Shelley Bates writes romance novels. The main characters always have a background with a toxic, legalistic church or cult.
I've enjoyed reading her books, and it's easy to see how familiar she is with the feelings and thoughts that go along with being raised in a "works" based group. She's an excellent writer and many times I saw an eerie parallel to my own childhood.
The best part (in my mind) is how she leads her characters out of that bondage and into knowing the reality of God's true Grace!!!

Yes, Shelley WAS a 2 x 2 so even tho she writes them as novels the cult that she depicts in her trilogy is from personal knowledge. For those not familiar with the titles they are: "Grounds to Believe", "Pocketful of Pearls", and "A Sounding Brass." They are excellent reading! You can visit her website at shelleybates.com/or order from Amazon.

Thanks, GuestS and bluejay ... glad you liked the books. In answer to one of the questions, these aren't "ex 2x2" books per se. The situations can reflect behaviors in any legalistic group. I made mine up, but many of the heroines' experiences are mine and those of my friends. And no, I've never been abused by anyone. The heroine in Pocketful of Pearls was based on two true stories of women I know, however. Shelley B. www.shelleybates.comshelleybates.blogspot.com

Hi Shel
I have read the trilogy and loved them. Anyone reading them that has a 2x2 history will find something to connect with.
May you go far in your writing career and deeper in faith. It's a joy to watch you grow!
