Can anyone tell me why this convention isn't listed on the 2003 conv list? Has it been discontinued? Is it called by another name now?
1909: FIRST DEBENHAM, ENGLAND CONVENTION in NE Suffolk: "This is the oldest convention in the world (since 1909) and the gospel first came to this village of Debenham in 1904." (Letter by Sydney Holt, May 22, 1985)

Debenham is in the county of Suffolk so perhaps: "May 17-20 Suffolk, England."
[others are 'missing' too - what I would know as "Gortaloughan" is listed as "21-24 Fermanagh Ireland"]

UK&I conventions are known by various names, depending on who you talk to. The system of town, counties (which have been renamed and boundaries changed several times in recent decades) and general areas means a variety of names. Then there's the confusion of Scottish conventions that take place geographically in England.
many conventions have been discontinued and others started. Adds to the confusion.

Debenham convention definitely continues to be held in the county of Suffolk, about 80 miles out of central London towards the east coast of England. Mainly attended by local folks and offers accommodation on the grounds. I understand the site was relocated about 40 or 50 years ago within the village but there is a very long history of convention in that village. There was a time in 2001 when no conventions were held in the UK and this was due to foot and mouth disease contagion in cattle and the workers decided against the mass gatherings due to the number of country folks who might be meeting on a convention ground. According to the published statistics Debenham would be celebrating its centenary either next year or the year after but this is unlikely to receive more than a passing mention that's if anyone remembers
