mind...he has been failing for a number of years..... It is great that the workers have a place like this to go to and the people who are doing it are obviously kind folk... Growing up we were constantly told that workers never retire...unlike other ministers...well I guess it just proves that they are like other ministers after all A mixture of things happen over here with older workers - a couple are in their 90's and still preaching (eg Amy Patterson), others live with family or friends whilst others are in aged care homes, mostly run by other churches. I doubt that an aged care facility would be built in Australia for the workers - there would be plenty able to do it - but to get government funding etc you would need to make it available to a mixture of people and the workers would need to get the Age Pension - 85% of which would go to the home. I guess you could do it without government support but it would be an extraordinarily costly exercise. I should clarify here, Ross! The workers do go to Redbud when they are not able to keep up with their companions or the needs to travel all day, every day. Now Charles Lauchner has assisted field workers when their companions were out on conv. or spec. mtg. rounds. FAct is, Charles has also gone on Oklahoma's spec. mtg. rounds and I'm not sure if he's still able for that. Leslie Olson used to do the same but I think Leslie's mind is pretty frail! Also what I meant to clarify is this, by state law, Redbud owners have to remove their residents when they become completely invalid or apt to wander off....when my sister had her in-home nursing home she was able to care for 5 patients at a time....I was her RN Consultant for a bit while living closeby...Redbud residents that were not able to do anything for themselves OR that were so sick and apt to die soon...we received those from Redbud. Since my sis had to close her home bound nursing facility, I think there is another such retirement village in Texas and many workers go there. Yes, many workers in the past stayed on their feet going and in fact when the workers still had batches and didn't travel many miles every day from friend's house to friend's house in a different city, county or state...those elderly workers that were still able to be on their own feet and help themselves stayed with their companions and did not get to retire until they were so past physical abilities then often went into friends' homes and/or nursing homes. We had one such brother worker in Oklahoma, he lived with a nice couple in Tulsa, OK...he often had a younger companion who stayed in the Tulsa area just so they could have some gospel mtgs. which Tulsa OK is a very large city in Oklahoma. But anyway Robert McCorkle lived with the Maynards for many years like this. I think the owners of Redbud make sure that each of their resident ARE enrolled with Oklahoma Medicaid so that their little salaries help pay the expenses at Redbud and/or when the residents have to go to longterm care! The Spenolgle's are the friends that own Redbud as well as the Haiti conv. grounds.

It was nice to see Doyle Copeland in that photo too. Back in the early 2000's poor Doyle's hearing was so bad, he wanted to go to Redbud then, but Ron Thomke and George Peterson thought that Doyle had much to offer yet as his body was still pretty good, so they agreed to keep him busy for a time yet. He, of course, is still as deaf as he ever was, bless his heart. He was always appreciated for his sermons even though his hearing was off. I think a problem for him was he wasn't able to get spiritual food due to his hearing loss nad it took a lot out of him to continue having spiritual food. I'm glad they let him retire! Which sister of Leslie Olsen are you talking about? The 2 sisters that I know about were cared for by their families.....and Corrinne's niece who is a worker took time off to care for Corrinne after having taken off to take care of her own mother, who lived at the Independence, KS conv. grounds!

Yes , I'm sure he is! He was the oldest of all the siblings if I'm not forgetting another one perhaps who was older. I guess Corrinne must have been in her 90's when she passed on. I grew up with the children of Leslie's siblings. Deanna Amerine being a few years older then me, Wanda Churchill was my age and a very good friend, Loretta Olsen was a bit older then Deanna and my own sister...but we were all conv. buddies.....
