CherieKropp, on another site, reports that "Rumor is that Barry Barkley is calling this “The Uprising of the Women.”" (Barry Barkley is the previous overseer of Eastern Canada and the US, for anyone who may not know.) I think he might want to get really quiet about now. (Or if he is starting lose faculties/filters, someone else may want to reign him in.) If this is true, in effect, he is saying that women are getting out of their place by standing up for themselves and for their children. Women are "getting out of their place" by saying, "No more, you are not going to use us or our children for your own personal gratification anymore. We are not going to be silent. We are not going to permit it." Oh my. (Could you tell on yourself any more, even if you were trying to tell on yourself?) Now, I don't see any of this as a male/female issue at all. Particularly when so many of the abused are little boys. Particularly when much of the righteous anger belongs to men who are fathers. No, it is the "Uprising of Common Decency" among decent people everywhere, believers and non-believers. And the custodians of God's-one-true-way-on-this-earth do not see it at all.

Barry was in our field for a number of years when I was growing up. I liked him very much; he was soft spoken, smart, articulate, and able to deliver strong, thoughtful sermons. I thought of him as being a very decent person. Although my esteem of him has dropped sharply this past year, I think there is a chance he is having a change of heart and taking seriously the fact that women have stepped up bravely, and righteously in the face of so many male leaders getting it wrong. If not, I will lose any remaining shreds of respect for him. Sadly, it feels like a long shot.

NOTE that what Barry was referring to (the "this") was not spelled out... It could also be that women are rising up against and discarding the dress codes, and perhaps that they are verbally speaking out against patriarchy (not submitting to the powers that be and their rules).

It could also be that women are rising up against and discarding the dress codes, and perhaps that they are verbally speaking out against patriarchy (not submitting to the powers that be and their rules). I'm sorry, I should have refrained from expressing my (opinionated) opinion over "this" when I could not possibly have known what "this" was. 1) Has there been a particular rising up against and discarding the dress codes this past year, independent of people leaving? 2) In a practical sense, "verbally speaking out against patriarchy" has no meaning to me in a 2X2 world. What I have been aware of this past year: 1) There has been dawning/escalating awareness of the amount of pedophilia and other sexual misconduct within 2X2ism, and how many perpetrators have simply been shifted from area to new area over a very long period of time. As a result, large numbers of current members have either left or have spoken out against the mishandling of these issues. 2) For the first time, there has been an organized effort by a few very courageous women under the banner of Advocates for the Truth to encourage survivors to come forward and to advocate for proper handling of the above mentioned misconduct. This would be where my money is, but what do I know?

Are people realising that the kingdom of God is in the heart, and not a religious organisation as they were taught?
Barry will have lost some of his power over the last year due to his appalling handling of CSA.
Pitting men against women could be an attempt to bring the situation under control.
I agree with Sharon:
A question that comes to mind is: could the women run things any worse than the men have?

I can think of one or two sister workers in our country who certainly would not have been any better. They were gloved fists!
Barry Barkey is exhibiting a common trait of leaving these open to interpretation. I would rather that the words be straight up, and you can then acknowledge that they're wrong, or right, but at least you know what what was said. I call this "friendly speak". A bit like saying a women was seen at the airport, and you tell she had the spirit. The implication is that the hair was up, no jewellery and she was wearing a skirt. Are the workers too scared to say what they actually mean? Why?
I heard Barry Barkley once, and thought he preached an OK sermon. Maybe he's getting past it?

You hit the nail on the head with "friend speak". Of course, when you think of all the silly questions they're asked by people just wanting to kiss up to them, it's saves them the bother of paying any attention. I remember Barry Barkley when he was a just a new worker. He was quite a pleasant fellow them.

It should also be noted that what has been said is 'RUMOUR is that Barry Barkley....' We have likely all had rumours said about us that are not fact. Caution is needed with a thread that stems from a rumour - discussed long enough, and people will begin to substitute 'rumour' for 'fact'.

Yep, all rumors!!!!
Leslie white, ira Hobbs, Dean bruer, on and on and on.......
I was told very early on that the women wrongly accused leslie white and it was all lies!!!!!!
What barry Barkley did was silly at best and extremely harmful to preach at the concerned women of new Hampshire the way that he did!!!
Rumors indeed!!!!
